Review: Playing By Heart by:Anne Mateer

 Playing by Heart
About the Book:
Lula Bowman has finally achieved her dream: a teaching position and a scholarship to continue her college education in mathematics. But when she receives a shocking telephone call from her sister, Jewel, everything she's worked for begins to crumble.

After the sudden death of Jewel's husband, Jewel needs Lula's help. With a heavy heart, Lula returns to her Oklahoma hometown to do right by her sister. But the only teaching job available in Dunn is combination music instructor/basketball coach. Neither subject belongs anywhere near the halls of academia, according to Lula!

Lula commits to covering the job for the rest of the school year, determined to do well and prove herself to the town. Reluctantly, she turns to the boys' coach, Chet, to learn the game of basketball. Chet is handsome and single, but Lula has no plans to fall for a local boy. She's returning to college as soon as she gets Jewel back on her feet.

However, the more time she spends in Dunn, the more Lula realizes God is working on her heart--and her future is beginning to look a lot different than she'd expected.

My Review:
Studying at a college was always Lula Bowman's dream, and after many years of hard work and desperation, she has a teaching position and a scholarship to complete her degree. She thinks she has her whole life ahead of her until she receives a call from her sister, telling her of the recent death of a family member. She has to put everything on hold to race back to Oklahoma.

Chet Vaughn enjoys teaching basketball, nothing has ever made him happier then doing this with his life. After he meets Lula it is more than a little difficult for Chet to focus on the game.Soon after returning to Oklahoma, which seems like for good, to help her sister Lula starts trying to fit into her new role as music teacher slash basketball coach. She soon looks to Chet to help with the basketball portion of this job.

Lula didn't really expect to fall for Chet but it seems to be happening, regardless. She soon turns her focus to the Lord for guidance because her life seems so mixed up, right now. Chet wasn't counting on falling for Lula and he sure didn't expect to receive life changing news either. This news will change everything!

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Bethany House.
