My Review:
Carole Roman is always taking us to unforeseen lands and walking us through cultures that many of us will never get a chance to see. It is so much fun working our way through one of her portable field trips. Her latest is no different. The Mali Empire is made up of a tribe that had come under someones rule that was not too terribly favorable towards them and as a result there were many disputes that had to be settled for the people to live peaceably.

Mansa Musa mentioned in the book said it was a good thing for a man to wear and own baggy pants. It was an honor because all of his children to stand behind the legs of the pants and hide. Women were allowed to participate in a funeral there only men. Kola nuts were a big thing in this culture. You gave them to house guests, frequently.

Learning about different cultures, with Carole as your guide is always great fun!

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. All opinions are my own.
