Review: Elementary Astronomy:The Universe by:DeRosa/Reeves

About the Book:
A positive experience of astronomy and the Creator that is hands-on!
Through simple experiments and fact-finding problems, the new Investigate the Possibilities astronomy curriculum brings to light God's design of this massive and intricate universe. Students will:
  • Read about the historical discoveries of great scientists of the past like Kepler, Galileo, and Newton, and how their words impact us today
  • Explore astronomy from the first observations of space, the creation of the telescope, the history of flight, and more
  • Be encouraged in their faith, reading Scriptures that highlight God's magnificent hand in creation.
The Universe: From Comets to Constellations helps students become engaged in the scientific process through their own natural curiosity. Using everyday household items, the inexpensive experiments help bring science to life.

About the Author:
Tom DeRosa is an experienced science teacher and a committed creationist with a wealth of experience in the public school, Christian school, and homeschool markets for over 35 years.
Carolyn Reeves retired after a 30-year career as a science teacher, finished a doctoral degree in science education, and began a new venture as a writer and an educational consultant.

My Review:
Most children are so fascinated with the world around them that they want to learn and soak up all they can. And when they grow up looking into the nighttime sky at the moon and the stars, their excitement builds so much so that they want to learn as much as they can. My children have always just as much as I am sure many of your own children have had, this desire to look through the lens of a telescope to view the world that seems so far from them. As homeschool parents we can also provide for them a deep understanding and learning of the place that seems so mysterious. Perfect for elementary aged children Master Books has a great teaching tool in the Elementary Astronomy line of products entitled, "The Universe". The Universe takes the children through an investigative process to learn more about God's wonderful creation.

Each investigation follows several different steps to reaching the knowledge of knowing all they can about said subject. And the subjects can range from the history of flight to the constellations--the possibilities are endless and the universe is vast--so there are many new and exciting things to learn. But that is not all that the children are left with, they get a unique advantage of performing experiments to go along with their investigation of the world around them. Not to worry, the experiments are simple to do and require household products that you use every day.

Not only do you get a real good, easy hands on science curriculum for your child, there is also a teachers guide, as well as a student journal available. Through the investigative process in each of the books the children are led to questions which will lead to a deeper discussion and knowledge of teaching them a more thorough understanding in the learning process.
