Litfuse Review: Beloved by:Robin Lee Hatcher

 Beloved
About the Book:
Diana Brennan came west on the orphan train and was given a home with a loving couple who cherished and spoiled her. At 17, she fell hard for Tyson Applegate, the son of a wealthy mine owner. After a whirlwind courtship and marriage, Tyson took off for adventures around the world, including fighting with the Rough Riders in Cuba. Receiving no word of him for seven years, Diana's infatuation with her dashing husband died an ugly death, and she is ready to move past the old pain and marry again, just as soon as Tyson is declared legally dead.

But when her husband returns, supposedly a changed man, he wants to reunite with his wife and run for the senate. While Diana suspects the election is his real reason for wanting her by his side, she agrees to maintain his home and to campaign with him, but when it is over, win or lose, she wants her freedom. He agrees with one condition----she must give him a chance to change her mind about him.

My Review:
Diana stares blankly at the man who just walked in on her dinner announcing her engagement to the new guy in her life. He was supposedly dead and she hadn't seen him for seven years and now here stands her husband. The man said to have been missing in combat, possibly even dead, stands staring longingly at her. Later she peaks to him and he asks her to meet him the next day, which wouldn't be a big deal accept what he proposes they do that next day. Will she be able to accept this?

Tyson didn't mean to upset her seven year ago and continually do it. But now he's here and he hopes she will see he has changed. He believes deeply in The Creator and has tried to fix his wrongdoings. But he doesn't know if he can prove that to Diana because she to has changed. Will he be able to prove his worth to her?

Brook is the man in the middle. He was engaged to the widow Diana but now she is a married woman. Well, she never actually stopped being one. But when it seems she may just choose Tyson, again, Brook is full of anger. And he needs to find someone to let it out on. But will Tyson be able to stop this crazy man?

Litfuse Review:Just One More Thing Before You Leave Home by:D. Gudgel

Just One More Thing: Before You Leave Home
About the Book:
Is your teen successfully prepared to leave home? Just One More Thing is filled with practical advice to help teens transition out of the house and into the rest of their life. In the book, the Gudgels use stories, perspectives, and dialogues to discuss 30 indispensable topics to help teens survive on their own, including: worldview, financial challenges, use of time, career moves, moral dilemmas, sex, painful experiences, and spiritual life, among others. Written from a Biblical perspective, the book is more of a guide to making good decisions than a lecture on how to live. It's perfect for a parent and teen to go over together or to give as a thoughtful gift. This is a book they'll reference for years to come.

About the Author:
Dr. Dave Gudgel currently serves as the Lead Pastor of Bridges Community Church in Los Altos, CA. Dave loves to teach, play golf, and travel. He and his wife Bernice have three children, two daughter-in-laws, and five adorable grandchildren. Dave has been a pastor for thirty years and a faculty member of Walk Thru the Bible Ministries for the past twenty five years. As an author, Dave has written four books: Owner’s Guide to Using Your Bible, Before You Live Together, Before You Get Engaged and recently Just One More Thing: Before You Leave Home.

My Review:
All parents at that dreaded point of their child leaving home, hope that we equip them well enough for the world out there. The author and his family are no different they wanted to make sure their children knew where they stood as they offered Biblically based advice on everything from choosing room mates to love to the ever challenging spending that all young people struggle with there first time away from home.

The authors are very in depth and helpful and have created the perfect example for every parent to go by when sharing this book and counseling their child. The authors have created a list of 30 common topics and then shared these with their three children to create a talking point with them. The author approached it as a meal shared with his children so that each of them knew where the other stood on each of the topics but he also used it as a gateway to teach them.

This book is the perfect help for parents. A real must read!

Review: Gracious Living Without Servants by:Brenda Cronin

Gracious Living Without Servants
About the Book:
Juliet has done the right thing all her life, and where’s it gotten her? She’s a thirty-year-old widow who’s had to move in with her parents.

Things start to look up when her glamorous—but married—neighbor Seth seems to be flirting with her and helps her land a job at a local paper.

Then she’s assigned to investigate Seth’s wife. Juliet is quickly immersed in lies, manipulation, and a deepening sex scandal. But she feels alive for the first time in a long time.

Maybe she needs to do the wrong thing for once. Or maybe she’s headed for disaster.

About the Author:
Brenda Cronin writes for The Wall Street Journal, where she has worked since 2001. Her short fiction has been published on both sides of the Atlantic. This is her first novel. Born in Washington, she was raised in Connecticut and lives in New York City.

My Review:
This review honestly, was a little difficult for me to do. I am not really in agreement with the plot line and how it all was handled among the lives of the characters. There is alot of things I disagree with but I will review this one the best I can to let you in on the overall feel of the book.

Upon opening the book and reading about the title character we find that Juliet has come from a pretty well off family, financially. She is a thirty year old woman that was married and had been for about a decade when her husband Alex was tragically and instantly killed in a car accident. She was now staying with her parents until, she had hoped that she could get back on her feet again. But after listening to one of her parents' close friends she had found out that her parents were afraid she would commit suicide after such a devastating blow to her life.

Well it's not long when she attends a party thrown by her parents that she finds herself flirting with a man that is thirty years older than her. At first she feels a little guilty but decides she has nothing left to lose. After getting a job through the family friend things start changing for Juliet in ways you may not expect. This book has alot of twists and turns.

The storyline is a strong one with some foul language. The author has done a real good job making the characters seem very real and the story a prevalent one at times seemed very convincing as well.

Review: Awakening Faith by:James Stuart Bell

Awakening Faith: Daily Devotions from the Early Church
About the Book:
In simple, updated language, Awakening Faith by James Stuart Bell provides a year of inspiring readings drawn from the earliest teachers and writers of the church---the Church Fathers. In every reflection you will be refreshed by deep wells of wisdom and spiritual insight. 'In the age of Twitter and Facebook, where glib sayings abound, one yearns to read some deeper wisdom about life and faith on a regular basis. Well, here you have it, a compendium of wisdom, devotion, and biblical insight from some of the most thoughtful and faithful Christians from the early eras of the church's history. And in Facebook sized posts. That's a nice change of pace!' ---Mark Galli, editor, Christianity Today.

About the Author:
James Stuart Bell, Jr., is a former director of religious publishing at Doubleday, executive director of Bridge Publishing, and executive editor at Moody Publishing. The writer, editor, or compiler of more than 140 books, he owns Whitestone Communications, Inc., a literary development agency, and makes his home in the western suburbs of Chicago. Bell is married with four children.

My Review:
Awakening Faith, is the most appropriate title for the latest work by the great James Stuart Bell. The book in all of its 366 devotions contain some of the best and most undeniable words of faith and honor to the Lord. Devotions meant to spur us on in times of trouble and adversity. The author has combined several words, quotes and things of the like from some of the earliest writers and teachers of the early church. Inspirational readings that even though written so long ago still apply to life and faith even today.

The early teachers and writers of the church were no different than you and I in their personal lives, they too struggled and strived with being more Christlike. Hearing their words and thoughts on different subjects such as the church, salvation, prayer&devotion, Holiness, service&stewardship give us encouragement to stay the course along life's way until that day when we meet our Savior is simply heart warming. There were many of the Church Fathers that I didn't recognize such as Basil the Great and Dorotheus of Gaza, but the author didn't leave us empty-handed he included a brief summary in the back of the book of each one to further your knowledge on these great guys of faith.

My favorite from the book is probably Hippolytus' thoughts on "Interpreting Scripture Correctly". A quote from the book, "Sacred Scripture is God's gift to us, and it should be understood in the way that he intends; we should not do violence to it by interpreting it according to our own preconceived ideas." My husband decided to keep this book for himself to help with his future sermons but this book can easily be used by anyone as a daily devotional. I love the book it is a very valuable resource in Bible study.

Review: The Dawn of Christmas by:Cindy Woodsmall

The Dawn of Christmas: A Romance from the Heart of Amish Country
About the Book:
This Christmas, experience learning to trust alongside the Plain folk of Apple Ridge, Pennsylvania in this heart-warming tale of second chances.

Sadie enjoys her freedom away from home and her mission trips to Peru, but after four years, her Old Order Amish family insists it’s time to come home and settle down. Levi, a bachelor who distrusts women after a family heartbreak, also has no desire for romance. To keep their families from meddling in their lives, Sadie and Levi devise a plan—but soon discover that the walls around their hearts are breaking down. Can they let go of their prejudices, learn to trust each other, and embrace a future together?

 Cindy Woodsmall
About the Author:
Cindy Woodsmall is a New York Times, CBA, ECPA, and USA Today best-selling author who has written a dozen (and counting!) works of fiction and one of nonfiction. She and her dearest Old Order Amish friend, Miriam Flaud, coauthored the nonfiction, Plain Wisdom: An Invitation into an Amish Home and the Hearts of Two Women. Cindy has been featured on ABC Nightline and on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, and has worked with National Geographic on a documentary concerning Amish life. In June of 2013, the Wall Street Journal listed Cindy as the second most popular author of Amish fiction, following Beverly Lewis.

She's a veteran homeschool mom who no longer holds that position. As her children progressed in age, her desire to write grew stronger. After working through reservations whether this desire was something she should pursue, she began her writing journey. Her husband was her staunchest supporter as she aimed for what seemed impossible.

She's won Fiction Book of the Year, Reviewer's Choice Awards, Inspirational Reader's Choice Contest, as well as one of Crossings' Best Books of the Year. She's been a finalist for the prestigious Christy, Rita, and Carol Awards, Christian Book of the Year, and Christian Retailers Choice Awards.

Cindy and her husband reside near the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains in their now empty nest.

If you'd like more information or to contact her, you can go to her website: http://www.cindywoodsmall.com or Facebook https://www.facebook.com/authorcindywoodsmall

My Review:
Returning to Apple Ridge is so heart warming to me. I love Cindy Woodsmall and fell in love with her books based on this series and I will not be happy to see it end. In her time honored way the author has even kept this book ever so heart-warming as all the other books in the series. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. Sadie is someone I loved from the beginning and even Levi was someone I felt like I knew.

Sadie was on the eve of her wedding when she ever so blatantly discovered her future husband had wandering eyes and hands. so to save her from any future embarrassment she did not continue with the wedding. After several years away she was virtually happy with her lot in life to be a proverbial old maid after all it is much easier for her that way. It isn't long before God steps in and leads both Sadie and Levi on an adventure neither will soon forget. Sadie finds Levi thrown from his horse one night while out on a ride she herself was not suppose to take. It's not long before you can feel the chemistry between them through the pages.

Sadie and Levi both would rather not let themselves go to the thought of loving another individual due to all the heartbreak they have either experienced or seen amongst their own family. But something has to be done to get a break from the countless prying people around them that are always trying to push them towards love. So soon their is a plan devised that is basically a fake courtship that will be dissolved before the new year. All seems well until Levi finds out something he isn't so sure he likes and it is almost their undoing. Until at long last he sees things for what they really are. Because of this he is granted one last shot at the love he so desperately craves.

Review: Peace on Earth, a Christmas Collection by:Mary Engelbreit

Peace on Earth, a Christmas Collection
About the Book:
Mary Engelbreit's Peace on Earth: A Christmas Collection rings in the holiday with classic Christmas carols, the story of Jesus' birth, and beloved poems that celebrate the season with her beloved and engaging illustrations.

About the Author:
Mary Engelbreit grew up studying the illustrations in the vintage storybooks of her mother's own childhood, and she developed a unique style that harkens back to those simpler times. Mary's distinctive images have made her a celebrity to millions, who eagerly snap up gift items, calendars, books, fabrics, and more. Mary's dearest wish has always been to illustrate for children. Her New York Times bestselling The Night Before Christmas is already part of the holiday tradition for families across the country.

My Review:
It has become a time honored tradition in homes everywhere to get a Mary Engelbreit book and sit by the fire and enjoy. Enjoy-- because she takes timeless illustrations and creates a virtual winter wonderland for the eyes in every book she has written and shared with her readers. In Peace on Earth it is traditionally the same as her other books.

But with this book it is entirely focused on the love and wonder of Christmas not to mention why there even is a Christmas season. Mary has collected songs, poems, stories, and quotes that are some of her favorites and shared with us in the hopes that they will become our favorites too. The author has done a marvelous job at making this book one to be treasured for a lifetime.

Review&Giveaway: The Sparkle Box by:Jill Hardie

The Sparkle Box
About the Book:
During the Christmas season, Sam and his parents participate in various acts of kindness to others and record their good deeds on slips of paper to be placed in a sparkly box, as a gift to Jesus.

About the Author:
Jill Hardie is a writer and marketing professional with a great deal of enthusiasm for the Sparkle Box concept. Jill's family started their tradition of giving a gift to Jesus about six years ago; now, the Sparkle Box is the gift they most anticipate opening each year. Jill, her husband, and their two children live in North Canton, Ohio.
Inspired by painters such as Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish, Christine Kornacki was classically trained as a realistic oil painter. She spends her days painting in her studio, which adjoins a charming cafe. She lives in New Haven, Connecticut.

My Review:
Trying to figure out what The Sparkle Box contained as it sit on the mantle above the fireplace puzzled Sam, but he tried to remain as patient as he could. But even as a child's mind wanders, Sam was no different but luckily his mom kept him very busy in the weeks leading up to Christmas. She and Sam donated food, clothing, and blankets to people in need. At the annual Christmas party he and his family donated money to help build a well in a faraway land.

All these good deeds soon taught Sam that many people around us suffer without food and a nice, warm home to live in. Soon it wasn't long until Sam, all by himself had the opportunity to share with someone less fortunate. He gave a man that he had seen before on a park bench something to help him in his time of need. So every time he and is family did something to help someone in need these items were wrote down on tiny bits of paper and placed in a gift box under the Christmas tree as a gift to the Savior.

Small acts of random kindness that seem simple and small are actually a blessing to the Father. If you would like to purchase a copy of this precious book to share with your family you can at this link. I also have to giveaway to one lucky reader. Enter below!

Litfuse Review: Gunpowder Tea by:Margaret Brownley

 Gunpowder Tea
About the Book:
In a case that could change her career, Miranda uncovers a love that will change her life.

When Miranda Hunt sees the classified ad for an heiress to the legendary Last Chance Ranch, she knows assuming the identity of Annie Beckman is the perfect cover. As one of the finest agents for the Pinkerton Detective Agency, Miranda has been tasked with apprehending the Phantom – an elusive and notorious train robber thought to be hiding on the sprawling ranch.

But she isn’t the only one there with something to hide. Wells Fargo detective Jeremy Taggert is working the scene undercover as well. And although their true identities are a secret, it is impossible for Jeremy and Miranda to hide the spark that flares between them.

But neither is about to let romance interfere with such a huge case. Besides, Miranda hasn’t removed Jeremy from her list of suspects yet. The closer they come to uncovering the identity of the Phantom, the more dangerous he gets – and no one on the ranch is safe.

But neither are their hearts – the longer Miranda and Jeremy spends working together, the harder it becomes to keep their feelings in check. Their careers – and their lives – depend on solving this case. Love will have to wait.

About the Author:
Thrills, mystery, suspense, romance: Margaret penned it all. Nothing wrong with this--except Margaret happened to be writing for the church newsletter at the time. After making the church picnic read like a Grisham novel, her former pastor took her aside and said, "Maybe God's calling you to write fiction."

So that's what Margaret did. She's now a New York Times bestselling author and a Romance Writers of America RITA finalist with more than 25 novels to her credit. Her first non-fiction book "Grieving God's Way: the Lasting Path to Hope and Healing" has won much critical acclaim. She is currently working on the third book in her "Brides of Last Chance Ranch series."

Not bad for someone who flunked 8th grade English. Just don't ask her to diagram a sentence.

My Review:
Miranda Hunt is a famous detective in her small town, but it seems not as famous as The Phantom. And she's head to the Last Chance Ranch to catch this mysterious person. Posing as Annie Beckman, she gets a job as a heiress. No one will ever know, but when she meets David Branch something seems to change. He seems also to be a mysterious person, possibly even dangerous. Can she control her feelings, keep everyone safe and nab The Phantom? Or is all going to fall in shambles around her feet?

Jeremy Hunt, is a Wells Fargo Detective and is headed to the Last Chance Ranch. Taking the name, David Branch, he is soon welcomed to the ranch. When he see's Annie, sparks go a  flyin'. He's barely able to keep his mind on his work, much less search for The Phantom, with Annie around. Annie and David may end up having a wrestling match when she causes him a great deal of trouble. But maybe he can keep his identity and get the bad guy before Annie has a chance to mess him up.

Get ready for an amazing encounter with your King!

About the Author:
Best-selling Author, Speaker, Teacher, Humorist

Sheri Rose has a very refreshing way of bringing the Word of God to life. She knows how to renew the Eternal Hope in our hearts. Her speaking style is humorous, heartwarming and inspires every one to make their life count for eternity.

Sheri Rose is a woman who can relate to almost any woman's battle. This former Mrs. United States grew up in a dysfunctional home and was severely overweight as a teen. As a young woman, she battled depression and an eating disorder. She understands the pain that comes from a broken home and she knows what it means to fight for freedom from your past. In spite of an English teacher telling her she was "born to lose" and a learning disorder--Dyslexia--Sheri Rose has (in God's strength) written best-selling books, founded His Princess Ministries and speaks to tens of thousands each year at churches and women's conferences like the Extraordinary Women Tour.

Her Joy for the Lord, humorous heart-warming stories mixed with truth and transparency renews our Faith by reminding us how much we are truly loved and adored by our Father in heaven. Once you heard Sheri Rose speak you will never again doubt that you are..."God's Chosen Princess"... here for a divine purpose!

She lives in Southern California with her husband of 22 years and their daughter.

My Review:
Sheri Rose Shepherd is well known for her His Princess series, not to be out done His Treasure is just as inspiring and touching as the others in the series. Love Letters from our Father designed to gives us faith and hope in this troubled world lest we forget. As always these touching words are bound in the most beautiful book perfect for all us girls. And the pages with their lovely typeset also have beautiful illustrations to accompany them.

Some of the most heart warming words that the Lord sent to us the author has combined into a treasury for us to enjoy daily. My favorite has to be My Hope page 25, "When you don't know what to do, be still long enough to allow Me to calm the storm in your heart and part the sea that seems to lie in the way of My promises for you." Such comforting words in times of trouble, times that can only be tamed by Him.

This book will be a pure delight to your heart. I know to read it helped me oh so much in the day to day struggles I have and I'm sure it will be a big help to you too.

Review: God's Great Plan by:Melissa Cutrera

God's Great Plan by Melissa Cutrera
About the Book:
The story of Creation, Fall and Redemption is the central narrative of the Christian faith. God’s Great Plan uses simple, memorable rhymes to teach this story to young children. This valuable resource helps parents, grandparents, ministers, and teachers to share the gospel with the children in their lives. The color artwork will spark children’s imaginations and give them an entry point into the story, helping them to grasp the significance of God’s plan in their own lives. Anyone who desires to make the gospel more accessible and attractive to children will appreciate this book.

About the Author:
As a missionary kid from Reunion Island, in the Indian Ocean, Melissa Cutrera (M.Div., Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) began serving alongside her parents in her adolescence by ministering to children. In the years since, she has been a nursery director, assistant children’s minister, youth minister, public school teacher, and a French teacher to home school students. She enjoys writing curriculum for children and youth in the local church, and is an avid reader. She also enjoys hiking, board games, visiting museums and parks, playing ultimate frisbee, and discipling teen girls in her home. She is the mother of two young children and wife of a youth pastor husband, living near Salt Lake City, Utah.

My Review:
God's Great Plan, what is it? I tell my children that God's overall plan is that we end up in Heaven with Him when our time on earth is done. We do this by asking Him to forgive us of our sin, ask Him to come into our life, ultimately give up our old life to pick up a life in Him, and follow Him the rest of our days. This book is a precious picture book that you can use to share with children the awesome things that God has done for us and wants to do in us. I personally accepted God into my life when I was a fairly young child but growing up in church is was very simple and easy to accept Him. I tell my children it will be the best thing that you have ever done in your entire life, nothing can compare to following the Lord.

Many times it is hard to live out God's plan in your life because the world is so full of sin. But it is something we must do. The author has done a great job in explaining all that has happened for us to arrive at this point and how trusting His plan is of utmost importance in the midst of it all. The illustrations were done very well and helped to tie everything together so that the message the book contains is received well.

Review: An Amish Family Christmas by:Murray Pura

An Amish Family Christmas
About the Book:
After tragedy strikes the family of young Naomi Miller, her friend Rebecca Bachman does all she can to help. But things get complicated when Rebecca's brother, Micah, returns from a combat tour in Afghanistan. For one thing, he chose to serve in the military even though he served as a medic and never picked up a gun. For another, he is under the Meidung--the shunning-- because of that and none of the Amish are permitted to speak to him or eat with him. And finally, he is not only Rebecca's brother, he is Naomi's husband! But how can Naomi pick up where their marriage left off after he turned away from her and his people to enlist in the army? How can Naomi and Micah even begin the process of healing their relationship when he will not repent of what he has done and the Amish will not forgive him for what he has done?

Naomi despairs of ever again having a happy married life with her husband. But God has a way of working on the hearts of His people--especially at Christmas time. When an unexpected turn of events sets things right, miracles happen to the Amish community, to the Miller family, and to Naomi and Micah, miracles that transform everyone. Here is warm and tender story of faithfulness, love, and reconciliation at the most wonderful time of the year.

About the Author:
Murray Pura was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, just north of the Dakotas and Minnesota. His first novel was released in Toronto in 1988 and was a finalist for the Dartmouth Book Award. Since that time he has published ten more novels, two collections of short stories, and several nonfiction titles including the Zondervan books Rooted and Streams and the Baker devotional Majestic & Wild. He has been a finalist for several awards in the US and Canada and in 2012 won the Word Award of Toronto for Best Historical Novel.

Murray lives and writes in southwestern Alberta and is currently published by Barbour, Baker, Harper One, Zondervan, and Harvest House - he works with publishers in Canada, America, the UK, and Holland. His releases for 2013 include the novels: Ashton Park, The Rose of Lancaster County, A Road Called Love, Seven Oaks, The Painted Sky, Whispers of a New Dawn, Beneath the Dover Sky, The Name of the Hawk, and An Amish Family Christmas. His diverse writing spans many genres including: historical fiction, contemporary fiction, literary fiction, romance, adventure, western, suspense, fantasy, Amish, and inspirational. Most of his work is available in ebook format for Kindle, Kobo, and Nook as well as in paperback.

My Review:
It is all Naomi could just to stand upright much less be kind and forgiving to the Lord for what she felt like He allowed to happen. But her faithful friend, Rebecca, was right by her side to help her pick up the pieces and sort it all out. But it is no wonder this poor girl was beside herself with grief, with her husband gone off to war in Afghanistan, maybe to never return, and her family having a fatal buggy accident with the sole survivor being her brother. She wondered if God was there at all.

But thankfully we have a God that loves to strut His stuff and he proves to this young, married Amish girl and the entire local Amish community that He is indeed a God of miracles and this story proves to be no different. After Naomi's brother returns home from the hospital after the accident he is certainly not himself. The buggy accident left him in a catatonic state, so Naomi and Rebecca take to caring for him. If that wasn't enough Micah returns from the war ready to begin his life again, but the Bishop and the ministers have other plans.

This is the first time I have read a book by Murray Pura and I have to say he is an excellent writer. I read the whole book cover to cover and I found myself in tears and happy, with shouts of victory. This is the perfect book to read during the holidays or anytime.

CFBA Review: Greetings From The Flipside by:Rene Gutteridge

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Greetings from the Flipside
B&H Books (October 15, 2013)
by
Rene Gutteridge

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Rene is the author of seventeen novels. She also has extensive experience writing comedy sketches, and worked for five years as the director of drama for a church. She has a degree specializing in Screenwriting, for which she earned the Excellence in Mass Communication Award, and graduated magna cum laude.

She is married to Sean, a musician and worship leader, and has two children. They reside in Oklahoma, where Rene writes full time and enjoys instructing in college classrooms and writers conferences.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Hope Landon has been rewriting other people's greeting cards since she was six years old -- there's always a funnier caption. She's all set to chase those creative dreams with her musician fiance in New York City until he leaves Hope at the altar, deciding he must not really love this girl if he can't write a song for her. That may give her something to write about . . .

Hope disappears alone on what was supposed to be the couple's month long honeymoon. Upon returning she learns of her funeral -- everyone in her life concluded Hope must have killed herself after being jilted. Needing a fresh start more than ever, she heads for the Big Apple only to discover it's not that easy to rent a place when you've been declared dead.

Taking shelter at the YWCA, Hope soon lands a job at a Christian inspirational greeting card company as an assistant to Jake, a guy who shut down his organization's humor department. She has lost her faith in love; he needs to find something or someone that will make him laugh.

Is there anything in the cards for these two? Find out in the truly original Greetings from the Flipside by authors Rene Gutteridge (Boo) and Cheryl McKay (screenplay for The Ultimate Gift).

If you would like to read the first chapter of >Greetings from the Flipside, go HERE.

My Review:
Hope Landon has been dreaming of the day she get to head to New York and pursue her dream of writing greeting cards. And they was going to come true as of her wedding day. She had her make-up and hair perfect, she could barely contain her excitement. She put her beautiful, tight dress on and was ready to go, when her fiances best man walks in with an envelope. He hands it to her and she automatically presumes it's their wedding license they had recently applied for.But that was a wrong assumption, it's a note from her beloved fiance that would change her life forever.

Jake just has to be the lucky one that Hope's family uses for the flowers for her wedding. The wedding of a girl he's loved for years and wishes she was marrying him. But now he's delivering flowers to the church, when suddenly he sees a woman in a white dress laying in the street with a pool of blood surrounding her. As he runs to her side he sees its Hope. What could have happened to her? When Jake arrives at the hospital he finds out she is in a coma and they don't know when she will wake up or even if she will. But he's not gonna give up on her, so he stays by her side the whole duration of her coma. He talks to her and just does his best to help her wake up.

Hope thinks it's crazy that her mom said she died and even got her a death certificate. But you know how mothers can be. So shes headed to New York as planned and she soon will get that job she has always wanted. But it doesn't turn out to be all it cracked up to be. But soon reality hits her. Literally. Will she wake up? And how will Jake's life turn out? This book is a true page-turner.

Review: Martyr's Fire by:Sigmund Brouwer

 Martyr's Fire (Merlin's Immortals, #3)
About the Book:
Will this dangerous quest lead the outcast Orphan King toward an ancient secret—or to certain destruction?

Posing as a beggar, Thomas escapes Magnus after fifteen men, who are calling themselves the Priests of the Holy Grail, arrive and take control of the castle through wondrous acts and apparent miracles. With the help of his longtime friend Gervaise, Thomas sets out on a journey that leads him to the ancient Holy Land. Unaware that Katherine and Hawkwood are watching over him, Thomas is tested in his beliefs and comes face to face with the ancient power that the Merlins and Druids have long been searching for.

Enter the world of Merlin’s Immortals, where ancient secrets and evil conspiracies take you on a breathless adventure of discovery, intrigue, and hidden knowledge.

About the Author:
With more than three million books in print, SIGMUND BROUWER is the best-selling author of dozens of popular books for children and adults. Over the last two decades, his Rock and Roll Literacy presentation has inspired students and teachers at schools all across North America. Sigmund is married to songwriter and recording artist Cindy Morgan. The couple and their two daughters divide their time between Red Deer, Alberta, and Nashville, Tennessee.

My Review:
Thomas, a nobleman, feels like a prisoner in his own home, so when the Priest of the Holy Grail arrive, he wants to go exploring. These people bring many objects such as the weeping Mary, showing these objects to the people of Magnus, trying to prove they are only full of truth. But Thomas doesn't think them so truthful, so Thomas poses a a beggar. He dresses in filthy clothing, darkens his pale skin, wears an eye patch, and just looks plain dirty. He stays out with the rest of the beggars one night, learning many things about these Priests.

While trying to stay hidden, Thomas is found out by a good friend of his that had no clue he was doing this. The friend told him of the many things that had went on that evening. Learning about the priest had taken over, Thomas had to find Gervaise, who had been his friend for years. After talking to Gervaise, he headed to the chapel as instructed, to pledge his allegiance to the Priest. They soon found out who he was and attacked, Thomas barely escaped. He dropped in a trap door Gervaise told him about, and followed the instructions he was given. But what was he to face in this dark place? Would he make it out alive?

Review: The Christmas Quilt by:Vannetta Chapman

 The Christmas Quilt
About the Book:
Annie's life is deliciously full as the Christmas season approaches. She helps her husband, Samuel, attend to the community's minor medical needs. She occasionally assists Belinda, the local midwife, and most days, she finds herself delivering the buggy to her brother Adam. Annie s sister-in-law Leah is due to deliver their first child before Christmas morning, and Annie is determined to finish a crib quilt before the "boppli" arrives. With six weeks to go, she should have no problem . . . but God may have a different plan. Leah is rushed to the English hospital when the infant arrives early, and Annie discovers the Christmas quilt may hold a far greater significance than she ever imagined.

About the Author:
Vannetta Chapman writes inspirational fiction full of grace. She has published over one hundred articles in Christian family magazines, receiving more than two dozen awards from Romance Writers of America chapter groups. She discovered her love for the Amish while researching her grandfather’s birthplace of Albion, Pennsylvania.

Her novel, Falling to Pieces, was a 2012 ACFW Carol Award winner for best mystery. All of her books have been Christian Book Distributor bestsellers. She currently writes Amish fiction for Abingdon Press, Zondervan, and Harvest House. Chapman lives in the Texas hill country with her husband.

For more information, visit her at www.VannettaChapman.com or blog with her at http://vannettachapman.wordpress.com/. She can also be found at http://www.facebook.com/VannettaChapman.

My Review:
Slipping into a great Amish read with a Christmas twist has definitely been on my list for relaxing this season. You will feel the same way to when you read, The Christmas Quilt by beloved author Vannetta Chapman. She is as sweet and neighborly as her books and writings make you feel. The Christmas Quilt takes you back to the characters from its prequel A Simple Amish Christmas, now three years later with Annie and Leah both expecting. But the story seems to center more around Leah and the hormonal changes she is going through with the twins that are due very soon.

But as the book before it this one is not without some excitement along the way. Vannetta wasn't going to let us off that easily without some sparks, and sparks do fly. Jesse and Mattie show up at Samuel and Annie's home with Jesse in the middle of a health issue. But their teamwork seems to pay off and all seem to make it through. It's not long before we are all enlightened into what is troubling Adam and Leah and my heart just aches for them. Pregnancy is hard enough as it is but when you and your spouse are at odds that brings a special kind of trouble all its own.

Annie has started a baby quilt for Leah that she is sure she will have done before the babies arrive, but things don't really go as planned and Leah has been put in the hospital so the girls finish the quilt together. But that isn't where the story ends at all. The author has done a great job as always and has tied this book up with a neat little bow perfect for the holidays.

Review: The War on Christmas by:Bodie Hodge(editor)

War on Christmas: Battles in Faith, Tradition, and Religious Expression
About the Book:
Filled with family get-togethers, office parties, breaks from school, decorating the tree, and more, Christmas is a time of peace and love. So why has so much controversy clouded this sacred holiday? It has become ground zero in an ongoing culture war where Nativity scenes are mixed, Merry Christmas becomes Happy Holidays, and even the word "Christmas" is considered by some as offensive. Find the truth about Christmas and the Christian's response to a culture that seems to be declaring war.

About the Author:
Bodie Hodge has been a writer, speaker, and researcher for Answers in Genesis since 2003. He writes and speaks on a host of topics including The Fall of Satan and The Tower of Babel. He is passionate about providing biblical answers to believers, seekers, and non-believers.

My Review:
Not long after the birth of our precious Savior, the sinful nature of humankind started to turn back to its nature and with each passing year has forgotten the true reason we celebrate this blessed holiday. The world of commercialism tends to take over in the hearts of many when it comes down to Christmas and all that entails. The author points out several different reasons why everyone is against remembering Jesus in the midst of all the hustle and bustle that we allow Christmas to create. We have taken something very Biblical and put a human spin on it.

While our Lord sits back and I'm sure He is saddened by what he sees in the hearts of all of us and in the hearts of our homes. He gave us a unique gift that we will never ever be able to repay and we honor that gift by allowing things in our hearts that take away from its significance. Bodie Hodge has taken several different myths and ideas and researched them to help us all understand the things that we should accept and those things that truly bring honor to God. Some of these are traditions that should not be done away with unless we really feel it takes away from honoring Him.

He says that bring honor and glory to Jesus should be done every day but for those of us that don't do it every day, bringing Him that honor and glory should be first on our list this holiday season. I also learned from reading the book that even if alot of people out there refuse to say Merry Christmas because for whatever reason they want to remove Christ's name. And in fact decide to use Happy Holidays are really not removing Him like they think because the word holidays actually mean Holy Days. I really thought that, that was a really neat fact.

So this holiday don't forget that Jesus is the reason we even have a Christmas to celebrate!

**Disclosure** This book was provided to me free of charge for my honest review as part of The War on Christmas Insider Team.

Review: Cowgirl Trail by:Susan Page Davis

Cowgirl Trail (Texas Trails #5)
About the Book:
Cowgirl Trail is part of a six-book series about four generations of the Morgan family living, fighting, and thriving amidst a turbulent Texas history spanning from 1845 to 1896.  Although a series, each book book can be read on its own.
In 1884 Maggie Porter returns to the Rocking P Ranch. The sanatorium was not able to save her mother and now her father's health is failing. When the cowboys walk off the job leaving no one to drive the cattle to market, head ranch hand, Alex Bright, cannot convince the men to stay. How could Alex let this happen?
Maggie is desperate to save the ranch and she turns to the town's women for help. The new cowgirls must herd, rope, and drive the cattle to market. With only two days left, outlaws charge the small band of cowgirls in an effort to start a stampede. The cattle begin to scatter. Will they lose everything? Where will their help come from?

About the Author:
Writing this book was a lot of fun, but also a great deal of hard work. I learned a lot about women on the cattle trails while doing my research. Captive Trail, my earlier book in this series, won the 2012 Will Rogers Medallion Award in the Western Fiction category. I hope you enjoy this story of faith, forgiveness, and adventure.

My Review:
Maggie Porter's father owns Rocking P Ranch and he's always treated his ranch hands fairly.  But since she's  returned from a long trip he seems to barely even care about them. He isn't willing to up the ranch hands pay even though he took their cattle. This may just be the beginning of the end for the Rocking P. But Maggie is determined to fix all her father's wrongs and make everything right again. But things may not go as she had planned.

Alex Bright, the head ranch hand at the Rocking P, has known Maggie since she was 13 and is amazed that she is finely back home after being gone for so long. But now isn't the time for welcoming much less rejoicing, the ranch hands are talking about striking. Alex doesn't think that striking will do any good, so he tries to calm the men down. But soon something happens that causes even Alex to go against the boss. Will the Rocking P soon fall apart? Or can Maggie save it?

If you like books that are in a series then this is the series for you. The Texas Trail Series takes you through four generations of the Morgan family. It is a nice series, because you get to catch up on what is going on with this less than boring family. Written by multiple authors each book has different twists and turns that seem to always meet in the middle.

CFBA Review: A Bride For Keeps by:Melissa Jagears

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
A Bride for Keeps
Bethany House Publishers (October 1, 2013)
by
Melissa Jagears

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A Word From The Author:

I am a stay at home mother on a tiny little farm with a fixer-upper house. As much as I love writing and reading about homesteaders, I am so glad I’m a homesteader during an era with modern grocery stores to take up for my slack. I am an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher by trade, and I still work occasionally in that field along with being my church’s financial secretary and writing novels.

My husband and I have been married since 2001 and have a daughter and two little boys. My husband shares my fascination with traditional living except for being more hands on. He loves blacksmithing, knife smithing, traditional archery, hunting, etc. Generally whatever a mountain man does, he does it or has or wants to attempt it. He comes in handy for research! And of course, the rest of the family gets involved. I have my own blackpowder rifle, named Calvin, that my husband made for me. And I’m pretty sure my daughter is probably one of very few her age who can instruct adults how to shoot a longbow properly. The boy digs random holes in my yard to make “cement” with dirt and water making our yard a tripping hazard. The baby does what babies do.

ABOUT THE BOOK

A Tender Tale of Love on the Prairie Perfect for CBA Readers!

Although Everett Cline can hardly keep up with the demands of his homestead, he won't humiliate himself by looking for a helpmate ever again--not after being jilted by three mail-order brides. When a well-meaning neighbor goes behind his back to bring yet another mail-order bride to town, he has good reason to doubt it will work, especially after getting a glimpse at the woman in question. She's the prettiest woman he's ever seen, and it's just not possible she's there to marry a simple homesteader like him.

Julia Lockwood has never been anything more than a pretty pawn for her father or a business acquisition for her former fiance. Having finally worked up the courage to leave her life in Massachusetts, she's determined to find a place where people will value her for more than her looks. Having run out of all other options, Julia resorts to a mail-order marriage in far-away Kansas.

Everett is skeptical a cultured woman like Julia could be happy in a life on the plains, while Julia, deeply wounded by a past relationship, is skittish at the idea of marriage at all. When, despite their hesitations, they agree to a marriage in name only, neither one is prepared for the feelings that soon arise to complicate their arrangement. Can two people accustomed to keeping their distance let the barricades around their hearts down long enough to fall in love?

If you would like to read the first chapter of A Bride for Keeps, go HERE.

My Review:
Everett Cline has tried the whole mail-order bride thing and it didn't really work-out for him. Having tried three times, he wasn't happy to find out that his neighbor has ordered him another. He knows she means well but just doesn't want to go through this again. Maybe this one will be different? He only knew about her the day she came and she was mesmerizing. Beautiful, perfect. She would never come to love him, why was she even here? Surely someone back home thought the same as he did. But she was here now, all he had to do was show her how good of a husband he would be.

Julia Lockwood never thought it would come to her being a mail-order bride and now she was on a train to somewhere in Kansas, she has never been. Many questions fill her mind, like, how's life going to be now? Having never spoke to the man she will soon have to marry, how accepting will he be? He's never even seen her, but today was the day all things would change. Seeing him, was one of the best things that could have happened to her. He was nothing she could have ever imagined, he was perfect. Will this be the best thing that has ever happened to either one of them? Or will they soon fall apart?

Cora has been courting Will for only a little while, so when Pierre proposes a small idea her heart feels a tugging. She knows her father would rather her pick Pierre instead of Will but she knows that she and Will have something. But then again she still has something for Pierre. Review: T-Bone, The Flying Horse by:Janice Virant

t-bone
About the Book:

Little does he know that a lonely, loving girl who adopts him is about to make his dreams come true in a way he could never have imagined. Adults and children alike will cherish this rhyming tale about the ways in which friends change each others lives.

About the Author:
Janice Virant lives in Littleton, Colorado. She grew up on a farm in Chesterfield, Missouri. An avid horsewoman, T-Bone was her adopted racehorse whose beauty and unconditional love inspired this story. When not creating fun rhyming stories about her real-life pets, she works as a registered nurse, rides her horses, hikes with her dogs and husband, cooks, skis, does yoga, and enjoys time with family and friends. She has a BS in nursing and a BA in theatre.

My Review:
Come along and read a  light hearted children's book about a horse that only changed the life of one little girl that chose to adopt him but who also learned of his own magic. T-Bone also gives credit to the girl that changed him too. All T-Bone ever wanted was to become a race horse but they dream seemed almost impossible until a young girl came along to change all of that. She loved him and cared for him. She taught him to leap over tall things and before long he jumped over her rooftop.

It wasn't long until strange things started happening to this sweet horse, he sprouted wings. Soon T-Bone realizing his special gift of friendship wanted to venture out and share it with the world. So leaving the girl, after a fancy sight seeing trip around the world, T-Bone struck out to share his friendship and the magic that little girl created in him.

Mosaics Review: A Light For My Path

Apologia has released a very fun;yet, very poignant book for our little ones starting to learn the alphabet. A Light For My Path is an ABC book based on the 119th Psalm. Getting its name as the longest psalm in the book of Psalms, there are many verses taken from this psalm that many people use in just every day discussions about the Bible or focused around that. Such as "You are my refuge and my shield, I have put my hope in your word, etc. Even the title of the book was taken from Psalm 119:105.

This wonderful book written by Davis Carman, has several unique highlights that not all similar books have. The first one that we are made aware of is that in each picture you will find a familiar element that is highlighted in the pages before it, for example on the "D" page you will find a caterpillar that you would of seen on the "C" page preceding it. My youngest loved this element so much that it wasn't long before he was trying to find each object. In the back of the book the whole119th Psalm is listed along with the Hebrew alphabet which is also a nice added touch.

Our youngest really enjoyed the book, he is just starting to learn the alphabet. He really liked looking in each of the pictures to find the insect, animal, or plant that was in the previous picture. As a mom I loved this book for a number of reasons first it is based on the Bible, secondly because it is teaching my baby his alphabet and how it is related to God's word, and I loved the fact that the book is a meaty book.

This book is available to purchase here for $14.00 and is geared for those children learning the alphabet.

Review: The Christmas Candle by:Max Lucado

The Christmas Candle
About the Book:
Journey back to a simpler time, to a small English village where nothing out of the ordinary ever happens. Except at Christmastime.

When a mysterious angel suddenly appears in a lowly candlemaker's shop, the holy and the human collide in a way that only God could imagine.

Glowing bright with a timeless message, "The Christmas Candle" will warm your heart with a surprising reminder of God's bountiful love.

My Review:
With Christmas in the far off distance, its nice to settle down with a nice, big mug of hot chocolate by a roaring fire with a book full of inspiration that just gives you a good feeling all over. It makes you just wish it was Christmas was here already.

The Christmas Candle does just that. It is a heart warming story of a multi-generational family chosen to good to their neighbors through a visit by an angel that touched a candle that when given away preformed miracles in the lives of the towns people.

Edward Haddington owns the towns local candle shop and he always makes the Christmas candles for the church. One night after a late night of working he is visited by a angel that has a light so bright that it illuminates the room. He watches dumbfounded and amazed as this angel touches one of the candles he has made. When he gives that particular candle to someone at his church, he as well as the entire town is captivated by the life that was transformed as a result of this gift.
