Review: Luca Lashes Visits Mommy in the Hospital by:Nicole and Damir Fonovich

Luca Lashes Visits Mommy in the Hospital (Luca Lashes, #8)
About the Book:
Is Mommy sick? Does Daddy need to have surgery? How do you help children get through their first time visiting a parent in the hospital? Join Luca Lashes as he finds out how! This is a multilingual, educational, interactive, audio app that continues the Luca Lashes series about children experiencing their ‘firsts.’ It is available in Chinese, English, French, Italian and Spanish.

This app is the eighth in the series based on Luca Lashes, the Brown-Eyed Boy with the Magic Eyelashes! Luca is visiting his Mommy in the hospital where she has to spend the night. Join Luca in this interactive adventure as he experiences the sights and sounds of a typical hospital. Children will enjoy watching the hospital come alive as they touch different areas of the interactive screen. The app also contains suggestions for parents to help them prepare their children for a potentially difficult event.

The Luca Lashes series is intended for children under four. To help children learn to read, individual words are highlighted as the story is narrated.

We combine the original text with lively, age-appropriate artwork and audio. This combination creates an entertaining and interactive learning experience. Try our app in many languages. It is never too early to fall in love with language!

About the Author:

NICOLE FONOVICH, M.ED, is a tech-savvy mom blazing a new trail in children's publishing.

Young readers are at the dawn of a new era where eBooks meet interactive apps, and discovery takes many shapes. That's where Nicole, both a children's eBook author and app developer, is becoming a pioneer.

In one year, she expanded a seedling book idea into an award winning multilingual line of 36 eBooks and corresponding apps.
The co-author and co-creator of "Luca Lashes" eBooks and apps, Nicole is also the president of Luca Lashes, LLC, where she oversees company operations--from art and story development to functionality on multiple technological platforms.
With her husband, Damir, she created the series for their son Lucas, as a way to help him conquer his "firsts" with courage and confidence. Lucas and his real-life adventures continue to be the inspiration for the fictional "Luca" stories.
Nicole has a Bachelor of Arts in leadership and advocacy from Kendall College in Evanston, IL, and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in educational policy and Leadership from Marquette University in Milwaukee.

While serving in the field of Financial Aid Administration for the last 15 years, Nicole has assisted students in every capacity, including her last post as Director of Financial Aid at Touro University in California. Nicole's professional experience runs the gamut in several fields, from management and education to website development.

DAMIR FONOVICH serves in many facets of the family company. Aside from the dual roles of husband and dad, he is also co-author, Italian translator, and English and Italian narrator. As Vice President of Content Development, Damir works hand-in-hand with his wife, Nicole, to help write Luca's story.

When he's not parenting or spinning children's stories into other languages, he's working the brick and mortar side of publishing as a bookseller at Barnes & Noble.

Born in the U.S., but with roots in Croatia and Italy, Damir attended the University of Illinois-Chicago, and received a Bachelor's of Science in marketing and finance. From there, he completed graduate coursework in Child Psychology and Student Counseling at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He also completed a Teacher Certification program at Touro University in California, and taught fourth grade.

Damir has worn many hats in the book industry: writer, Internet content editor, and teacher. His love of writing, education and family has combined in the ultimate way in this latest endeavor.

Nicole and Damir split their time between Chicago and Phoenix.

My Review:
This book is a sweet book describing how Luca deals with the fact that he most favorite person in the entire world, his mommy, is in the hospital. His parents try to make him feel better just as he does by closing his eyes and using his magic eyelashes to help him feel better. The Luca Lashes series follows a very young boy and how he handles the world all around him. The book also has helpful suggestions for the parents regarding this subject. There are also other language versions available.

This book can be very helpful to children that are having a hard time figuring out why any one that they loved and cared about would be in the hospital. It is very hard for a young child to understand why their loved one has to be away from them in the first place and it also makes them very afraid. The Luca Lashes series, especially this book in particular can be used to ease their fears.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the publisher.
