Litfuse Review: A Love Like Ours by:Becky Wade
About the Book:
Becky Wade Is the New Name to Know in Contemporary Romance
Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face. He struggles with symptoms of PTSD, lives a solitary life, and avoids relationships.
When Lyndie James, Jake’s childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion’s reluctance to run.
Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake’s will, Lyndie’s sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he’s built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he’d thought he’d lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?

My Review:
Lyndie James was Jake Porter’s childhood best friend and after moving with her family out of state, they lost the friendship they once had. Now years later, Lyndie and her family have moved back to Texas and she is determined more than ever to get Jake to hire her as a horse exerciser. She had heard of the scar down his face, but the frightening thing about him now is his attitude and striking good-looks.
Jake Porter never expected to see Lyndie again, but now she asks for a job he really doesn’t want her to have. Doesn’t she know how dangerous the job really is? Or more importantly doesn’t she now what her presence does to him? But yet, he unwillingly gives her the job, thanks to his older brother’s persuasion. As he is works closely around her, he notices she stirs something up in him that fires up his PTSD, with images from his Marine days.
Lyndie notices how quiet and reclusive he is, and she becomes determined, with God’s help, to help the man she’s always cared for. She knows it can happen if only he’ll left her in, but how do you get through to a thick skulled man?
Jake knows he will eventually have to face his feeling for her but yet, he knows if he does he will also have to let in somebody he has tried to hide from for so long. But as Lyndie has come to frequently remind him, God is un-reluctant and He knows what is best for Jake, even if Jake doesn’t want to hear it.
A Love Like Ours, is book three in The Porter Family series. As most of my family knows, I adore Becky Wade’s novels, especially The Porter Family Novels. This review really doesn’t do this book justice. Let’s just say I read this whole book in one sitting and still got mad when it ended. Three Porter sibling’s down, one more to go! I am hoping, no, begging for another book in this series!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Litfuse Publicity.
