He made himself an island until something unexpected washed ashore. When Holton lost his wife, Adele, in a freak accident, he shut himself off from the world, living a life of seclusion, making drifwood sculptures and drowning his pain in gin. Until twenty-three-year-old Libby knocks on his door, asking for a job and claiming to be a friend of his late wife. When he discovers Libby is actually his late wife’s illegitimate daughter, given up for adoption without his knowledge, his life is turned upside down as he struggles to accept that the wife he’d given saint status to was not the woman he thought he knew.

Together Holton and Libby form an unlikely bond as the two struggle to learn the identity of Libby’s father and the truth about Adele, themselves, and each other.

My Review:
Libby Slater, lived 23 years, never knowing that her mother was hiding something. Being told she was adopted a few weeks before her wedding, Libby finds herself on the doorstep of Holton Creary---the drunken husband of her dead biological mother, Adele. Libby's quest to find out about the woman she never knew causes her to ask Holton for a job, but instead of telling him the truth she just tells him that Adele is a good friend.

All Holton Creary knows is that he awoke to a huge hangover and a strange girl on his doorstep. This girl, by the name of Libby, shows up at his door offering to work for him. Holton knows that there is something up about this girl, he just doesn't know what it is, yet but soon he will get to the bottom of it.

Sometimes God can take a mountain of an issue and use it for His glory. Something that you would never dream could turn your life upside down but in the end can be your saving grace and that's what this book is all about.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from CFBA.
