My Review:
 Imagine the year 2088, what would the world we live in be like? And how would Christianity survive it, if at all? Jill takes our minds and imaginations into what she thinks it will be like with her latest novel Captives from The Safe Lands Series. The main character in the book; Levi, is 18 years old and finds the village he lives in destroyed. At the same time there is a plague going on that involves people that have this dreadful disease to have very thin skin that you can literally see through.Yuck!

 This book is packed to the gills with action and intrigue. It is a real page turner. For me and my daughter because we both read it, you just want to keep reading to see what is going to happen next. Levi has taken it upon himself to save whoever is left. I'm sure the fact is that Jem, his lady love is the driving force as to him facing the Enforcers to try and save as many as he can. Omar was trying to protect him by sending him away but now he may be in even more trouble. Tune in to see what happens next. I'm sure it will be a doozy.

About the Author:
 Jeremiah Burroughs (1599 1646) was a member of the Westminster Assembly and a prominent preacher among Congregationalists. Several of his works have been reprinted by Soli Deo Gloria Publications.

My Review:
 This book is an awesome way to learn and realize the need for fullness of contentment,what that means and how to discover it and add it to your life. Jeremiah Burroughs was a very predominant enforcer,if you will, of this type of doctrine. But I feel he was ahead of his time. Because we definitely could use some schooling today on this subject. The economy is in such turmoil people don't look to the Lord like they should and instead fret and worry about the state of the country and by doing so lose what little contentment they had.

 We have to look heavenward to discover this "contentment". This is probably something we need to stop trying to create ourselves and ask God to grant it to us. Because if we don't is it really true contentment? Mr. Burroughs chose to rely alot on the Apostle Paul for the lesson in contentment. And rightfully so, of all the people I can think he had the most reason not to be happy and content.

 This book is a reprint of some of Jeremiah Burroughs writings. Reproduced and edited for for us to understand more clearly. The Table of Contents are listed below to give you a feel of what the book contains and how it can help you to become more content in your current circumstance. This book causes you to look inside yourself and really take note on what it means to be full and the lackness thereof. How to go about becoming content and therefore prosper from it. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read more from the series.

My Review:

CWA Review:Kerri's Kreations..a special kind of jewelry




 My CWA review this time centers around jewelry. How exciting, right? We girls LOVE our jewelry! So let me tell you a little about Kerri's Kreations....

Kerri’s Kreations started out as one woman with a neuromuscular disease called Myasthenia Gravis (MG), using her talents to bring attention and funds to a cause.  It quickly became so much more!

My Review:
 This book gets down to the nuts&bolts of a pastor wife. Women that successfully stand by their husband not only through thick&thin. But also through the sometimes begrudging task of being the lady behind the scenes. The author has chosen to show you the lives of three different women and how they came to be part of their husbands ministry in the first place. Right on up to where they are today whether its a look into their lives or into how they relate to others in the ministry or how well they coexist.

 These three ladies are all involved on some level in the same church. Whether it is the refined Candice that is the doer, the one that can make it happen. Or the all put together Ruthie that is willing to let her husband do what he needs to do to conquer the Lord's calling. Or the misunderstood and terribly lonely Ginger that aches to be with her somewhat unreachable husband.

 I'm just beginning my journey as my husband is still in seminary. But I believe on some level I'm a mixture of all three ladies. The characters are all likeable women but they do have many unlikeable traits too. I have read many books about pastors wives and this is definitely a different take on the position.

My Review:
 Merrill was the perfect reminder of my daughter. The girl that plays in mud and dirt, a tom boy of sorts. Merrill loves taking care of horses and is really good at it. We see that in the beginning of the book when she is sitting in the barn with her horse as she waits for her give birth. Her friend is advising her to try and be more of a lady so that she will attract a suitor or two. But Merrill wants to find someone to call her own but feels with the way everything is going on the ranch that it is better if that subject stays buried for awhile.

 While visiting with her company the horse tries to birth the foal on her own without success. Merrill comes rushing into the barn after her brother comes into the house to get her to come and help. The brother manages to see his sister in action. This part was a wonderful part to read, I really enjoyed it. The great thing about Tracie Peterson's writing is that is so real and lifelike that you can imagine being right there. She is very descriptive and that is why I enjoy her books so much.

My Review:
This book is very unique. It is not every day you see a fiction book broke up and then brought together again by generations. There are three different women that the book talks about that are involved in three different type situations that all lead to paramount decisions that have to be made.

Becky is a grandmother trying to help her teenage daughter that has become an unwed mother to Jackson.

Ivy is expecting a baby but her boyfriend is off to war in Korea and doesn't know yet about the baby.

Anna is a woman who began a home for unwed mothers back in the late 1800's.

Reading the book you suddenly realize how the lives of each of these women intertwine. It is a book that will force you to see the hope given to each one in the middle of their trials. I enjoyed the book and I loved the way the author opened up three different lives to the readers and was able to bring it all together again.

My Review:
 As women we try to find other women to look up to and hopefully in some way will be a mentor of sorts to us and our situation. Well in the book Working Women of the Bible, the author Susan Dimickele has researched it and found several women that would do that and much more. These are just any women out of the Bible. They are the women of the Bible that held spiritual or political influence or worked outside of the home. It won't be a study of all women from the Bible just 13 of the most influential.

 Beginning with Eve, the author points out that besides Eve being the one that sinned first she also had many other firsts that tend to get swept under the rug. She was the first wife, the first mother, and the first grandmother. The author also states that we know two things about Eve's work; it is good and she is equal partners with Adam. Alot of times people tend to think that Adam was suppose to be superior over Eve. But in Genesis 1:28, it states that God gave the command of being fruitful and to multiply and to have dominion over the earth to both of them not just Adam. The author feels like the command to work was given to both of them as equals.

Each chapter ends with discussion questions and notes. The book ends with a study on Jesus. This book would make the perfect Bible study for a group but it can also be used for an individual one as well.

My Review:
 We all are constantly looking to God for the answers to all of life's little problems, as we should be. And sometimes those answers are hard to see, hear, or even understand. Jake Wilkerson arrives at his latest assignment expecting answers from the Lord on something he is concerned with. Each day he gets out of bed thinking today is a good day for answer from God.

 Then something unexpected happens. Little does he know but God has been listening and has decided to move. God has spoken to Petey and asked him to do a very important job for Him. He needs Petey to find Jake, a very lonely man that needs a friend and be of some comfort to him. Only one problem with this request Petey is a cat.

Sometimes we have prayers that we feel God doesn't hear when all along He is working behind the scenes to make it all come together.

My Review:
 Did you ever wonder what it was like from the whale's point of view? Well wonder no more. Troy Schmidt tries to explain in his latest book Hey God, I've Got Some Guy Named Jonah In My Stomach and I Think I'm Going to Throw Up! The author has found a very creative and imaginative way to explain the classic Bible story about Jonah&the Whale.

 Jonah wasn't the only one that was told by God that he had a job to do. That whale also was asked to do something very important that day. It was to teach Jonah a lesson but it was an important one none the less. We all know how the story with Jonah ended and well the whale soon relized that from then on he was going to do exactly what the Lord asked of him too.

 This was a very enjoyable book. My children actually loved hearing what the whale thought of the whole experience so much so that they would like to read the authors other books that are written along the same lines. The author has made it easy for little ones to understand our salvation and all that it entails. Each subject gives an explanation or question and then a prayer for the child to pray.

First of all I love the format of the book. It is a catechism type book that teaches with stories. My children are able to retain more more from the Bible and the lessons it is trying to teach them if it is told in a story type format. The illustrations are colorful and very well done. The stories are a good mix for boys and girls. Also at the end of each chapter are discussion questions, memorization facts, followed by prayer.

 If you are a homeschooling family like we are this is the perfect book to add to your Bible curriculum. It can also be used in a young children's Sunday School class or as a Bible study for young children. My children enjoyed it and I'm sure yours will too.

My Review:
Donna Fletcher Crow has put together another masterpiece in her third installment of The Monastery Murders entitled An Unholy Communion. In this installment we are quietly listening as Felicity wakes up from a nightmare of someone falling to possibly their death. All the while she is screaming for them to stop. She oversleeps on Ascension morning much to her dismay because she enjoys the worship time so much. But the nightmare clung to her like a thick fog clings to the night sky. 

 Then as if she was reliving it all over again. As she was listening to the singing and worshiping she seen someone fall down the hill. As they lay at her feet, she notices a piece of folded paper in the persons hand. While the victim; Hwyl Pendry, a former student seems to have no real cause as to why he fell. The police label the death as a suicide but the victims widow is convinced he was murdered but need the help of Felicity and her fiance, Father Antony to help figure this mystery out. Things seem to get even stranger as you get deeper into this one, for sure.

Gabby Mom Review:Healing Hearts with Helping Hands by:Lorrie Flem






 



 This month's Gabby Mom review is all about helping those around us especially those that are grief stricken. I know from experience as well do the power grief has over a body when we lose someone very close to us. Thinking about continuing on with everyday activities seem to elude us during that time. Well Lorrie has always been one that was accused of being able to say the right thing at the right time and has really opened up to us all on this one.

 Alot of times the ones watching things like this unfold are at a loss on what to say or what to do. But Lorrie combs through it all and shows us with a little sympathy to the heart we can help those around us when they are having these trying times. Maybe just to sit a listen to them, to cry with them. Maybe a card or a series of cooked meals delivered to their door. She also gives you many things you should not say which was really comforting. I know during my miscarriage many family members said some pretty upsetting things to me that I still have not forgotten. So please know your words carry alot of weight with them.

Irena Sendler, born to a Polish Catholic family, was raised to respect people of all backgrounds and to help those in need. She became a social worker; and after the German army occupied Poland during World War II, Irena knew she had to help the sick and starving Jews who were imprisoned in the Warsaw Ghetto. She began by smuggling food, clothing, and medicine into the ghetto, then turned to smuggling children out of the ghetto. Using false papers and creative means of escape, and at great personal risk, Irena helped rescue Jewish children and hide them in safe surroundings. Hoping to reunite the children with their families after the war, Irena kept secret lists of the children’s identities.

My Review:
 Irena born to a Polish Catholic family was also born to a very compassionate one. Her father on his death bed instilled an even greater sense of helpfulness in Irena as he explained to her that you help people who are drowning even if you don't know how to swim. It was a beautiful, heartfelt sentiment that Irena identified with as she grew up to be a very smart, young woman. In this book, she talks her way into a concentration camp during the Holocaust trying her best to help everyone she could.

 She later joins up with another organization to help more families in need and she leads the children's division. This way she gives the parents a safe place to house their children until they can be reunited again. This book describes the ways Irena was able to still identify the children with their families. This book is a very touching one. I believe the main character shows alot of bravery that I'm sure many children could learn alot from.

Review:A+ Attitude by:Stephanie Perry Moore

The Morgan Love Series is a chapter book series written for girls, 7 - 9 years old.  The series provides moral lessons that will aid in character development.  It will also help young girls develop their vocabulary, English and math skills as they read through the stories and complete the entertaining and educational exercises provided at the end of each chapter and in the back of the book.
Morgan is sad and mad at the world because things are not going the way she wants them to go.  Why does my daddy have to leave again to save the country?  Why do I have to go live with mommy and her new husband? Why does my mommy have to have a new baby? Why do I have to go to a new school?  Why do I have to make new friends?   Why? Why? Why?
If Morgan got a grade for her attitude and her actions it would be an F. But after her mommy gets really sick and Morgan thinks her mommy is going to die she starts to feel bad about her attitude and realizes how mean she's been to almost everybody. Though she is having a hard time adjusting to all the new things in her life, especially her new baby brother and step dad, Derek, Morgan makes up her mind that no matter what is going on, she is going to have an A+ attitude.

My Review:
 Morgan Noelle Love is just like any other second grade girl except she feels like everybody is changing things all around her. There is only one problem with that she didn't want anything to change and no one seems to care or even realize that she doesn't want it or even likes it. Her Dad is a captain in the Navy, he and her mom divorced and he is shipping out. Morgan's mom is now remarried and is about to have a baby.

 Morgan becomes so involved in her own thoughts and feelings when suddenly things start making a turn for the worse, as if it could get any worse. She then finds herself with other worries in this book aptly named A+ Attitude where she starts to look at herself and her circumstances and after the advice of others decides maybe her attitude does need some work.

Our job as a parent is to always keep a watchful eye on our children but most importantly we need to be ready to correct at a moments notice. When you have a child that is willing and ready to change that behavior it is refreshing and heart warming to say the least. The character is in this book is a little cutie that has recognized that and trying her best to make up for it. If you have a child that may need some work this is the perfect book to read to them, it may help them to see that some correction maybe necessary.

My Review:
 A terrible accident has left forty something Mary Fassler alone. She decides after awhile that a companion may do her heart some justice so she purchases a Miniature Schnauzer from a very uptight breeder. She soon settles on the name Rufus but has no reason for the choice. Rufus seems to be a very sweet, spirited, lovely dog. He doesn't act up and isn't violent. But soon kind hearted Mary sees that there is so much more to this dog than meets the eye.

 Jim Kraus is a very articulate writer. The Dog That Talked to God is a very unique book written from the main characters point of view. You are soon entrapped in her life but not in a bad sort of way. You want to learn more about her and her predicament. I found myself falling in love with her and Rufus almost immediately. This book is a different book than what I'm use to but above all it was very enjoyable and speaks right to the heart.

My Review:
 The setting of this book takes place in the Smoky Mountains in the early 1900's. The story centers around a young woman by the name of Rani Martin that thinks everything in her life is complete. Complete that is until her good friend Josie moves away with her family to find work because there is no work at Cades Cove. Rani had been contemplating finding a husband some day when Josie finally explained to her that sometimes in life you have to settle because the one you want may never come along.

 Meanwhile Matthew returns to the Cove trying to locate his old family farm trying to find a tree that his father planted for his mother on their wedding day. He was going there to fulfill a death bed request by his mother. Upon finding it he hears alot of screaming and fussing in a female voice. So he just stands by and listens to what appears to be Rani, I believe fussing at God about her problems. He is captivated by this beautiful creature.

 Seeing Rani makes living in this town so much easier......

My Review:
 Living in Montana as beautiful and breathe taking as it may be does not replace the fact that Sarah Shelter sometimes feels that the Lord has looked over her when it comes to sending a future husband her way. Michael seemed the likely candidate until tragedy struck the lives and hearts of the town of West Kootenai when Sarah's best friend was taken from her so suddenly. Things get shuffled after something like that happens to you and something like finding a mate seems not so important as it once was.

 Sarah has always saved her memories or any tangible items she could take away from different happenings in her life and placed them in a Memory Jar so she could cherish them longer. As if the memories sometimes bore deep into her soul things seem to change when one of the men that comes to their town for hunting season makes an appearance... Jathan Schrock. Jathan couldn't get Sarah out of his mind. He already found out alot about her and her family in the short time he had been there. But couldn't help but notice that she had a sadness in her eyes, a sadness that he couldn't recollect hearing anything about.

My Review:
 This beautifully illustrated and handsomely bound book would make an excellent addition to your library of holiday books. It will instantly become a classic. Tamara Amos has taken the beloved poem, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and gave it a unique spin that is sure to delight many children as well as parents. The story begins with a father demanding that Santa return Christ's birthday celebration back to Him by not creating what he believes as materialism in the hearts of all children.

The story takes an unusual turn when Santa shows the father the reason for his appearance all these years. This story is not meant to be a replacement for the true meaning of Christmas. I think it is just a different way to  look at Santa's reason for being. In our home our children have always known that Jesus is the only reason we even have Christmas. And that the happiness that you have about Christmas is only a small portion of the happiness that we will receive compared to that in Heaven. The best thing in this life is the promise of an eternal one.

My Review:
 The author has taken some of her favorite Bible verses and put them in book form in the hopes that your children can better understand and learn from them. The book includes 100 different verses on a variety of subjects that include but are not limited to God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, the Ten Commandments, and so on. It is a small book packed full of goodness.The author hopes that the children using this book will memorize the verses and passages and apply them to their daily lives.
Each section includes:

Bible verses, a short explanation or definition.

Thoughts or questions to ponder on or discuss.

Things God wants me  to know--a more elaborate explanation.

Ending Prayer to sum it all up.

 It is important as parents for our children to really have understanding of the Bible. There is nothing worse than a grown up that is having to teach themselves what the Bible is and about everything it contains and what it means. My Review:
The 1880's found many women down on their luck, such was so for Sarah Whittier. In the beginning of the book it begins with Sarah headed to the Pomroy Real Estate Associates building again to try and secure the lease on a store front that she plans on making into a custom art studio. Mr. Pomroy allows her six months to try and do something with this property that Josiah left her when he passed away. Josiah had been like a father to her but he was gone now and she had to try and make something out of herself and the newly acquired property.

Meanwhile, Daniel Cady is new in town trying to locate his long, lost father. His father had struck it rich out west and never returned home to his family. He isn't wanting anything from his father. He just wants some financial help with his siblings.

Sarah puts up her house as collateral for the store front so Sarah better make this work or she will lose everything. Little does she know Mr. Daniel Cady can help her out with it all.

My Review:
 It all begins with Annalisa who is out picking nuts for her family. She keeps going over in her mind how very strange her husband has been acting. And how he has been losing more and more income that is meant for them to raise their daughter, Gretchen. She has decided to have a talk with him about his behavior. She notices he has been in their yard burning and clearing the land. She starts looking every where but can't find him and then she notices her husband on the ground.

 Meanwhile, Carl is a nobleman and he really enjoys science and creating experiments. He is getting blamed for something he feels he clearly did not do. So Carl's new home is a dungeon and he is awaiting his punishment. Carl is rescued by his man-servant, sent by Carl's father which is trying to help him escape. What will happen when the two of these characters cross paths?
