Review: The Captive Maiden by:Melanie Dickerson
About the Book:
Happily Ever After ...Or Happily Nevermore? Gisela's childhood was filled with laughter and visits from nobles such as the duke and his young son. But since her father's death, each day has been filled with nothing but servitude to her stepmother. So when Gisela learns the duke's son, Valten---the boy she has daydreamed about for years---is throwing a ball in hopes of finding a wife, she vows to find a way to attend, even if it's only for a taste of a life she'll never have.
To her surprise, she catches Valten's eye. Though he is rough around the edges, Gisela finds Valten has completely captured her heart. But other forces are bent on keeping the two from falling further in love, putting Gisela in more danger than she ever imagined.

My Review:
Gisela has had a crush on the dukes son Valten for a while, looking like a small servant girl she doubts he'll even look her way. But when he invites her to a jousting tournament it seems anything can happen. Thats until her stepmother tells her she isn't going any where, but that doesn't stop her. Arriving at the tournament she is noticed by many men especially Valten. He asks her if he could wear her colors, so romantic. She hopes and prays he is safe during the tournament, but she really wants him to ask her to be his Queen of Beauty and Love. With many of other, richer women want the same thing, will he choose her?
Valten is getting older and knows it's about time to settle down and get married but there is only one girl he's interested in. But will his parents approve? Whats he kidding this girl would never go for him, he wasn't something miss Gisela would look for in a man. She was beautiful, he had many scars and broken features. But when he sees the way Gisella is treated by her Stepmother, he just can't stand by, he needs to make her his so he can take her away. But how? His mother plans a ball, just perfect, the perfect way to get to know her better. That is if she even comes.
