Review: First and Goal by:Jack Byrne

First and Goal: What Football Taught Me About Never Giving Up
About the Book:
Jake Byrne dreamed of playing professional football. He had the size, the talent, the drive...but at age fourteen, he found out he also had type 1 diabetes.

Still, Jake was determined to reach his goal. And God was determined to guide and empower him all along the way.

Jake's journey to the NFL is the backdrop for this collection of inspiring devotions for teens based on more than 100 football terms. Jake defines each phrase, shares a brief account of his life, includes Scripture, and then ties that all up in way that feels real and very encouraging. You'll discover...what to do when God calls an audible in your life how to respond when God puts you on special teams why prayer is more than a desperate hail Mary

These quick daily readings will help you press through your own difficulties and experience God's dreams for you.

My Review:
God is never far from us and our faith is to grow stronger with each passing second. Jack Byrne knows all too well that sometimes things don't look like they will ever fall into place and what seems to be a dream will always be just that--a dream. God loves us and He is all about giving us the desires of our heart. He wants us to be obedient in what we have been trusted with and to show Him all the glory.

In First and Goal, Jake takes what took him years to meditate on and live by and shares that with others in hopes to motivate, educate, and inspire you to have faith and seek God's will above all else. His book is a great gift for a sports enthusiast to look past the fame and popularity and look to the heart of God and let that lead them.

Jake had a health issue that convinced him that his dream would never come true but as always, God had another plan. A plan much bigger and ultimately better than Jake had for himself.
