Review: Broken Wings by:Carla Stewart

Broken Wings
About the Book:
Onstage, the singing duo of Gabe and Mitzi Steiner captured America's heart for more than two decades. Offstage, their own hearts have throbbed as one for sixty years. Only now, Gabe has retreated into the tangles of Alzheimer's, leaving Mitzi to ponder her future alone.

On the other side of Tulsa, everyone believes Brooke Woodson has found the perfect man--a handsome lawyer with sights on becoming Tulsa's next District Attorney. If only Brooke felt more sure. If only her fiancé could control his anger. If only love didn't come with so many scars.

When an accident lands Brooke in the hospital where Mitzi volunteers, the two women quickly develop an unlikely friendship birthed by providence and bathed in grace. And with Mitzi's help, kindness, and insight, Brooke learns how to pick up the broken pieces of her life.

My Review:
This book is a very touching one. One that can be dealt with in many different ways and incurring several different emotions on both ends of the spectrum. It deals with abusive relationships and also the love between a couple that will never be severed even by Alzheimer's. This book starts to take a dramatic turn when these two women together heal the broken pieces left by these two relationships.

Review:The Well by:Mark Hall w/Tim Luke

The Well: Why Are So Many Still Thirsty?
About the Book:
Why are so many so close to the Well and still so thirsty? Mark Hall takes the powerful story of the Woman at the Well and her encounter with Jesus to help readers understand that the 'wells' we go to for life and sustenance, the 'wells' of success, talent, control, favor, religion, etc., are keeping us from relying on Jesus and his abundant life, and we will never be truly satisfied until we realize that and go to Him for our needs.

My Review:
Mark Hall the lead singer in one of the best Christian bands of all time, Casting Crowns has written a very raw and very real book on a closer relationship with the Lord and how the closer you walk with Him it changes your life in so many ways. He took his thoughts on many of the thoughts and commands of the bible and told us his thoughts. it was a very good, open book that can really give you a more thorough understanding of the Christian walk.

Review:All-In 2 Night by:Lynne Burgess

All-In 2 Night
About the Book:
All-In Night is a family routine. For one night of the week everyone stays home. By spending ten to twenty minutes together, you can learn and talk about the things that matter. Following on from Lynne's original book this set of new activities is designed especially with Christian families in mind. An activity or discussion point each week. The book includes 40 weeks of activities, designed as 1 per week of the school year.Activities include love languages, listening for God, self-esteem, the fruits of the spirit and many more. These fun and simple family activities provide an opportunity to grow values, goals, hopes, feelings and the foundation for a Christ led life. All-in Night works with two kids or ten. Let it become the heart of your family's life.

My Review:
Sometimes families need a way to reconnect as a family. The author of All-In 2 Night explains that this is something she created with her family when the family business, church obligations, and other activities presented a disconnect among her spouse and children that would lead to problems for them all down the road. So as a mother of five grown children she put what has worked for her family in a book to share with others.

The idea for an All-In is to pick a topic that the children will have a week to take an implement different activities regarding the topic. And these topics change from week to week including the activities. Everything is scripture based so that the most important detail of our lives is NOT left out or forgotten. I enjoyed the book immensely. Having young children myself, I get so busy taking care of them that making memories and reconnecting with them is usually put on the back burner.

The purpose of All-In 2 Night is to basically invest in your family with God's word and your undivided attention and time. Hopefully, you will build something in them that will last a lifetime.

Review:Rocky Mountain Adventures by:Betty Swinford

 Rocky Mountain Adventures
About the Book:
The Rocky Mountains are full of rugged terrain and breathtakingly high mountains. They are all about the stunning beauty of creation. But there's danger too with black mountain bears and poisonous snakes to watch out for. Elk, deer, moose and coyotes all live and survive in this part of the United States of America. Humans live there too and missionaries. Yes missionaries! Because everyone who loves Jesus is a missionary whatever country they live in. Read about trekking and white water rafting, the black panther and a deadly spider. Find out about the Navajo Indians and how people are praying for them and that many of these wonderful native Americans will be brought to know Jesus Christ for themselves. Join in the Rocky Mountain Adventure set out on the trail that will teach you about this wonderful mountain range and the amazing God who created it. Betty Swinford lived right in the mountains of northern Arizona. There is lots of snow, a monsoon season, mountain lions and bears walking down the streets she brings to life the life round about her.

My Review:
The rugged Rocky Mountains located in the northwestern part of the United States are full of all kinds of interesting sites and attractions. And lets not forget full of all kinds of creatures whether its the black bear, elk, deer, or even all the poisonous snakes in the area.

As you will soon learn about this area of the United States upon reading the book, it is not a place for the light hearted. There are some wild and sometimes deadly animals among the mountain terrain. Join the author and her family as they take us along on some of their wild and exciting adventures. And even though these adventures are hair raising, they could be some of the best , most fun things your children could learn about. Throughout the book the author shares God's word to help keep everything in this fascinating world in perspective. Too many times we take the world around us and forget who gave us all the wonderful landscapes and wildlife to enjoy.

Review:Wild West Adventures by:Donna Vann

Wild West Adventures
About the Book:
Cowboys and Indians, buffalo stampedes, eating well-roasted mouse as a cure for measles - what was it like to live in the Wild West? This area of America stretched from the Mississippi River all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Although you don't often see covered wagons or teepees these days, there are still cowboys and Indians. And the West is still wild - especially when you consider what else lives there - bears, coyotes and poisonous snakes! As well as amazing nature and incredible adventures, there are stories of people of faith who were inspired by Jesus. You can be like a pioneer as you explore this part of God's surprising and wonderful world. Come along on the journey!

About the Author:
I grew up in Texas, but have lived in the UK for many years. My inspiration for becoming a children's writer came through the many books I read as a child - I wanted to do for other kids what these books had done for me. Also, my father was a newspaper editor, so writing seemed like a very normal occupation.

It's sometimes hard to force myself to sit down and write, but I have a regular writing schedule of 2 hours a day, five days a week. That may not sound like a lot, but the main thing is just to stick with it.

One of the most fun things for me as a writer is seeing my books take kids out of their ordinary world for a few hours. Maybe they will come back slightly changed. That's what keeps me getting up in the morning, sitting at my desk for the hard slog of writing a book. I love hearing from my readers, at www.donnavann.com

My Review:
Most of around today will have a hard time telling our children what it was like in America during the late 1800's to early 1900's. That is why its important for our children to learn from books and pictures. This is perhaps the most important way because this is about all we have to go on. But thankfully we are able to take a step back into the past without living the comforts of our living room.

In Wild West Adventures, the author Donna Vann shows us a little snippet of what it was like in America during those days. The cowboy had a long, exhausting life in those days. If there was anything to be done on a ranch or farm such as rustling the cattle or maybe even branding them, the cowboy of those days would be the man for the job. The book goes on to tell us so much more about the wild west long ago, that would most definitely hold a child's attention and expand their imaginations.

The best part of the book is the underlying message of having a standing relationship with Christ, the maker of all that is around us. This book is part of a series of awesome adventure books, to learn more go to this link.

Review:My Mama&Me by:Crystal Bowman

My Mama and Me: Rhyming Devotions for You and Your Child
About the Book:
A companion book to "My Grandma and Me, " this book is specifically written for mother and child. "My Mama and Me" is designed around four questions: Can You Tell Me about God? Can You Tell Me about Jesus? What Does God Think about Me? How Can I Show God I Love Him?Through 25 rhyming devotions and fun activities, Mom can answer these questions for the curious little one. It's a great way to introduce kids to faith at an early age yet in an age-appropriate and understandable manner.

Each devotion also includes a short Bible verse and a prayer that mother and child can recite together. Some of the activities include creating a card, making a heart wreath, and singing--all of the activities are directly related to the theme for the devotion. These devotions translate to hours of meaningful, faith-filled fun.The book ends with a touching prayer every mother will want to pray for her children.
Crystal Bowman
About the Author:
Crystal and her husband, Bob, have enjoyed 38 years of marriage and are the parents of 3 grown children and 1 grandchild. They live in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

My Review:
My Mama&Me is a precious children's book. It is a devotional that is in a question and answer format with prayers and activities included. A perfect book to introduce to your children to a more close and loving relationship with God.

This book includes twenty five different devotions that teaches children about God, scripture, and prayer. And the activity is used to reinforce the theme of that particular devotion. Our children always have tons of questions and this little book can be a parents best friend to help with those questions. There is also a special mother's prayer included in the back of the book.

This book is rich in scripture and all topics related to a subject that we should never stop talking about especially with our kids. The illustrations are perfect. They are sweet and innocent. The subject matter is something that should be addressed  and taught to our children at an early age. This book is the best one I have found out today that would be a good starter. If you are interested in purchasing the book you can go to this link. This book is showing a release date of September 2013.

Double Review: Grace Unplugged&Own It by:Carlson/DiMarco

 Grace Unplugged
About Grace Unplugged:
Grace Trey is an eighteen-year-old singer as passionate about her Christian faith as she is her phenomenal, God-given musical talent. Both traits come from her father, one-hit wonder Johnny Tray who found Jesus after losing his chart success two decades ago.

When Grace encounters her own music break of a lifetime, the sudden dive into the "real world" puts her deeper beliefs to the test. Pop superstardom is just within reach but appears to require some spiritual compromise. Will Grace reject her faith, or will she own it?

Grace Unplugged is based on the motion picture of the same name starring AJ Michalka (Super 8) and Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men).

My Thoughts:
Grace Trey is just like any other young girl. She sees her dreams ahead of her and she is ready, willing and able to just reach out and grab it. But another thing I noticed about her was that she kind of doesn't think her parents have really "been there and done that". Which that in itself is not a good sign for a girl ready to jump out and capture the world that is just out of her reach. So join us as we take a journey with her through the "hard knocks" of her life to see what happens to this young girl and her dreams.

This book is being turned into a movie that will premier on October 4, 2013.

Own It: Discover Your Faith in God

About Own It:
The movie Grace Unplugged tells the story of Grace Trey, an ideal Christian teenager who is also a phenomenal singer. But when she is pushed into the “real world” at the tender age of eighteen after getting the music break of a lifetime, her faith is put to the test.

Own It! mirrors the film by asking what it means to really “own” your personal faith rather than just automatically following in the footsteps of parents, friends, or other influencers. Best-selling authors Hayley and Michael DiMarco help readers understand what to do when faith meets real world challenges.

Without solid beliefs, poor choices are likely to follow. You must take the time to really know who you are, who you are becoming, and who God made you to be. It's your personal faith . . . own it!

My Thoughts:
This book is a brilliant concept. It raises the question, your faith, where did it come from? Did it come from your parents? Are you borrowing it? Are you faking it? This book forces you to make a choice. A choice that can change your life forever. Do you get up on Sunday mornings just going through the motions? Are you one of those Sunday Christians? Or are you only a Christian when it suits you?

This book forces you to reflect on just what you are doing to own it? To own your faith. To figure out what God is all about and to create or recreate that hunger to know Him more intimately.

Now is you chance to own both of these great books. One winner will receive both of these awesome books for their very own. Good Luck!

Litfuse Review: On Distant Shores by:Sarah Sundin

On Distant Shores (Wings of the Nightingale, #2)
About the Book:
Lt. Georgiana Taylor has everything she could want. A comfortable boyfriend back home, a loving family, and a challenging job as a flight nurse. But in July 1943, Georgie’s cozy life gets decidedly more complicated when she meets pharmacist Sgt. John Hutchinson. Hutch resents the lack of respect he gets as a noncommissioned serviceman and hates how the war keeps him from his fiancĂ©e. While Georgie and Hutch share a love of the starry night skies over Sicily, their lives back home are falling apart. Can they weather the hurt and betrayal? Or will the pressures of war destroy the fragile connection they’ve made?
Sarah Sundin
 About the Author:

Sarah Sundin enjoys writing about the drama and romance of the World War II era. The Wings of the Nightingale series (With Every Letter, 2012, On Distant Shores, August 2013, and In Perfect Time, August 2014) follows three World War II flight nurses as they find love, friendship, and peril in the skies and on the shores of the Mediterranean. The Wings of Glory series from Revell (A Distant Melody, A Memory Between Us, and Blue Skies Tomorrow) follows three brothers who are B-17 bomber pilots during World War II. Sundin lives in northern California with her husband, three children, an antisocial cat, and a yellow lab bent on destroying her writing career. When she isn't driving kids to tennis and karate, she works on-call as a hospital pharmacist and teaches Sunday school and women's Bible studies.

My Review:
Georgie can only think about how much she wants to go home and start a new life with her boyfriend, but as the days of being lieutenant drag on she begins to doubt what she really wants in life.

John being a pharmacist during war time isn't easy, especially when you've got a girl back home waiting to marry you when you come home.

Georgie and Lieutenant Lambert head out to a pharmacy that came out to Sicily along with them. While Lambert goes to speak with someone, Georgie heads to the pharmacy to speak with the pharmacist about moving the shipment from the jeep they came in. But Georgie didn't expect to walk in to a place were men haven't seen women in a while or were there's a handsome pharmacist. Georgie soon takes a liking to John. They end up doing a few things together, from looking at the stars to telling her of the ways to make aspirin. But when it seems all at home is falling apart will these two find a way through it?

Review:She's Twelve Going On Twenty by:Kim Camp

She's Twelve Going on Twenty: Nurturing Your Daughter Through the Tween Years
About the Book:
Especially for moms of teens and preteens, a practical, Christ-centered guide to helping your daughter grow in mind, body, and spirit.

As the mother of a young girl aged 9 to 16, you want a lot for your daughter. You want to see her soar in self-confidence and accomplishment, to navigate a safe course through the treacherous waters of school, culture, and hormones, and to grow closer to God while learning to rely on his Word. And through it all to maintain a warm, open mother-daughter relationship.

"She's Twelve Going on Twenty"offers a comprehensive, Christian approach to issues almost every mother and daughter will encounter: Identity and faith Music, movies, TV, and the Internet Boys and falling in love, sex and purity School and grades Drugs and alcohol Clothes, fads, appearance, and body language Boundaries and personal safety.

Easy-to-read and deeply personal, this invaluable book draws on a wealth of experience, careful research, and a deep grounding in the Bible and Christian faith. "Working It Out Together"at the end of each chapter provides communication starters and activities to help you and your daughter talk things out and plot a positive course together for the challenging but exciting adolescent years.

My Review:
I will be frank, I'm a mother of one daughter and three boys. And while the boys are loud, obnoxious and VERY boisterous. Our daughter is a drama queen that drives us up the wall with her mood swings. We love her dearly  but alot of times she will be very angry or depressed and we haven't got the faintest reason why. In Kim Camp's book, She's Twelve Going on Twenty, she shows us how to nurture that relationship with your tween daughter so that the rest of her teenage years are not filled with dread.

She has taken different ideas and issues and sorted them out for us and she has included a special section at the end of each chapter with ways a mother and daughter can come together and sort through their emotions. Maybe these points or ideas could possibly show our daughters their worth or show them how much we value you them. My own daughter and I hope to have a "girls night out" together and maybe do a Bible study together. We have already established regular talks where she can express what she is feeling or talk about any problems she may have.

I try to always keep the line of communication open. We love our daughter and we pray that we will always have a good relationship with her. We try to keep up with who her friends are and who influences her.

Just like our Father lets us know we are important to Him. We try to do the same for our little girl.

Review:Faithprints by:Rebekah Binkley Montgomery

Faithprints: Touching Your World for Jesus
About the Book:
Touching the world for Jesus can happen in the most unlikely ways, and through the most unlikely people. This fun-to-read, nuts- and-bolts guidebook proves readers don't have to be perfect to Faithprint, leaving Jesus's lasting impression on the world.

My Review:
In Rebekah Binkley Montgomery's book Faithprints, she shows us how to make an impact on the world around us by leaving Jesus' imprint. A message that will stay with them for a lifetime. One that will leave an imprint on their heart, hopefully and prayerfully changing their lives forever.

Ways to serve our Lord could be as simple as helping a friend out when they are under the weather or have no food in their home. Or maybe it could be on a bigger scale by feeding the needy in our communities or helping with the church's clothing drive. Another way would be helping with cancer research or the AIDS epidemic.

The author has carefully took different situations and showed us how each Faithprint was instilled in the person or persons involved. She also shows you how you may do this very thing. And finally gives you a few things to consider and look into. It is the best self help guide for those of us in the service of helping others.

Review:A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider by:Lindquist/Nelles (edited by)

A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider: Words to Stimulate the Mind and Delight the Spirit
About the Book:
The much-anticipated sequel to Hot Apple Cider: Words to Stir the Heart and Warm the Soul. Features: A unique collection of inspirational stories, poems and articles Real stories, real people, real faith Great writing Honesty and vulnerability combined with hope Well-known, experienced writers and passionate, new writers Gentle humor, warm encouragement, and stimulating challenges Attractive, gift book layout.

My Review:
A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider is a book with a collection of heart warming grace filled stories used to instantly make you want to sit by a warm fire, bundled in a blanket until you close the book. It is touching and it is filled with short stories by many Canadian authors.

My favorite two stories were True Thanksgiving which tells of a woman who in the middle of her unforgivable pain had to learn that God does indeed make goodness out of our bad and even our sad experiences. My second favorite was When You're Understood You Can Put Up With Almost Anything, where the author talks about his long, lasting marriage and what has helped he and his wife, Janice stay so closely connected all these years.

The short stories are the perfect length. And you don't have to worry about continuing where you left off. They are very endearing and inspiring stories sure to lift any mood. If you are interested in purchasing the book you can do so at this link. There is also a discussion guide available if you would like to use it in a group setting, that link is here.

Review:The Christmas I'll Never Forget by:David C. Reyes

The Christmas I'll Never Forget
About the Book:
Young Luke desperately wants a horse to call his very own. But as his brother 's health steadily grows worse with an unknown illness, what their lives really need is a miracle. Having to do all the chores around the ranch, Luke feels that life is being a little unfair. To add to this, he is being asked to work for a local stable to provide the income needed to enjoy the Christmas holiday. As he works by the sweat of his brow, he soon forms a close bond with one of the horses. Will Luke finally receive the gift he so desperately wants, or will this be his brother's last Christmas? As all these things culminate on Christmas day, Luke will learn a valuable lesson of God's ultimate plan for their lives.

My Review:
Christmas vacation is suppose to be a fun time for a child. At least when I was a child this was the case. But unfortunately that wasn't the way it was for Luke Dawson one particular year. This year he felt like the entire world was against him and his family. Luke and his family had a few farm animals they use to sustain their family. But what really helped them through was Luke's father's job, but this year that was even hit and miss. But this one particular winter it was taking all his parents could do to even put food on the table. Not to mention the fact that Luke's brother, Benny was deathly ill and noone could explain why.

So to help the family out for Christmas Luke went to work at the local feed store to take care of the horses. He doing there what he loved the most, taking care of the owners horses. At the beginning of the book Luke is very worried that what his father shared with him in confidence will come true. That this is indeed his brothers last Christmas. While his father is sharing this thought with him, they both decide that they will make this the Christmas Benny will never forget.

Come and follow along with this family as they show us how they relied on the Lord to get them through something that only God can help us with.

Review:Spartan & The Green Egg by:Nabila Khashoggi

About the Book:
Spartan, his three friends, and his dog, Grimm, as they travel the Universe. The mission of this talented team is to gain and share knowledge of their amazing discoveries. With the power of their minds, they made contact with a race of alien explorers, who communicate with them via an egg-shaped spaceship that is itself an organic alien being. Their expeditions are made even more exciting through the use of new technology and cool gadgets, provided by their new friend, who goes by the name of Egg. In Book 1, A Trip to the Rainforest, the team’s introduction to the rainforest and all its wonders is made even more fun by the company of two native Amazonian Indians. Their extraordinary visit is not without a few close calls. After an eye-opening experience with a mysterious Shaman, their own troubles seem to pale in comparison to what they learn. The rainforest is in danger of vanishing, and all its creatures and plant life are at risk of extinction. With the help of the Green Egg’s out-of-this-world technology, the team is able to put a big dent into the path of destruction and re-new hope for the survival of the rainforest.

About the Author:
Mother to Spartan and Layth, lives in New York with her family.

Litfuse Review: Whispers on the Dock by:Evangeline Kelley

Whispers On The Dock (Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn #3)
About the Book:
Three sisters. A charming inn. Hints of mystery and romance. And a gorgeous seaside setting. Escape to Misty Harbor Inn. Readers will delight in the adventures of these three sisters who reunite to bring their mother's dreams to life.

About the Authors:
Evangeline Kelley is the pen name for the writing team of Patti Berg, Pam Hanson & Barbara Andrews, and Camy Tang, who collaborated to create Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn. Each of them has published novels individually, but this is their first series together. Other books in the series include Seaside Harmony and Sunflower Summer.

My Review:
Sam Carter, Caroline Marris, and Gracie Gold are three sisters who decide to go into together to purchase and run a bed and breakfast. The house that they decide to run this business from is rich in historical facts and abounds with mystery. The mystery of the house is very intriguing but little did they know that it would also affect them so closely. Soon they are greeted by a former guest of the historical home that stayed there as a young child. This house guest has alot to share about her stay there.

Meanwhile, Sam decides to enter a local baking contest, And no sooner does she enter she finds out that her opponent is a past winner that plans on winning this time also, no matter what it takes. Its not long before the sisters are definitely relying on the Almighty to get them through this seamlessly.

Whispers on the Dock is the third book in the Postcards from the Misty Harbor Inn series. The book was very entertaining from the start. The authors did a wonderful job of catching my interest from the first page of the book.

Review: Sisters of Mercy Flats by:Lori Copeland

 Sisters of Mercy Flats
About the Book:
From noted author Lori Copeland (more than 3 million books in print) comes a romantic new story of God's faithfulness when hope seems lost.

The three wily and beautiful McDougal sisters can swindle a man faster than it takes to lasso a calf. But their luck is running out, and they're about to be hauled off to jail. When the wagon carrying them falls under attack, each sister is picked up by a different man. Unfortunately for Abigail, she's grabbed by a twit of a shoe salesman, Mr. Hershall Digman. She steals his horse and rides off to the nearest town, not giving him another thought...until she discovers those secret papers in his saddlebags. Could Mr. Digman be a Confederate spy?

As if to prove it, the man who comes storming after her is no shoe salesman, but a handsome captain who wants his papers back...at any cost. And Abigail wants a ride back home. Together they embark on his mission, determined not to trust each other...or the God who won't seem to let them go.

 Lori Copeland
About the Author:
Lori lives in the beautiful Ozarks with her husband Lance. Lance and Lori have three sons, three daughter-in-laws, and six wonderful grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

Lance and Lori are very involved in their church, and active in supporting mission work in Mali, West Africa.

Lori began her writing career in 1982, writing for the secular book market. In 1995, after many years of writing, Lori sensed that God was calling her to use her gift of writing to honor Him. It was at that time that Lori began writing for the Christian book market. To date, she has had over 100 books published.

My Review:
Hoodwinked, is a good word to use if you ever come across the McDougal sisters. They are wild, charming and lots of fun. This book is definitely one where you will be turning the page, excited to see what will happen next. Sooner or later bad things catch up with you. This is exactly what happens to the sisters. The three of them also satisfied their guilt with saying that part of the money that they swindled would be donated to an orphanage in their hometown.

But luckily God will help us time and again. Especially during the most impossible of times. His tenderness and mercy was painstakingly placed in this book to show us that even the very bad He does NOT give up on. Each girl will be taken by a different man, just after their wagon was under attack and each one will have a chance to walk down a different road to an unknown future at least in the very beginning.

This was a very good piece of historical fiction that had some places therein that were lighthearted and silly. Not too mention packed with some honest action, which is exactly how I imagine the cowboys and ladies to be during that time. Lori Copeland was a new author to me that will soon become an old favorite.

Review: What Once Was Lost by:Kim Vogel Sawyer

What Once Was Lost: A Novel
About the Book:
On a small Kansas farm, Christina Willems lovingly shepherds a group of poor and displaced individuals who count on her leadership and have come to see the Brambleville Asylum for the Poor as their home. But when a fire breaks out in the kitchen leaving the house inhabitable, she must scramble to find shelter for all in her care, scattering her dear “family.”

With no other options, Christina is forced to approach Levi Jonnson, a reclusive mill owner, to take in a young blind boy named Tommy Kilgore. Levi agrees with reluctance but finds himself surprised by the bond that quickly grows between him and Tommy. As obstacles to repairing the farm pile up against Christina, she begins to question her leadership ability and wonders if she can fulfill the mission to which she's dedicated her life. And when an old adversary challenges Christina, will she find an unlikely ally—or more—in the aloof Levi? Can Levi reconcile with the rejection that led to his hermit-like existence and open his heart and life to something more, especially a relationship with a loving God?

Kim Vogel Sawyer is a best-selling author highly acclaimed for her gentle stories of hope. More than one million copies of her books are currently in print with awards including the ACFW Carol Award, the Inspirational Readers Choice Award, and the Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence. Kim lives in central Kansas, where she and her retired military husband, Don, run a bed-and-breakfast inn with the help of their feline companions. She savors time with her daughters and grandchildren.

My Review:
What can you do when you feel like your are doing what the Lord appointed you to do and it is met with tragedy? Well if you are anything like Christina Willems you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and begin again. She felt she was helping those in need by providing them with a roof over their heads but now the task at hand seems to have overtaken her. Soon she finds herself approaching Levi Johnson to help her out and she even second guesses that arrangement.

Pretty soon you start seeing the Lord at work in the lives of these people. Will they learn to trust and rely on Him with their needs or will they continue to rely on themselves? Kim Vogel Sawyer is a very well known author that has a strong God presence running through out her novels. What Once Was Lost was a very enjoyable read.

Review: Teach Your Children God's Message by:Patricia Allen McCuen

Teach Your Children God's Message: A True Message by God for Life from Death
About the Book:
God sternly and plainly stated, "You have to go back and tell." Somehow, I understood and already knew. I still did not know how I knew, but I knew and even replied, "Yes. I know. I have to tell." Shortly after leaving her fiance parents home located in Derry, PA, Patricia Allen and her fiance were crushed by a fully loaded coal truck. Patricia left her body twice at the scene of the accident. In the hospital when Patricia again left the pain of her severely injured body, she was held by God. She was shown a message she is to tell. Patricia's interpretation of what she was shown is not a new message but of one that is being greatly ignored. Teach the Child. "And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up" (Deuteronomy 11:19). Society suffers greatly by ignoring this message. How this message is shown gives an insight into the understanding of the Connections between God, Humanity, and Children.

About the Author:
Patricia Carol Allen McCuen has a Bachelor of Science in education from the University of South Carolina. She worked at South Mountain Children's home, where she and her husband attained custody of the girl who is now their daughter. Patricia and her family live in Pickens, South Carolina.

My Review:
Leave it to God to rock your world to teach you something that he entrusts you to teach to others. God is a BIG God so everything He does is on that scale. Just like the day He shook Patricia's to the core. She and her fiance were in a car accident that should of taken her life but instead God used it for His glory. He used it show Patricia and the rest of us that all of us are born with His love inside of us but as time goes on that bright light to the depths of our soul grows dim.

Maybe if we enrich that light in our children and nourish it, it will continue to grow to exceeding heights. Heights that are unimaginable to the human mind. The author chose to share this journey the Lord has taken her on because God wanted her to share the importance of the message. The author has given us much wisdom to live by and by providing this eye opening book on real life events has given us all alot to think about.

Litfuse Review:The Letters by:Suzanne Woods Fisher

 The Letters
About the Book:
Rose Schrock is a plain woman with a simple plan. Determined to find a way to support her family and pay off her late husband's debts, she sets to work to convert the basement of her Amish farmhouse into an inn. While her family, especially her cranky mother-in-law, is unhappy with Rose's big idea, her friend and neighbor, Galen King, supports the decision and he helps with the conversion. As Rose finalizes preparations for visitors, she prays. She asks God to bless each guest who stays at the Inn at Eagle Hill. As the first guest arrives and settles in, Rose is surprised to discover that her entire family is the one who receives the blessings, in the most unexpected ways. And she's even more surprised when that guest decides to play matchmaker for Galen King.
With her signature plot twists combined with gentle Amish romance, bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher invites readers back to Stoney Ridge for fresh stories of simple pleasures despite the complexity of life. Fisher's tale of God's providence and provision will delight her fans and create many new ones. Welcome to the Inn at Eagle Hill.

 Suzanne Woods Fisher
About the Author:
Suzanne Woods Fisher is a bestselling author of Amish fiction and non-fiction, and a columnist for Christian Post and Cooking & Such magazine. The Waiting was a finalist for a 2011 Christy Award. The Choice and The Search have been finalists for Carol Awards. Amish Peace: Simple Wisdom for a Complicated World and Amish Proverbs: Words of Wisdom from the Simple Life were both finalists for the ECPA Book of the Year (2010, 2011).

My Review:
Rose has found herself sort of at a cross roads. Her husband has left her with not only his children but also his debt. She lives in her mother in laws home along with her children. She has come to a point in her life where it is make it or break it time. She is tired of struggling. Trying to make ends meet is getting more difficult with each passing day. She needs a longer term solution.

So she feels God has given her just that when she is in a local store and over hears a conversation between some Englisher tourists about the lack of inns in the area. She offers her home up as a solution and suddenly things evolve from there. She wants to set up her home as a bed and breakfast and she feels that this may help her families situation. Its when she turns to her neighbor, Galen, for support on the venture that sparks seem to ignite forcing her to look at him in a totally different way.

Suzanne Woods Fisher is an excellent writer. One that opens up the Amish to us in the most brilliant of ways. She makes them feel like a neighbor to you. This book has a down home kind of feel. I'm excited to see what is next in the series.

Review:I Am Ruth by:Duff/Berg

I Am Ruth: A Story of Loss, Love, & Redemption
About the Book:
The life of biblical heroine Ruth is presented in a breathtaking collection of photos! More than just a simple love story, I Am Ruth is about courageously facing life after loss, rediscovering faith, and fearlessly placing yourself and your future in God's loving hands.

About the Author:
Brenda Duff has worked for Liberty University and Daystar Television Network. She is currently on staff at Berg Productions and has worked closely with Ken Berg for over 10 years. Ken Berg gave her the chance to learn about film production by allowing her to assist him on shoots. He also gave her a chance to express her enthusiasm about certain topics by giving her the opportunity to write some copy for his website and other projects. It turns out that research and writing are a good combination for her. She will always appreciate his encouragement.

My Review:
The story of Ruth and her diligence to remain by her mother in laws side even though nothing should hold her there, is something that baffles me. Why would she stay if her husband had passed away?

Even after everything that befallen the two women, Ruth stayed by Naomi's side. Ruth and Naomi were both descendents of Abraham and Lot and just like the two of them, these women traveled back to the Promised Land. The two of them were welcomed there and not long after arriving Ruth set out to earn something for their household. And as she did she met the man that would eventually become her husband, Boaz.

This book with its amazing photography was nothing short of breathe taking. The photos were taken in the Holy Land very close to where the actual events took place some 3,000 years prior. The book also contains the Biblical account of the story of Ruth and also the author explaining in more detail for a better understanding.

Review:Finding God In The Bible by:Darren Wilson

Finding God in the Bible: What Crazy Prophets, Fickle Followers and Dangerous Outlaws Reveal about Friendship with God
About the Book:
Fresh, Witty Approach to Friendship with God from a Popular Author and Filmmaker
The God of the Bible gets happy, angry, sad. We can bless him. He is jealous, giving, patient, protective, loving. He has character traits, a personality. Yet God is often viewed as an absentee landlord, a distant deity, an enigma with a frowning face; and we carry the defeatist expectation that we will never truly know him.
Popular filmmaker Darren Wilson shows from Scripture that this isn't so. Having traveled the world over for his documentaries and witnessed the miraculous more times than he can count, he comes to the Bible with an entirely fresh perspective to show readers how to approach God and how to understand their relationship to--and with--him.
At turns humorous and poignant, Wilson gives readers new understanding of some very familiar stories in the Bible, as well as modern-day stories of divine intervention, to show what these reveal about the character and personality of the Father--and how we can enter into a true, collaborative friendship with our Creator.

About the Author:
Darren Wilson is the founder of Wanderlust Productions. He has an MFA in screenwriting from Regent University. Wilson is currently the artist-in-residence at Judson University, and he speaks at churches and conferences with increasing regularity. He is the director of the feature films Finger of God, Furious Love, and the newly released Father of Lights and The Greatest Flight.

Wilson has been interviewed on It's Supernatural with Sid Roth and he was recently named one of the "21 Emerging Leaders of Tomorrow's Church" by Charisma magazine. He and his wife, Jenell, have three children and live near Chicago, Illinois. Learn more at www.wpfilm.com.

My Review:
Darren Wilson, a well known director of many Christian oriented films including Father of Lights has written a very informative book on how well we actually know God, entitled Finding God in the Bible. Darren has taken several well placed situations in the Bible and really taken them apart to decipher and show us why they were included in the Bible in the first place.

Judging by the way God has chosen to start with the creation of the world and how He spoke things into being can determine that He is a very creative God. Or how God probably had many more things happen with Moses than was ever revealed, why would that be so?

The author has given a very meaty account of what he believes a friendship with God should be all about. He helps us come to a better understanding for a more in depth study of this God that we are deathly fearful of but long to be in the arms of. A God that has a love that knows no bounds and that beckons us to get to know Him more.

The soft silicone cover material is removable and washable and also gives the Bibles a nice grip for little hands to carry.

The New Living Translation text is an excellent translation for kids because it’s so easy to read and understand.

My Review:
The Glipit Bible is a Bible like no other. While the Glipit is your standard New Living Translation Bible, the cover is very unique. The cover is made out of a type of silicone and comes with these small silicone pieces that will surely keep those little hands busy during those long sermons at church.

The cover along with the small, block type pieces that are included come in 4 different, very bright colors and there are over 120 of them. Your children can create a one of a kind Bible cover that is all their own. My boys added their thoughts....

My 10 yr old- "This Bible is awesome and I like the glow in the dark cross on the front!"

Review A Simple Change by:Judith Miller

A Simple Change (Home to Amana #2)
About the Book:
Joining the communal society of the Amana Colonies isn't what Jancey Rhoder planned for her future, but when unforeseen circumstances force her family to make some difficult decisions, she chooses to give up her teaching position in a Kansas City orphanage and move with her parents to Iowa.
Her besotted suitor, Nathan Woodward, isn't at all happy about the move and is determined to get Jancey to change her mind. And Jancey herself isn't sure what she's gotten herself into when the simple life of the Amana Colonies means she'll be assigned a job and may have to give up teaching for good. Will Nathan woo her back to the city, or will she be forever changed by the mysterious events and new relationships that await her in the quiet villages of the Amana Colonies--and decide to make this unique place her forever home?

Judith McCoy Miller
About the Author:
Judith McCoy Miller is an award-winning author whose avid research and love for history are reflected in her bestselling novels. Judy and her husband make their home in Topeka, Kansas.

My Review:
Jancey Rhoder is perfectly happy with her simple existence alongside her father and ailing mother. She teaches the children at the town orphanage. They delight in her care and affection for them. A delight that is mutually felt by her also. She comes home one day to find that her carefree life is coming  to a bend in the road and they must make a change for the health of her mother.

Living in Kansas City , she lived alot differently than she has come to know in the Amana Colonies. She will soon learn that it is going to get some getting use to. In the colonies things are done differently. Jobs are assigned to you which is something that you can tell rubs her the wrong way. Its not long before Jancey realizes that such a change will be a long arduous one for her.

The author did a lovely job with the story line. The book has some very strong characters that really drive the dialogue to new heights. So much so that I could imagine the conversations contained therein right in front of me.

CrossReads Book Blast & Giveaway: Keeper of Reign by Emma Right

Keeper of Reign By Emma Right

About the Book

Books written in blood. Most are lost, their Keepers with them. A curse that befell a people. A Kingdom with no King. Life couldn’t get more harrowing for the Elfies, a blend of Elves and Fairies. Or for sixteen-year-old Jules Blaze. Or could it? For Jules, the heir of a Keeper, no less, suspects his family hides a forgotten secret. It was bad enough that his people, the Elfies of Reign, triggered a curse which reduced the entire inhabitants to a mere inch centuries ago. All because of one Keeper who failed his purpose. Even the King’s Ancient Books, did not help ward off that anathema. Now, Gehzurolle, the evil lord, and his armies of Scorpents, seem bent on destroying Jules and his family. Why? Gehzurolle’s agents hunt for Jules as he journeys into enemy land to find the truth. Truth that could save him and his family, and possibly even reverse the age-long curse. Provided Jules doesn't get himself killed first.
