Review: The Inconceivable Adventures of Cabbage Boy, Book One by:Steven London

The Inconceivable Adventures of Cabbage Boy
About the Book:
Ralph Spitzle is a typical nine year old boy, anxiously awaiting summer vacation. Life in a small town provides ample opportunity for biking, goofing and friends, all of which were on the horizon. However, on the night before the start of vacation, an atmospheric event sent an incredibly powerful gaseous orb to Earth that had a remarkable effect on Ralph, and as he will discover, on a mild-mannered restaurant owner. Ralph soon realizes that what most nine year olds find an enjoyable pastime has become an unbridled super power.

Ralph’s now-complicated summer becomes a nightmare when the evil Cabbage Roller arrives. The Cabbage Roller creates havoc at the summer carnival, sending the poor folk of Woobegoon running for their lives. This presents Ralph’s first great challenge, and he is able to muster enough courage to ward off the Cabbage Roller.

The incredible stress on Ralph - caused by these strange powers that he must keep secret - is alleviated by the return of an old friend - Ronnie Sharp - who helps Ralph realize that with mediocre power comes mediocre responsibility. Emboldened, Ralph sets out to learn to control his new ability and use it to defend the town.

About the Author:
Steven London, a boring lawyer by day and children's book author by night, grew up in the Canadian prairies and now resides in Toronto, Ontario. Steven's inspiration for the Cabbage Boy series does not, surprisingly, come from his day job. Having grown up in the 1970's (when kids could ride their bikes all day long at an old landfill), having spent many years working at a children's summer camp ('nuff said), and having three kids of his own, Steven has drawn from his life experiences to create Ralph, his buddies and the strange town of Woobegoon.

My Review:
The life of a 9 year old boy is anything but boring, just ask Ralph Spitzle. Ralph was incredibly excited and looking forward to his long awaited summer vacation. He was that is until some unexplainable things start to take place that cause him to question that  previous notion. Ralph soon realizes that the atmospheric event that has just taken place has caused more than just a slight disruption, it has created powers---super powers.

Poor Ralph, you would think would be excited to know that he would have such power but Ralph soon realizes that it isn't all its cracked up to be. Join Ralph in Book One of the Cabbage Boy series as he tries to redeem his town to its former glory.

This book is perfect for your readers that are starting to read chapter books. This is the first in the series and it is a rather short read, this alone was enough to get my boys motivated to read it. It was a great book and we really enjoyed it.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.
