Review: Nora Bonesteel's Christmas Past by:Sharyn McCrumb
About the Book:
When someone buys the old Honeycutt house, Nora Bonesteel is glad to see some life brought back to the old mansion, even if it is by summer people. But when they decide to stay through Christmas, they find more than old memories in the walls. On Christmas Eve, Sheriff Spencer Arrowwood and Deputy Joe LeDonne find themselves on an unwelcome call to arrest an elderly man for a minor offense. As they attempt to do their duty, while doing the right thing for a neighbor, it begins to look like they may all spend Christmas away from home. In a story of spirits, memories, and angels unaware, Sharyn McCrumb revisits her most loved characters who know there is more to this world than the eye can see, especially at Christmastime.
About the Author:
Sharyn McCrumb is the New York Times best-selling author of The Rosewood Casket, The Ballad of Tom Dooley, and many other acclaimed novels. She lives and writes in the Virginia Blue Ridge, less than 100 miles from where her family settled in 1790 in the Smoky Mountains that divide North Carolina and Tennessee.
My Review:
When Nora Bonesteel heard of the weird happenings at her neighbor, Shirley Haverty's new home, she just couldn't believe it. all her life she grew up around that place, she had even visited frequently, and to the best of her knowledge it wasn't haunted. But Shirley didn't agree. Sheriff Spencer Arrowood and deputy Joe Lebonne find themselves in the freezing cold on Christmas Eve looking to arrest an older gentleman, who it seems has caused some trouble.
Shirley brings Nora up to her old place into a home that holds a few secrets of its own. The closer Nora gets to finding out what caused all the strange happenings, she is transported back in time. Spencer and Joe decide to help this man with a few things, as he tries to avoid going to jail. But pretty soon they see this old man is holding a few secrets too.
The author took a small novella and turned it into a great Christmastime read. I don't recall ever working with this author before but I really enjoyed this novella and as my readers know Christmas is always my favorite. This storyline was tightly spun around a great mystery that tied in many characters from previous books. Great read during the holidays!!
