Review: The Mistress of Tall Acre by:Laura Frantz
About the Book:
The American Revolution is finally over, and Sophie Menzies is starved for good news. When her nearest neighbor, General Seamus Ogilvy, finally comes home to Tall Acre, she hopes it is a sign of better days to come. But the general is now a widower with a small daughter in desperate need of a mother. Nearly destitute, Sophie agrees to marry Seamus and become the mistress of Tall Acre in what seems a safe, sensible arrangement. But when a woman from the general's past returns without warning, the ties that bind this fledgling family together will be strained to the utmost. When all is said and done, who will be the rightful mistress of Tall Acre?
Triumph and tragedy, loyalty and betrayal--readers find it all in the rich pages of this newest historical novel from the talented pen of Laura Frantz. Her careful historical details immerse the reader in the story world, and her emotional writing and finely tuned characters never cease to enchant fans both old and new.
My Review:
The American Revolution has ended, it's time to start anew. General Seamus Ogilvy arrives home, after the war, a widower and father to a little girl, who is not yet six. Coming home to Tall Acre should be a wonderful thing, but with a daughter who fears you and a home full of bad memories, what is there to be joyful about?
Sophie Menzies is beyond glad the war has ended, but still she receives hate from those around for the bad choices her father made. Meeting the generals daughter, was probably one of the best things that has happened to Sophie in the past few years. The girl’s manners and kindness make Sophie wish she to had a child like the generals. But when she talks to the general finally after so long, she notices something isn’t quite the same. The joy he use to have isn’t there and my oh my, when did he become so handsome?
As Sophie becomes closer with Seamus’s daughter, he finds himself falling harder and harder for her. When Seamus finally proposes to Sophie and she agrees, the find themselves becoming a happy little. That is until someone from Seamus’s past returns, asking for their rightful place back.
The Mistress of Tall Acre was beyond an amazing read. I enjoy every page of this book. Having read another one of Laura Frantz books, I know this woman has a lot in store for us all. I can not wait to see what happens next.
