Review:A Wedding for Julia by:Vannetta Chapman

 A Wedding for Julia
About the Book:
A Wedding for Julia, the third book in a romantic series from popular author Vannetta Chapman, takes a last look at the Amish community of Pebble Creek and the kind, caring people there. As they face challenges from the English world, they come together to reach out to their non-Amish neighbors while still preserving their cherished Plain ways.

Julia Beechy is so stunned, she can hardly breathe. Her mother's announcement that she must either marry or move from the family home upon her mother's imminent death catches Julia by surprise. How can she leave the only home she has ever known? What about her dream of opening her own Plain caf

When Caleb Zook offers support, comfort, and a solution, Julia is afraid to accept it. Can she marry someone she barely knows? Is it the right thing to do? Is this God's plan for her future?

Caleb thought his time for marrying was long past, but he feels a stirring in his heart he cannot shake for this beautiful, forlorn woman. Amid the circumstances of this life-altering decision, the people of Pebble Creek weather the worst storm to hit Wisconsin in the last hundred years. Where will Julia and Caleb be on the other side of it?

My Review:
Mrs. Vannetta Chapman has done it again. So far I'm loving the Pebble Creek Amish Series. She described perfectly the main characters and their reactions to happenings all around them so much so that I felt like I was there. A Wedding for Julia is the third book in the series.

Julia Beechy just wants what every person wants-- an identity, a purpose. Something to believe in from day to day that takes her thoughts higher and higher, higher than she ever dreamed possible. But not long after her father's death, her now ailing mother has dashed her dream of opening a cafe in her their home. The words that broke her heart only carried with them her impending doom as she seen it. What good could possibly come of her not doing this?

Her mother, Ada Beechy, informs her of her intentions to see Julia married or after her death Julia will have to move away and live with family in Pennsylvania. This takes poor Julia by surprise because she feels like she has been left out in the cold.

Caleb Zook, is getting on up in years and he feels that his marrying days are behind him. But its long before his feelings for Julia seem to be changing and growing stronger minute by minute. Julia soon finds herself confiding to Caleb about her dream and now how it all has been dashed. When Caleb offers a solution that can change everything. Julia starts to actually consider it. Then if this wasn't enough the people of Pebble Creek start to see winds of change that could alter their future for good.

The author has included discussion questions and some yummy recipes that you will hear mentioned throughout the book.

Review:The Outcast by:Jolina Petersheim

The Outcast: a modern retelling of The Scarlet Letter
About the Book:
Raised in an Old Order Mennonite community, Rachel Stoltzfus is a strong-willed single woman, content living apart from mainstream society until whispers stir the moment her belly swells with new life. Refusing to repent and name the partner in her sin, Rachel feels the wrath of the religious sect as she is shunned by those she loves most. She is eventually coerced into leaving by her brother-in-law, the bishop.
But secrets run deep in this cloistered community, and the bishop is hiding some of his own, threatening his conscience and his very soul. When the life of Rachel’s baby is at stake, however, choices must be made that will bring the darkness to light, forever changing the lives of those who call Copper Creek home.

 Jolina Petersheim
About the Author:
Jolina Petersheim holds degrees in English and Communication Arts from the University of the Cumberlands. Though The Outcast is her first novel, her writing has been featured in venues as varied as radio programs, nonfiction books, and numerous online and print publications. Her blog is syndicated with The Tennessean's "On Nashville" blog roll, as well as featured on other creative writing sites. Jolina and her husband share the same unique Amish and Mennonite heritage that originated in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, but now live in the mountains of Tennessee with their young daughter. Follow Jolina and her blog at http://www.jolinapetersheim.com/.

My Review:
Based on the classic of The Scarlet Letter but with a modern day twist this book just happens to be Jolina Petersheim's first novel. I had never heard of her until this novel crossed my path. But I would have to say that she has a great future ahead of her. Her story created before my eyes a beautiful scene that lead to the richness of the story for me. Rachel Stoltzfus found herself in a very awkward position. She wanted to remain true to her faith and all that meant, but unfortunately in her Old Order Mennonite community it is virtually impossible to be accepted as an unwed mother.

Her twin sister Leah, offered to let her stay with her and her family to give her a place of refuge but Leah's husband was only going to let that last so long before he wanted her to leave. What is she going to do? Where is she going to go? Her own family has turned her away and not only that but she refuses to name the father of the child she will soon bear. Soon God will intervene and cause everyone to choose a side.

CFBA Review: Paige Torn by:Erynn Mangum

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Paige Torn
Think (May 1, 2013)
by
Erynn Mangum

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A few things about her: So, if we were having this conversation in person, we would probably be hanging out at Starbucks or one of the cute coffeehouses in town. I’m nuts about all things coffee, I’m crazy about all things pink and girly, and I love, love, love the Food Network! I’m married to my best friend and the most amazing guy ever, Jon. He is amiable toward coffee, does not like anything pink or girly and tolerates the Food Network. So, we make a good match! In July 2010, we became parents to one of the funniest, cutest, sweetest little guys in the whole world (and nope, we aren’t biased at all!), our Nater-Tot, who is legally known as Nathan. Most days, I’m cleaning up messes, making goofy faces, trying to fit some writing in, and just LOVING the life that God has given me!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Everyone knows they can count on Paige Alder. But between volunteering at church, putting in overtime at work, and helping her best friend plan an anniversary party, she's lucky to grab a cheese stick for dinner. Paige can't even remember the last time she had a few minutes to relax or dig into God's Word. Then she meets laid-back Tyler, an attractive, Jesus-loving guy. Will he be able to help Paige get her priorities on track?

If you would like to read the first chapter of Paige Torn, go HERE.

My Review:
Paige Adler is a glorified secretary at a law firm that she hopes one day will give her a chance to use the law degree she has earned. But until then she has to run the office side of things and run errands. And try to balance her very active life. While trying to do this she is helping her best friend Layla with her upcoming wedding details amongst other things. To top it all off she is very active in her church and is even helping rear young girls there by teaching the 9th grade girl class. When Tyler, someone fairly new to her church steps in to help with the 9th grade boys, things take an interesting turn.

This book is one great book that perfectly describes most twenty something Christian young ladies that seem to have it all together. Paige spends alot of time helping all those around her. But when will she have time for her personal time with God and His word? The main character Paige is very nice and quirky--downright funny. I really enjoyed learning about her life. I can't wait to learn more.

Review:Reading Kingdom

Reading Kingdom

A Little Bit About the Program.... (taken from the website)
The Reading Kingdom teaches children 4-10 years old how to read and write to a third grade level. Before teaching your child to read, the program evaluates each child and places him or her at the appropriate level in the program. This means that the program works for almost all children in this age range including early readers, accelerated readers and struggling readers. Because the Reading Kingdom customizes itself to each child, it's the ideal program for teaching children at all levels how to read and write to the third grade.

 Early Readers
Teach a child to read who is as young as four. Children as young as four who have not yet learned to identify letters or use a mouse and keyboard can learn to read using this program. More advanced readers can use the program to move quickly to a third grade reading and writing level.

 Accelerated Readers
Teach a child to read who already knows the basics of reading. Advanced readers can use the program to move rapidly to a third grade reading and writing level.

 Struggling Readers
Teach a child to read who is struggling. Children who are behind in their school reading curriculum will learn the skills they need to move ahead using this program. Many very bright children are left behind by a school curriculum that fails them. These same kids thrive when they are taught using the Reading Kingdom's comprehensive 6-skill system. The program is also fun to use and success-based, which converts bored and resistant readers into enthusiastic ones. Additionally, the Reading Kingdom is ideal for teaching children who have dyslexia, ADHD and other learning disabilities to read.
Struggling readers
Our Experience:
My 10 year old son did not speak his first words until the ripe old age of three. We were terrified he was deaf. And our pediatrician wanted us to wait until the age of three to have his hearing checked just to be sure he didn't talk by then. So we waited and each day we would encourage him to talk but to no avail our precious baby would only utter three words which were more like gibberish. The three words---- ma, da, & ba, and those were the only words he uttered. So with all the tears cried and all the prayers prayed we made our way to the doctors office to have his hearing checked.

The results were that his hearing was perfect. He had a speech development delay and that hopefully soon he would talk, if not then we would be seeking help with a speech therapist. He spoke not soon after that but his delays are still evident today. He has trouble focusing, has mild dyslexia, and he has difficulty reading. So I jumped at the chance to review Reading Kingdom. We have tried several other programs that are similar but none of them have really helped like this one. The teaching is top notch and he understands it and enjoys it. And best of all I am not really involved, that's right he can do it on his own.

Each day he is always asking, "when can I do my Reading Kingdom?" This is a big change from what my child was like before and I know your child will enjoy it too. It can also be used for beginning readers not just struggling ones. Here is a link to some helpful videos that explain things further.

This program is designed for 4-10 year olds. When you sign up for the Reading Kingdom, you receive a free 30 day trial. After that, subscriptions to Reading Kingdom are $19.99/month (with no monthly minimum), or $199.99 per year (20% off). Additional children in your account get 50% off ($9.99/month or $99.99/year). The creators of the program have made the program safe but not allowing any ads to pop up while your child is on their site. The parent is also sent a weekly report to show your child's progress.

If you would like a chance to win a 6 month subscription to try out Reading Kingdom and see if its a fit for your family now is your chance. Lorrie Flem is hosting a giveaway at this link.
**Disclosure** I received a free subscription to this online program for review purposes.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Cordelia Grace watched Bernard Howard, the love of her young life, go off to fight for our country in WWII. And she has spent the last three years creating the Pine Cone quilt that will grace their marriage bed when he comes home. Each row of triangles signifies a layer in her life, sets of memories, hopes, dreams, and prayers for her future, enough spoken words to cover them forever. Her image of their “happy-ever-after” grows proportionally as the quilt expands.

But is the man that returns from the war, the same man that she remembered? Are the dark shades of color that she had to use for the outside edges of the beloved quilt prophetic of her life to come? Can love and faith overcome all?

If you would like to read teh first chapter of Pieces of the Heart, go HERE.

My Review:
A very endearing story of a woman waiting for her true love to return from war. A wait that lasted for many long years. While she waited she made a quilt-- a quilt of love, togetherness, and waiting. She begins a quilt that is their lives intertwined. She eagerly waits for a love in this man and when he returns home for it all to go back to the way it was before. But something in him is different, something changed.

Cordelia waits for Bernard to return from war. They are not wed till somewhere towards the end of the story. The story has a very historical setting and gives us the view of life from an African American perspective. But to me love is love and Cordelia has the honor, true grace and grit to stand by her fiance and help him through a horrifying ordeal.

The author shows us that true, rich characters full of life. Will Cordelia make it to the altar? Will she be able to get through to Bernard so that they can share the life they both have longed for? Is "Battle Fatigue"
going to drive them apart for good?

Review:Sweet Mercy by:Ann Tatlock

 Sweet Mercy
About the Book:
When Eve Marryat’s father is laid off from the Ford Motor Company in 1931, he is forced to support his family by leaving St. Paul, Minnesota, and moving back to his Ohio roots. Eve’s uncle Cyrus has invited the family to live and work at his Marryat Island Ballroom and Lodge.
St. Paul seemed like a haven for gangsters, and Eve had grown fearful of living there. At seventeen, she considers her family to be “good people.” They aren’t lawbreakers and criminals like so many people in her old neighborhood. Thrilled to be moving to a “safe haven,” Eve is blissfully unaware that her uncle’s lodge is a transfer station for illegal liquor smuggled from Canada.
Eve settles in to work and makes new friends, including an enigmatic but affecting young man. But when the reality of her situation finally becomes clear, Eve is faced with a dilemma. How can she ignore what is happening right under their very noses? Yet can she risk everything by condemning the man whose love and generosity is keeping her and her family from ruin?

Ann Tatlock
About the Author:
Ann Tatlock is the author of the Christy Award-winning novel All the Way Home. She has also won the Midwest Independent Publishers Association "Book of the Year" in fiction for both All the Way Home and I'll Watch the Moon. Ann lives with her husband, Bob, and their daughter, Laura Jane, in Asheville, North Carolina. Learn more at www.anntatlock.com.

My Review:
This story is amazing. It is very tried and true and subtle. I love that about Ann Tatlock's writing. The story begins with a grandmother and grandson looking for something in an old ballroom and lodge. And the grandmother comes all the way back to this establishment that her family lived in years prior. Her grandson asks her to tell him the story of her family moving there in the summer 1931.

She goes on to tell all about the place they lived; St. Paul, Minnesota. Eve's father had lost his job and his brother Cyrus offered him a job. The only catch he and the family would have to move to Ohio. They would have to live and work in Cyrus' business-- Marryat Island Ballroom and Lodge. Eve was so glad to be leaving St. Paul, alot of the reason was because of the crime there. Eve's mother was sad and didn't want to leave Eve's sister, Cassandra now married. But they had to soldier on if they were ever going to make it out of this.

Eve talks about the gangsters of her day and the Great Depression. This is a remarkable story of a little girl coming of age in the middle of a horrible time in history to many families.

ABOUT THE BOOK

With high hopes, Dorothy Ballinger lands her dream job at The New York Times. But it's not long until writing about weddings becomes a painful reminder of her own failed romance, and her love of the city slowly sours as well. Is it time to give up the Big Apple for her small hometown of Appleton?

When her eccentric Aunt Dot passes away and leaves a sizeable estate to Dorothy, going back home is an easy choice. What isn’t easy is coming to terms with the downright odd clauses written into the will.

Dorothy only stands to inherit the estate if she agrees to her aunt's very specific posthumous terms -- personal and professional. And if she fails to comply, the sprawling old Victorian house shall be bequeathed to . . . Aunt Dot’s cats.

And if Dorothy thinks that’s odd, wait until she finds out an array of secrets about Aunt Dot's life, and how imperfect circumstances can sometimes lead to God's perfect timing.

If you would liketo read the first chapter of Lock, Stock and Over a Barrel, go HERE.

My Review:
Life is always easy when you are truly convinced that you have it all under control. Daphne Ballinger thought she did have it all under control. But after moving to New York to put her degree in journalism to work for her things didn't quite go as she had planned. She thought that she would only share an apartment with her room mates for less than a year and then be making enough money to own her own home. But thirteen years later no such luck.

Daphne worked at the New York Times as a wedding writer. Things had been going along fairly well for, or as well as can be expected when she received the call from her father that her Aunt Dee had passed away. She started to recall the summers she spent at her home, as a child while her father would be busy at work. Daphne's mom has passed away when she was a small child so her Aunt would care for her when needed.

Well Daphne goes to help her father with the arrangements and finds out that Aunt Dee has left her, her home but everything is contingent on certain things she will have to do. Follow Daphne as she works her way through this dilemma.

Review:REIGN The Chronicles of Queen Jezebel by:Ginger Garrett

Reign: The Chronicles Of Queen Jezebel (Lost Loves of the Bible #3)
About the Book:
Beyond the Drama, Her Heart Was Real
From the moment her marriage to prince Ahab thrusts her into the intrigues of palace life, Jezebel’s exotic beauty opens doors and her will breaks down walls. Torn from her homeland and wed to power in a strange country, Jezebel vows to create a legacy and power all her own. Some might call her a manipulative schemer, bent on having her way. But they don’t know the whole story, and she was much, much worse. As she moves through the halls of power, her heart struggles between devotion to the gods she worships, the prince who loves her, and her thirst for revenge. She sparks a battle between her strangely powerless gods and the God of palace administrator Obadiah—a God who confronts her with surprising might. She will fight, though victory may cost her everything.

My Review:
The story of Jezebel and Ahab may be an interesting one. But the way the author has taken the story from the Bible and expanded on it, really has left some rather frightening images in my mind.

Jezebel was an idol worshiper of the gods- Baal and Asherah. She believed that she was to sacrifice babies to these gods and that all people in the Phoenician Empire do the same. The thought of precious babies being done that way is just indescribable to me. I don't think or cant even imagine having that mind set. Let alone stand by and watch it take place.

I believe her evil ways were just a reflection of something that went terribly wrong in her life or maybe her mind. The book begins with a terrible death in her family and her thoughts and feelings in that. And then we fast forward four years to her impending marriage to Prince Ahab. The descriptive way and grand imagery that the author creates made all the scenes in this novel feel like a movie. It was a very interesting take on such a evil character, but someone who intrigues us even today.

Review:Gone South by:Meg Moseley

 Gone South
About the Book:
The charm of the South drew her back to her family’s roots. But when the town’s old resentments turn the sweet tea bitter, can Tish find a welcome anywhere?

Leaving frosty Michigan for the Deep South was never a blip in the simple plans Tish McComb imagined for her life, dreams of marriage and family that were dashed five years earlier in a tragic accident. Now an opportunity to buy her great-great-great-grandparents’ Civil War era home beckons Tish to Noble, Alabama, a Southern town in every sense of the word. She wonders if God has given her a new dream— the old house filled with friends, her vintage percolator bubbling on the sideboard.

When Tish discovers that McCombs aren’t welcome in town, she feels like a Yankee behind enemy lines. Only local antiques dealer George Zorbas seems willing to give her a chance. What’s a lonely outcast to do but take in Noble’s resident prodigal, Melanie Hamilton, and hope that the two can find some much needed acceptance in each other.

Problem is, old habits die hard, and Mel is quite set in her destructive ways. With Melanie blocked from going home, Tish must try to manage her incorrigible houseguest as she attempts to prove her own worth in a town that seems to have forgotten that every sinner needs God-given mercy, love and forgiveness.

 Meg Moseley
About the Author:
Although I’ve lived more than half my life in other states, I grew up in California and am still a California girl at heart. I love vintage bungalows, twisted oaks on rolling hills, and the rocky beaches of the Central Coast. A few blocks away from home stood the Lutheran church where I came to faith, first through Sunday School teachers whose kindness drew me to the kindness of God, and then through confirmation classes. The Bible verses that had been drilled into my head came to life in my heart.

After moving away from home as a teenager, I worked at a variety of jobs, from candlemaker in a tourist town to administrative assistant at a Christian college. I married a wonderful man from Michigan, and we lived north of Detroit for seventeen years. That’s where we started homeschooling our three children, a journey that we finished in Georgia when our youngest graduated from high school in 2009.

My husband and I live near Atlanta, close to the foothills of the Southern Appalachians. His motorcycle often carries us to the mountains of Georgia, Tennessee, or the Carolinas. Sitting on the back of the bike, I can pray, enjoy the beautiful views, and plot new stories. Fiction makes my world go ‘round, whether I’m writing it or reading it.

My Review:
For as long as Tish McComb could remember her now passed on father always was on the road in search of something. He was a dreamer that would go on some wild goose chase to find what he would consider a treasure. So this was not news to her, when while her mom was cleaning out her house to get ready for a big move to Tampa, Florida  she found the family heirloom called the "McComb Letters" . These letters had been handed down through their family for generations.

Tish was never able to see them let alone touch them while her father was still among us but now that her mom found them they were passed down to her. These letters were written by her great great grandmother to her mother after a move from Ohio to Alabama sometime just after the Civil War. She proceeds to do an online search for the house and it is realized that it is up for sale. So she decides to make a trip there to see the old house that her great great grandmother inhabited in Alabama all those years ago.

So while on this trip Tish has come to realized alot of things. Things about her family and things about herself. She starts feeling like God maybe trying to lead her down another road that she didn't anticipate.

Book Blast: At The End Of Our Journey by JACK R EAST JR - $50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway!

TITLE: Book Blast: At The End Of Our Journey by JACK R EAST JR {June 18, 2013} - $50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway! End of Our JourneyAt The End Of Our Journey By: JACK R EAST JR

About the Book

At the End of Our Journey is a personal testimony of the life and Christian faith of the author. The inspiration for the book came from two incredible and powerful dreams about Jack's Christian faith. The dreams were experienced in November of 2010 on two consecutive mornings. Jack awoke from both dreams with precise and detailed memories of the events and emotions felt during the dreams. He can recall all of the events of both dreams two years later. To be able to remember all of the details of both dreams is very unusual for him and for most other dreamers. The two dreams did not reveal anything new about his Christian faith. The first dream expressed all of the doubts, fears, and questions that all followers of the Christian faith have asked themselves many times. The second dream was a direct confirmation from God that all of the promises of the Christian faith are true and will happen for all who believe in Christ's redemption and follow his teachings. Words cannot adequately describe the events and emotions of the second dream. The author has difficulty finding words to describe the emotions experienced in his dreams, but he can share the following conclusions about his dreams and the Christian faith with you.
He experienced the finality of knowing that he had died. He knew the joy of knowing that his Christian faith allowed him to conquer death. He felt hope and joy to know that his spirit had conquered death and was rising into Heaven.
He was overcome with joy, peace, contentment, fulfillment, and the sure knowledge that the only place he could possibly be was in Heaven. No other place could feel so good and right. He cannot adequately describe how it felt to know that God was there to welcome him to Heaven where he heard his powerful and loving voice say to him,
"Jack, I am glad you are here, I have been waiting for you."
How could he describe hearing God's welcome end with the following words...
"but, I am not ready for you yet."
At the End of Our Journey is Jack's attempt to share with you the wonderful experience of his life, dreams, and Christian faith. His wish is that you may also know the joy of the personal presence of God in your life and feel the full depth and beauty of His powerful love. And that you may receive a taste of what awaits for us at the end of our journey of Christian faith.
Jack EastJACK R EAST JR Jack was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in September of 1940. In 1945 his family moved to Southern California where he lived for 30 years. He started his journey of Christian faith in 1956 at the age of sixteen. Jack married his wife Barbara in 1961 and their marriage has lasted for over fifty years. Jack started his career as a CPA, and he and Barbara started their family while living in Southern California. Jack and Barbara moved to the far north coast of California in 1975. Jack continued to work at his accounting and tax practice as he and Barbara raised a family of three great sons. Their boys and their spouses have provided them with four precious grand children. Both family and the Christian faith have always been important parts of the life of Jack and Barbara. At age 72, Jack is still working at his accounting and income tax practice with Barbara's help. Retirement is under consideration, but it is not their greatest priority at this time. In November of 2010 Jack experienced two incredible dreams about his Christian faith. The dreams were the inspiration for writing a book and for this website. The dreams have started a new chapter in the life and Christian faith of Jack R. East, Jr. at age 72.

Gabby Mom Review:For Women Only by:Shaunti Feldhahn

For Women Only, Revised and Updated Edition: What You Need to Know About the Inner Lives of Men

About the Book:
Discover the Truth He Wants You to Know

The man in your life carries important feelings so deep inside he barely knows they’re there, much less how to talk about them. Yet your man genuinely wants you to “get” him—to understand his inner life, to know his fears and needs, to hear what he wishes he could tell you.

In her landmark bestseller, For Women Only, Shaunti Feldhahn reveals what every woman—single or married—needs to know. Based on rigorous research with thousands of men, Shaunti delivers one eye-opening revelation after another, including:
• Why your respect means more to him than your love.
• How he feels deep inside about his role as provider.
• What it means for a man to be so visually “wired.”
• Why sex for him is primarily emotional, not physical.
• What he most wishes he could say to you.

Now, in this expanded and updated edition, you’ll find insights from the latest brain research plus an all-new chapter that shows what’s really going on when he seems to “check out.” (You’ll be surprised and pleased.)

Millions worldwide have experienced dramatic change in their relationships because of the “aha” moments and practical ideas in this little book. Discover how to love your man for who he really is.

My Review:
Alot of times we as women think that we have men all figured out. But I think that nothing could be farther from the truth. Through a series of survey questions the author of For Women Only, Shaunti Feldhahn feels like she has unlocked a virtual treasure trove of goodies on the subject of "men". Her book includes things we didn't realize about them-- their inner workings and feelings that we may not have known or even realized they had.

The author has written this book to help us understand the men in our lives so much more better and to see them for more of who they are than what we feel they want from us. That they are actually just as vulnerable as us in certain situations and yes, maybe even a little emotional which is a sharp contrast to what many of us believe.

After being with my husband for close to twenty years now, many of the points the author discusses we have discovered through trial and error. But as the good Lord has given me grace my husband has also done so by giving me time to figure all this out. But if I had discovered this book sooner it is very possible that it would of saved me alot of time and heartache.

To not leave us women unaccounted for the author and her husband have also co-written a book for men to read. Below I have listed the summary for that book:
For Men Only, Revised and Updated Edition: A Straightforward Guide to the Inner Lives of Women
Finally, you can understand her!If you’re like most men, you’ve burned up lots of energy trying to figure out what a woman wants, what makes her tick, how to make her happy.

The good news: success is simpler than you ever thought.  In their groundbreaking classic, For Men Only, Jeff and Shaunti Feldhahn reveal the eye-opening truths and simple acts that will radically improve your relationship with the woman you love. For example:
·   Why she can’t “just not think about” something that’s bothering her
·   How to get her real answers without games
·   How your provider instinct can actually cause her heartache – and what to do about it
·   Why “not tonight, honey” may not mean what you think
·   Why listening to her feelings is so hard for a guy, and a fix-it plan that works
·   Why her “I do” at the altar will always mean, “do you?” and the answer that rocks her world

Now updated with the latest scientific research to explain the fabulous female brain plus an all-new chapter that shows how to decode her most baffling behavior, For Men Only is your road-map to making her happy.

Adventures In Odyssey A.C.T.S. of Service

       Unleashing Imagination

cid:image001.png@01CE4D58.632DA680Theme: Imagine creative and fun ways to serve using your unique gifts!
Children are spending more and more time in front of TVs, iPads, computers, and video games. That doesn’t leave much room for kids to dream up their own visual images—like the ones that fill their minds when they hear a great story! Rather than passively receiving images, kids actively engage in making images themselves when they hear a good story. Their imaginations are enriched and stimulated, and the material becomes more personal and memorable.
Adventures in Odyssey is all about great stories—and the power of the imagination. The beloved audio dramas are heard on over 700 radio stations, and AIO has recently expanded to books and devotionals—including The Imagination Station series, a fast-growing line of early chapter readers. You can check them out by downloading a FREE e-book of Imagination Station #1: Voyage with the Vikings!

This summer, Adventures in Odyssey encourages kids to write their OWN stories, as they join in ACTS: A Call to Serve! AIO is helping children use their imaginations to serve their family, community, and world this summer—maybe by sending a care package to a missionary or baking cookies for the local fire department. Check out www.whitsend.org/acts  for details and a chance to win fabulous prizes, including a mission trip with a parent to Costa Rica! You can also download your very own ACTS "Summer of Service Kit" at this link.
More important than prizes are the stories your child will tell about the creative ways they served others, and how they grew as a result. And what they come up with really might change the world!

A Creative Story of Service
Fourteen-year-old Matthew, a dedicated Adventures in Odyssey fan and natural tech whiz, was inspired by a trip to the Apple store to create a smartphone app for his church. Since then, he has created 21 apps for different ministries, including his local pregnancy resource center, Joni and Friends (an international ministry for people with disabilities), and even an “Adventures in Odyssey Fan News” app! Matthew used his God-given talents and imagination to bless others through technology. Which of your kid’s unique gifts are waiting to be unleashed for God’s use?

Review:The Lifestyle Of A Prophet by:James W. Goll

The Lifestyle of a Prophet: A 21-Day Journey to Embracing Your Calling
About the Book:
 Accessible Guide from Bestselling Author
for Embracing the Prophetic Calling
Internationally respected prophet and bestselling author James W. Goll offers a readable, practical approach to the prophetic gifting. Centered around a unique, hands-on 21-day guide, he helps believers develop the intimacy with God essential to hearing his voice clearly and correctly--and then proclaiming his words faithfully.
Through illustrations from his own life and those of John, Daniel, and Ezekiel, Goll exposes common misconceptions, the successes and failures of gifted people throughout church history, and wisdom from the trenches of the prophetic. Devotional prayers and reflection questions follow each chapter. A must-have resource for those in prophetic ministry and all who work with them.

About the Author:
Dr. James W. Goll is the co founder of Encounters Network, a ministry to the nations. He has written fifteen extensive Bible study guides and is the author or coauthor of fourteen books, including The Prophetic Intercessor and Praying for Israel's Destiny. Goll is a contributing editor to Kairos magazine and speaks and ministers around the world. He lives in Franklin, Tennessee.

My Review:
James W. Goll, a prophetic leader in his own right, has put together a 21 day guide to embracing the call that God has placed on your life. He takes you step by step through a more thorough learning of a few of the  different prophets in the Bible and examines their thought process, devotion, and relationship to the Almighty.

In this day and time it is evident that we all need others that know the dramatic toll that this places on our lives and they are willing to step forward and show us how to uphold what God is asking and leading us to do. For without spiritual leaders that are stepping out all will truly be lost. The authors through teaching makes me want to seek out this calling even more.

The author has sorted through several prophetic truths and broken them down to make it easier to understand and discern. Then provided further insight from his own thoughts and experiences then sums up each daily reading with prayer and final questions&thoughts.

**Disclosure** This book was provided to me at no charge for my honest review from Chosen Books.

Review:A Place To Belong by:Lauraine Snelling

A Place to Belong (Wild West Wind, #3)
About the Book:
The Exciting Conclusion to Lauraine Snelling's WILD WEST WIND Series
As winter settles over the ranch, the Engstrom brothers are much on the mind of Cassie Lockwood. The way Lucas smiles at her should set her heart to tripping. But it doesn't. Shouldn't there be some attraction to him if they are going to be married? His vow to make her love him does not seem to be working, no matter how considerate and charming he is.
Ransom Engstrom is another matter. After Cassie's train trip to a shooting competition, she realizes she misses Ransom more than Lucas. And then there's the look she caught Lucas sending Betsy Hudson at church one Sunday. Are she and Lucas drifting apart?
Meanwhile, Ransom has discovered that he cares for Cassie but can't bring himself to express his true feelings to her. When she leaves to join a Wild West show for the summer, will Ransom summon the courage to go after her?

Lauraine Snelling
About the Author:
Lauraine Snelling has been writing since 1980, with a total of 56 books published, both fiction and non-fiction, historical and contemporary, for adults and young readers. Lauraine's books consistently appear on CBA bestseller lists and are frequently featured in the Crossings Book Club. Lauraine and her husband, Wayne, live in California and have two grown sons.

 My Review:
Lauraine Snelling, is a beloved fictional writer that can transport you to another time and place. And before long you feel like you are within the pages of her novels. A Place To Belong is no different. A Place To Belong is the third and final book in the Wild West Series and begins with Cassie Lockwood with alot on her mind. With all she has been through no wonder she is apprehensive about this day.

The thoughts of that night have never left her mind. The men involved had an awful hate for Indians and with liquor ingested and that strong hate for Indians it doesn't take much to see that its just not a good combination. In one fail swoop these men managed to steal everything from her. And now is the time for her to get the justice she deserves.

Sometimes God's ways and our ways don't exactly coexist. In this story I feel like Cassie was just trying to make sense of it all. She couldn't understand why when it seemed she was finally putting down some roots that this would happen. Follow Cassie on what seems to be her final hoorah. See who will remain with her through this next hurdle.

Mosaics Review: How Do We Know God Is Really There? by:Apologia

How Do We Know God Is Really There?

This book is a great picture book to introduce to your children that there is a world beyond what they see and that God made all of it, including us. I read the book to my children and they enjoyed it thoroughly. My boys ages 10&7 understood the subject matter and the way it was presented, perfectly.

This book addresses the fact that the main character Thomas was faced with an issue that though very common among our world today many children are not faced with it at such a young age. The issue--- does God exist? I know my boys haven't known any other option. But I sure am glad I can be the one to explain it to them. Thats what this book is all about. How to think through this question and how to answer it when faced with it.

 Book Summary:
Thomas and his father escape to their backyard tree house most evenings to watch the night sky through a telescope. Thomas is dazzled by what he sees of God’s creation, but he has questions. “Dad, how do we know God is out there?” he asks one night. “I know the Bible says He’s there. But how do we really know that’s true?” Together, Thomas and his father begin to examine the cosmological evidence for God’s existence.

This is the first in an exciting new series of picture books designed to introduce kids to important questions of the Christian faith in terms even pre-readers can understand. Read this aloud with your family, and you’ll come away knowing that “the heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalm 19:1).

This book was a great conversation starter for our boys and this will help them address the subject matter if ever confronted with it. The retail price for this book is $16.00 and can be purchased at this link. Apologia is the publisher of How Do We Know God Is Really There, and this is the first book in the series that addresses very simple, yet complicated questions in the Christian Faith easy enough for the youngest of readers to understand.

Review:The Spiritual Warrior's Guide to Defeating Jezebel by:Jennifer LeClaire

Cover Art
About the Book:
Is Jezebel bending you to its will?
What is the "spirit of Jezebel"--and what influence does it have on your life? Despite decades of teaching on this subject and specific warnings in the Old and New Testaments, the Church is still being distracted from her endtime purpose. This high-level principality fools sincere believers into directing their prayer power against controlling individuals in their midst, while the real enemy and its real purpose remain hidden.
Through Scripture, prophetic insight and practical experience, Jennifer LeClaire roots out the underlying workings of this evil spirit. Manipulation and control are just surface-level fruit. The devil's deeper agenda, she explains, is idolatry and immorality.
If you are a believer, then you are already being baited by this seductive spirit. This guidebook shows you how to identify the true enemy and engage in effective warfare. Here are the weapons you need to battle the Jezebel deception--and win.

My Review:
I never really realized until after reading this book that the somewhat common spirit of Jezebel is alive and well in many of our churches. I don't know why but it just never dawned on me. The author in her book, The Spiritual Warrior's Guide to Defeating Jezebel takes us down the road to the background behind the beast, if you will. She begins by pointing out that the obvious Jezebel spirit may not be the person in your church that is the overbearing and really strong personality that is the gossiper but more often than not the one that would slip in under the radar. The one that is well liked by everyone. Apparently that is how she operates.

The author goes on to say that while Jezebel wields the weapons of control and manipulation, she is not the spirit of control. She is in essence the spirit of seduction. She is extremely crafty and knows who to make her victims. The author states that even the biggest most active churches can be attacked and her spirit succeed in taking them down. Luckily for us the author has researched and found a way to identify this spirit and shows us how to pinpoint her and guard ourselves and our church against her and her evil ways.

Review:Novare Physical Science by:John D. Mays

Photo: The new cover image for Novare Physical Science
Recently, I had the opportunity to review this text from Novare that is a Christian based Physical Science geared for 6-8th graders. In today's world with so many things trying to get us to turn away from God. It is very refreshing to finally have many curriculum sources pointing us to Him. That is exactly what the creator of this text would like to keep on the forefront.

Here is more from John Mays and his approach:

KINGDOM PERSPECTIVE

We reject today’s artificial conflict between faith and science. We affirm Jesus Christ as the center of all things. He is the Lord of all Creation, the one “by whom all things were made” and in whom “all things hold together” (Colossians 1). There can be no inherent conflict between faith in the One who made the world, and study of the world He made. There can only be conflict between the faith claims of those who believe in Him and those who do not.

The conflict we constantly hear about today is fueled by the irresponsible attitudes held by people on both sides of the conflict. Many Christians approach science with suspicion, leery that science contradicts the Bible, or worse, that it is the tool of an atheist agenda. Many non-Christians make the equally foolish mistake of claiming that science shows that there is no God. In fact, the reverse is the case.

The new paradigm we advocate includes significant changes to the ways teachers think and talk about the relationship between science/mathematics and the loving Creator who not only made everything, but gave creation to us as an amazing gift. God’s fingerprints are everywhere for those who have eyes to see them. In fact, we are today witnessing such a torrent of evidence for design in creation that we regularly read of physicists, biologists and philosophers who are turning from atheism to the recognition that the world we have could not have gotten here by itself.

We must help our students to see these fingerprints of God. We live in an endlessly fascinating and mysterious world, where not only do “the heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies proclaim his handiwork,” but so do atoms, lemurs, DNA, Fermat’s Last Theorem, the integrity of scientists, the transparency of our atmosphere and the Higgs Boson. This beautiful world, this breathtaking gift of God, is loaded with potential we haven’t even dreamed of yet!

Winter's Past (2nd Chance Series) By Mary E Hanks

About the Book:

Ty wants to make things right. Winter can’t forget their past. Winter Cowan is scheduled to speak in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. A city she’s avoided for ten years because of Ty Williams, her ex-husband. But what are the chances of Ty showing up in church? And didn’t she already forgive him? Even though he broke her heart and ruined their short, six-month marriage? She had to forgive him to go on with her life. To preach the gospel. To share God’s love across the nation. Then, like a tidal wave, the word "Forgive" crashes over the worn sands of her past. Winter realizes her heart does still rip a little each time she remembers what Ty did to their marriage. To her. And just as she feared, Ty shows up at the meetings in Coeur d'Alene. Only this man is someone she wouldn’t recognize if she saw him on the street. He’s older, sure, but he’s…different. Radically changed from the guy she once knew, he stands before her in a prayer line, crying—crying!—and humbly asks her forgiveness. This man who broke her heart, betrayed her, is now gut-wrenchingly sincere in his apology, prays for her like a long-lost friend, tenderly reaches into the forgotten places of her heart, and he has a request. One unbelievable request that could change everything...
