Litfuse Review:Pennsylvania Patchwork by:Kate Lloyd

Pennsylvania Patchwork
About the Book:
ONE HEART. TWO LOVES. ONE CHOICE.

Seattle native Holly Fisher is smitten by Lancaster County, its simplicity and her long lost relatives. In the sequel to bestselling Leaving Lancaster, Holly embraces the Amish culture, learning to slow down to see what  - and who – really matters.
Meeting the family that her mother had kept hidden from her, Holly comes face to face with her real life and blood legacy. She also falls for the charming Zach, a handsome Mennonite veterinarian who is everything she’s ever wanted in a husband: confident, kind, successful, and authentic. And Zach proposes marriage. Is this too soon? Is this the right choice? Mother and Amish grandmother think she’s rushing into too much of a lifestyle change. Holly is in love with Zach and that precludes everything. Until she meets an attractive Amish man. And an old suitor shows up.

Pennsylvania Patchwork is the moving, richly told story of one woman’s heart, her faith and trust, and the choices she makes. Never easy, but one choice can change your destiny.

 Kate Lloyd
About the Author:
Kate Lloyd is a novelist, a mother of two sons, and a passionate observer of human relationships. A native of Baltimore, Kate spends time with family and friends in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the inspiration for Leaving Lancaster & Pennsylvania Patchwork. She is a member of the Lancaster County Mennonite Historical Society. Kate and her husband live in the Pacific Northwest, the setting for Kate's first novel, A Portrait of Marguerite. Kate studied painting and sculpture in college. She has worked a variety of jobs, including car salesman and restaurateur. Find out more about Kate Lloyd on her website at www.katelloyd.net. http://www.facebook.com/katelloydbooks.

My Review:
All Holly Fisher wants to do is get married to her love, Zach. But this is going to prove to be harder than it has to be because neither her grandmother or her mother approve. Awaiting her beloved to come to a family dinner. Only to see him speed away for some unknown reason slightly left Holly unsettled and then to meet Armin which is the neighbor's brother and to hear what he had to say about Zach sent Holly into a rage. She has to get down to the bottom of this soon, real soon.

There are so many relationships in this one. So many twists and turns for a minute there. It was a little hard to keep up with. This is second in a trilogy--Legacy of Lancaster Trilogy. Will Holly finally get to marry Zach? Is Zach hiding something like every one thinks? And what about Holly's mom Esther, is she going to get to marry Nathanial? Will Anna ever give up and let Holly find her own way? This was an amazing book that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end.

Review:The Point by:William E. Jefferson

The Point: The Redemption of Oban Ironbout
About the Book:
Searching for peace and inspiration, Hollie and Goodwin Macbreeze travel to the Isle of Estillyen - a distant harbor known for bringing ancient words of worth to the present. Their lives become unexpectedly and inseparably intertwined with the reclusive Oban Ironbout - and a mystery from the past that will transform them all.

It is a tale of pain ... and redemption.

About the Author:
William Jefferson—founder of Port Estillyen Productions and author of the breakthrough new novel, Messages from Estillyen—has spent his professional career advancing Scripture mission programs through diverse forms of media. He holds an M.Th. in Theology and Media from the University of Edinburgh and an M.A. in Communications from Wheaton Graduate School.
With his first novel, Messages from Estillyen, Jefferson shares much of the wisdom that he has gleaned during his career: that words matter, that every human being has innate worth, and that Christ alone is the perfect union of Medium and Message. William Jefferson’s preferred title is simply “Message Maker.” He writes from his rural home in the Ozarks, where he lives with his wife, Lois, and Border collie, Archie.

My Review:
Hollie and Goodwin Macbreeze decide to go on a three month pilgrimage to just get away from it all. They decided to go to all the usual tourist destinations. But under the advice and encouragement of Goodwin's grandfather they added the Isle of Estillyen to the last leg of their journey.

While the couple are waiting for the ferry to arrive to take them to their destination they befriend one of the locals by the name of Mr. Kind. And he goes about the task of giving them a little more insight on this island that they are so curious about. Goodwin is in search of a cottage that he was told about as a child.

After reading the book and learning more about the author, I soon realize that this place really does exist. The island sounds very beautiful and intriguing. The book was well written and had good, strong characters to immediately draw you in and take you along for the ride.

Review:Wavelength by:Jeff Petherick

Wavelength, Tuning In To God's Voice In A World of Static
About the Book:
Did God Stop Speaking? Or Did We Stop Listening? Hearing the voice of God is like listening to the radio if you re not dialed in to exactly the right frequency, you ll get nothing but static. Wavelength reveals what happens when a nonreligious businessman learns to tune in God s voice... then dares to obey it. His unorthodox adventures in following Jesus will challenge your thinking, kick over a few sacred cows, and reveal how you can have your own two-way conversations with God.

About the Author:
Jeff Petherick is a portfolio manager and partner in a top-ranked investment firm. When he's not busy picking stocks, he teaches seminars about Jesus and travels the world on mission trips. An avid outdoors-man, Jeff lives in a rural area north of Detroit with his wife and two kids. This is his first book that didn't involve paste and crayons, and was written to prove that ordinary men can do extraordinary things when they obey the voice of God. Karl Nilsson is the communication director for one of America s largest churches. Before working in the ecclesiastical realm, he operated a successful advertising agency. Prior to his career in marketing, he was a syndicated cartoonist, newspaper columnist, and magazine editor. Rejecting the starving artist cliche, he currently lives in a way-too-fancy-for-his-income suburb of Detroit with his wife and two children.

My Review:
Read about the authors own experience on getting closer to God and learning to listen and behave the way God expects you to. Soon the author and his wife began to see and feel God's overwhelming love when after they both agree that it is time to hand over their daughter's special needs to the Father.

He speaks of his family venturing out to find a new church and how they knew that the Kensington Community Church was the one for them. And after careful consideration he joins the choir and opening up himself and his family to more and more people he starts hearing more stories about hearing God's voice through all the noise.

I believe it really is not difficult to hear God's voice. It is only difficult or hard when aren't able to tune the world and all of its static out. God wants to communicate with us. We are His children. He loves us and wants to be there for us. The author shares his own experiences as well as those of others to show God's voice in action.

Litfuse Review:The Offering by:Angela Hunt

 The Offering: A Novel
About the Book:
One innocent mistake . . . a lifetime of consequences.

After growing up an only child, Amanda Lisandra wants a big family. But since she and her soldier husband can’t afford to have more children right away, Mandy decides to earn money as a gestational carrier for a childless couple. She loves being pregnant, and while carrying the child, she dreams of having her own son and maybe another daughter. . . .

Just when the nearly perfect pregnancy is about to conclude, unexpected tragedy enters Mandy’s world and leaves her reeling. Devastated by grief, she surrenders the child she was carrying and struggles to regain her emotional equilibrium.

Two years later she studies a photograph of the baby she bore and wonders if the unthinkable has happened—could she have inadvertently given away her own biological child? Over the next few months Mandy struggles to decide between the desires of her grief-stricken heart and what’s best for the little boy she has never known.

About the Author:
With more than four million copies of her books sold worldwide, Angela Hunt is the bestselling author of more than one hundred titles, including The Tale of Three Trees, The Note, and The Nativity Story. Her nonfiction book Don’t Bet Against Me, written with Deanna Favre, spent several weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Angela frequently teaches writing workshops at schools and writers’ conferences, and she served as the keynote speaker at an American Christian Fiction Writers’ national conference. She and her husband make their home in Florida.

My Review:
After having my first child and realizing that I would love to add to our family. And then realizing that we also didn't have the money just like the family in the book, it is really hard to calm that feeling of longing for another little one.

Mandy is just like that. She wants to have a big family. But like the rest of us these days she and her soldier boy husband are racing to keep up in life. And the thought of adding to their family has to be a well thought out plan not something you go about on a whim. This book is amazing! I love how the characters were together but separate. Mandy is almost through with a pregnancy that is not meant to be her own when the unthinkable takes her for a joy ride and it wasn't one she wanted to take either.

I don't think I could ever do what Mandy did. It is so unselfish and loving. She is stronger than I ever could be. This is an awesome read. Angela Hunt's best yet!

Review:Girls Can't WHAT?

 Girls Can't WHAT? Gifts

The HOW & WHY behind the brand:(from the artist&creator herself)

The company is called Girls Can't WHAT? and we're all about encouraging girls to challenge gender barriers and achieve their dreams. The site itself is full of inspirational stories from ladies of all ages as well as practical tips on topics such as goal setting, personal relationships and more.

As an artist, I created the Girls Can't WHAT? characters as a way to represent girls who are passionate about what they love to do, but have a hard time finding support for their sport or career. Each design bears the Girls Can't WHAT? message of empowerment that girls can do anything they set their mind to do. To date, we have sold thousands of t-shirts, tote bags, hats mugs and more. Our most popular designs are the firefighter, the preacher, hockey player, drummer and guitar player.

As full-time self-employed mom of 2 teenage daughters, I also wanted to help other moms who need an extra helping hand to get their businesses started or pay for education costs. Each month Girls Can't WHAT? gives 20% of our earnings to women through the KIVA micro lending program. Since we started this program 2 years ago, we have helped over 200 women in achieving their dreams.

The Girls Can't WHAT? site has dozens of different gift ideas from apparel to coffee mugs to aprons and greeting cards. You can also pick an item based on what interests the girl in your life has. My daughter chose a four wheeler which is listed for $22.20, but if the girl in your life is interested in music or sports then that is definitely an option. But don't be deterred if I didn't mention a particular interest. There is always something on the site that you can choose from as there are many different options.

There is also some options there for women or tween girls. Gretchen has thought of it all! I was even surprised to see that they have items to choose from for today's electronic devices. So whether you are looking for items for yourself or for gift ideas this is an awesome place to look and you will even help others with your purchase.

Pictured above is my beautiful daughter modeling the shirt. She loved the feel of the shirt. The fit was perfect and we are really happy with the printing on the shirt. Girls Can't WHAT? has some really amazing products and their customer service is excellent. Please pay them a visit. Here is the link to their home page.

Review: Palmolive Soft Touch Dish Detergent

We hand wash our dishes a majority of the time. We have a dishwasher but we only use it during the holidays when we have tons of dishes that need washing. Recently, I had the chance to try to different scented Palmolive products and I thought I would share that experience here.

The Product: Ultra Palmolive Soft Touch

The Scents available:Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, With Aloe

The Scents we tried:Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E

Our review and thoughts on both products: We enjoyed the Vitamin E scent more than the Cocoa Butter scent but overall the product performed as expected leaving us with soft, supple hands. Palmolive is Tough on Grease, Soft on Hands.

Review:The Promise Box by:Tricia Goyer

The Promise Box (Seven Brides for Seven Bachelors #2)
About the Book:
Every year, young Amish men descend on the cozy little town of West Kootenai, Montana, arriving in the spring to live there for six months and receive “resident” status for the hunting season in the fall. They arrive as bachelors, but go home with brides!
In The Promise Box, the second book of best-selling author Tricia Goyer’s Seven Brides for Seven Bachelors series, Lydia Wyse, a book editor from Seattle who grew up Amish, returns to the small community of West Kootenai to give comfort to her father after her mother’s death. She is drawn back to the familiar Amish ways after finding her mother’s most precious possession, a Promise Box of prayers and scripture. What her publisher sees, though, is an opportunity for a sensational “tell-all” book about the Amish.
Lydia soon finds herself falling in love with Amish bachelor Gideon Hooley. She wants nothing more than to forget her past and look forward to a future as an Amish bride. But will the pain of her childhood---and her potential betrayal of her community---keep her from committing her whole heart?

About the Author:
USA Today best-selling author Tricia Goyer is the author of 35 books, including the three-book Seven Brides for Seven Bachelors series. She has written over 500 articles for national publications and blogs for high traffic sites like TheBetterMom.com and MomLifeToday.com. My Review:
Going back in time to a past not ever truly forgotten doesn't seem incredibly easy for Lydia Wyse or easy to accept. Being raised Amish, she never felt she really belonged and when she turned 16 she found out why.  She was adopted. After finding out this information she tried to run from the Amish community as fast as she could to possibly find where she belonged. But her adoptive mother's death brings her back to the place where she walked away oh so many years prior, from a life that promised more than she could of ever imagined.

Gideon Hooley practically drops into Lydia's lap. She finds him handsome but assumes he is taken because most Amish men usually are. But is pleasantly surprised to find out he is one of the bachelors that comes to the town of  West Kootenai, Montana year around. And Gideon couldn't get Lydia off his mind either. But we soon find out why Lydia was here coming back to her roots. But Gideon has another reason, a reason he hasn't really been very forth coming with.

This story is such an encouraging one that takes you on a spiritual journey. You will learn what the "Promise Box" is and what it meant to Lydia's mother and how it got her through some of the toughest of times to more times of peaceful resolute. This is the second book in the Seven Brides for Seven Bachelors series. This book to me seems to be a book you can jump into immediately and catch up. It is a great read. I enjoyed it immensely.

Litfuse Review:Afloat by:Erin Healy

Afloat
About the Book:
Dark waters are rising.

There’s sabotage lurking in the waters of Eagle’s Talon, an elite floating community designed by gifted architect Vance Nolan. There’s also something else in the water—a mysterious presence friendly to some and hostile to others. And when disaster strikes, not even the saboteur expects it to be the first in a series of crushing blows.

Stranded by a flo
od and surrounded by unnatural darkness, a limping band of residents, builders, and investors set their sights on escape. Single mom Danielle Clement will do whatever it takes to save her young son Simeon, but she doesn’t know who to follow: her charismatic lover and aspiring politician Tony Dean, who dotes on her and her boy, or the selfless Vance, who promises protection for everyone who stays with him—based on a vision and a faith she doesn’t share.

In this watery world where everyone’s secrets will eventually come to light, survival might have more to do with uncovering the truth than with getting out alive.

 Erin Healy
About the Author:
Erin Healy is the best-selling co-author of Burn and Kiss (with Ted Dekker) and an award-winning editor for numerous best-selling authors. She has received wide acclaim for her novels Never Let You Go, The Baker's Wife, House of Mercy, and Afloat. She and her family live in Colorado. If you are interested in purchasing Afloat you can at this link.

My Review:
This was a unique book to read. It has very interesting plot. A subdivision of sorts built on the water, sounds fun enough, but is it? All is great until, a sinkhole threatens the virtual existence of this very unusual neighborhood.

Architect Vance Nolan builds condominiums on water. And they are not little shoddy beach either. They are what he calls "elite living spaces" for wealthy owners. Vance starts to notice that the sounds of the construction crew take over for the natural sounds that you would normally hear around a body of water. Before long it is soon realized that there is a mysterious presence found there that noone had anticipated nor can anyone explain.

Erin Healy is no stranger to this type of writing. She has well rounded characters and a plot that seems to take on a life of its own very quickly. Before long you are entrapped in the suspense and mystery of the cove and the supernatural happenings that have taken everyone by surprise. This book blends supernatural and spiritual to provide entertainment that is thought provoking to say the least.

Review:Wings of Glass by:Gina Holmes

 Wings of Glass
About the Book:
On the cusp of adulthood, eighteen-year-old Penny Carson is swept off her feet by a handsome farmhand with a confident swagger. Though Trent Taylor seems like Prince Charming and offers an escape from her one-stop-sign town, Penny’s happily-ever-after lasts no longer than their breakneck courtship. Before the ink even dries on their marriage certificate, he hits her for the first time. It isn’t the last, yet the bruises that can’t be seen are the most painful of all.

When Trent is injured in a welding accident and his paycheck stops, he has no choice but to finally allow Penny to take a job cleaning houses. Here she meets two women from very different worlds who will teach her to live and laugh again, and lend her their backbones just long enough for her to find her own.

 Image of Gina Holmes
About the Author:
Gina Holmes is the President and founder of popular literary site, Novel Rocket, and award-winning author of Crossing Oceans, Dry as Rain, and Wings of Glass. She resides with her husband and children in southern Virginia. She works too hard, laughs too loud, and longs to see others heal from their past and discover their God-given purpose. To learn more about her, visit www.ginaholmes.com or www.novelrocket.com.

Or find her on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/authorginaholmes

My Review:
To say the author, Gina Holmes can really paint an ugly picture of domestic violence is an understatement. She takes Penny Carson's sham of a marriage, something that is suppose to be sacred and shows us all the ugly truth behind it. Penny thought that it would be a match made in heaven marrying the handsome Trent Taylor but soon after the nuptials she all but stumbles into a life of insults and pain.

The picture of Penny's laugh before her marriage seemed like any typical teenage girl living on a farm out in the country. I loved the description of the mean old house cat Seymour getting pecked in the nose by a chicken because he wouldn't stop terrorizing the poor thing. I could imagine it as if I were there. And the description of her hanging out clothes on the clothesline. Priceless! You can't tell at the beginning of the book where its headed so the author did a brilliant job.

Review:Captain No Beard by:Carole P. Roman

Captain No Beard: An Imaginary Tale of a Pirate's Life
About the Book:
Captain No Beard and his pirate ship The Flying Dragon set sail for a voyage of the imagination with his fearless crew of four: First Mate Hallie, Mongo the Monkey, Linus the loudmouthed lion, and Fribbit the floppy frog.

 Image of Carole P. Roman
About the Author:
Carole P. Roman is a former teacher turned businesswoman. She has successfully run a family business with her husband that employs close to five hundred people. Her most favorite job is being grandmother to her many grandchildren.  Roman has two wonderful sons and hit the jackpot in the daughter-in-law department. She currently lives on Long Island with her husband.

Her first series, Captain No Beard has been lauded by the Kirkus Review and read by children around the world.  Her next project is the book series I Want To Do Yoga, Too.  She is currently working on a new educational series that explores different cultures from a child's point of view. To learn more about this captivating author, you can visit her website at this link.

My Review:
Captain No Beard is a very fun, sweet picture book that is full of imagination and heart. Carole P. Roman did an excellent job of drawing us all in to Alexander's active imagination. I thought I was on his ship, the Flying Dragon, myself. It is a very well written book that gets to the heart of an active child's play. It was a fun book to read to my boys. Hallie, Alexander's first mate which also happens to be his cousin is just as spunky as Alexander.

Everything is fun and games with this duo and their three sidekicks until a mermaid begins to surface A.K.A. Mom, and very nicely says they need to pick up their mess and of course have a snack. You don't have to be a fan of pirates to enjoy this book. It is just a fun, down to earth book anyone would enjoy.

Review:Prized by:Noelle Toscano

 FinalFrontCover
About the Book:
Prized! was written for teenage young women. However, women of all ages can feel free to enjoy the nostalgia of those days. Like rewinding time, you will be vividly reminded of your past. I wrote this book in a way that would give me specific insights into everything I wish I would have known at the time. Prized! addresses self-esteem issues (aka GOD-esteem issues), how to deal with stressful parental relationships, superficiality, dating tips (YIKES!), making and maintaining healthy friendships, among other typical teenage issues. The goal of this book is to inspire young women to glorify God with their entire lives, long before the world expects them to.

My Review:
The author; Noelle Toscano, has taken her time as a young teenager and wrote a short but very sweet book and Bible study about it. The best thing about this book is it can be done as a group. It is a very short read but that does not hinder the power of this very pink book. Can I just say, I love the cover?!

The author has done her best to go back in her past to relive some of the memories she had as a teenager. To remember what it was like to be that age. Wanting to be noticed, important and the center of attention but at the same time wanting to hide in the corner. Through the struggles of a young teenage girl all the way up to today. Even as a woman this book took me back to my own time of adolescence and the uncertainty that lurked there.

We are reminded by the author that God has created us for a purpose and that we must not ever forget to see ourselves as He does. She tells us to keep our eyes on the goal--our "Prize". Which is our relationship with Him so that one day we will be with Him in Glory.

Review:The Christian Parenting Handbook

The Christian Parenting Handbook: 50 Heart-Based Strategies for All the Stages of Your Child's Life
About the Book:
With advice on parenting coming from several angles, what do you listen to and what do you ignore? Develop your own biblical philosophy of parenting and use it to filter the many ideas that come your way.

In this book you'll learn how to:

Identify character qualities to address problems

Build internal motivation

Transfer responsibility for change to the child

Teach kids to be solvers instead of whiners

Use creativity to teach your kids spiritual truths

Avoid the "boxing ring"

Envision a positive future

And much more!

With these strategies you'll be able to move from behavior modification to a heart-based approach to parenting. Instead of relying on rewards, incentives, threats, and punishment, you'll learn how to identify heart lessons to teach your child "and" implement them in practical ways.

"The Christian Parenting Handbook" by Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, founders of the National Center for Biblical Parenting, compiles fifty parenting principles that use heart-based strategies to teach you how to face daily challenges. When parents focus on the heart, kids learn to ask different questions about life. Instead of asking, "What's in it for me?" they learn to ask, "What's the "right" thing to do?" You'll soon see how a heart-based approach to parenting looks deeper and brings about greater, lasting change.

The daily interaction you have with your children can impact them for the rest of their lives. With these fifty heart-based strategies, you'll develop your own biblical philosophy of parenting and gain perspective, greater motivation, and confidence that you're moving in the right direction. As you envision a positive future for your children, they'll experience hope and direction and you will too. Start applying these principles today!

My Review:
Whoever said raising children was easy? Or how about "raising children doesn't come with a handbook"? Well now it does! Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller both professionals in the field of medicine and Christian parenting. In the books introduction the authors state you are holding a book of ideas and that is just what you will get. Here are some basic guidelines taken from the book:

Begin with prayer

Build on a Biblical foundation

Think long term

Remember what's most important

Watch for variations on a theme

Focus on the heart

This is not a preach at you, in your face type of parenting self help book. This book was not designed to do that. It was designed to help gently guide you through many of the problems and circumstances that parents face every day. There are fifty chapters each one addressing a different issue.

I think there are more and more people turning to God in this day and age probably because of so many of the threats that face us and our nation. It is a very scary time. We want to make the right decisions and guide our children the best way we can. And the only way is based on a Biblical foundation.

My Review:
This novel is set during the Civil War. The heroine in this novel is Beth Bumgartner and her dream for as long as she could remember was to be a nurse and to work alongside Clara Barton during wartime. She goes to stay with her grandmother to receive her training. And before long she is faced with a decision that she is basically forced to make. Pretty soon they are both caring for the Confederate side which will not sit well with their family or anyone else for that matter.

Joe is brought to Grandmother Gerta's home by a group of runaway slaves to be cared for because he was wounded. The runaway slaves said that Joe and his brother Ben saved their lives and it was the least that they could do. Soon Beth realizes that even though Joe is on the wrong side of the war she doesn't want him to die. This is a heartwarming story that causes you to see compassion and generosity in a whole new light.

Review: Chronicles of Dinosauria by:Dave Woetzel

Chronicles of Dinosauria
About the Book:
Explore legends, mythical sightings, and intriguing mysteries from around the globe! A unique combination of visual illustrations and unforgettable accounts, the book is an amazing adventure that calls into question what we've been taught to believe and understand about the history of dinosaurs and man.

About the Author:
Dave graduated from Bob Jones University in 1987 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. He is the president of CCR Data Systems, a technology firm and in 1999 started the Genesis Park website which showcases evidence that men and dinosaurs coexisted, much of which is now included in this book. His personal research and experience in remote countries in search of evidence for man and dinosaur coexistence gave him the nickname, “Dino Dave”.

My Review:
If you ever wondered if there were dinosaurs during Bible times or if you have children that simply adore dinosaurs then this is the book for you. Chronicles of Dinosauria is the perfect resource to add to my already growing list of dinosaur books. My boys LOVE dinosaurs. They eat, breathe, and sleep dinosaurs. The author Dave Woetzel has gathered all the information he has collected and learned about and put it into book form for all of us to learn and enjoy about these fascinating creatures.

The author has taken the Bible combined with artifacts, studies, digs and many other sources of information and put them together to show the proof behind the pudding. There is even a recipe for making fossils that my boys and I plan on trying. This book is an amazing wealth of knowledge on the history of all things dinosaur. It opens up a whole new world about them that I didn't know existed. The author has also included God's plan of salvation which I loved. The book is an amazing dinosaur study book and the illustrations are equally amazing. Master Books; a division of New Leaf Publishing Group, has done an outstanding job, if you are interested in learning more or watching the book trailer you can go to this link.

Review:Redeeming Grace by:Ward Tanneberg

Redeeming Grace
About the Book:
Seven years ago, Grace Grafton died in a boating accident while partying on the Georgia, South Carolina coast. Was her death the result of alcohol and drugs or something more sinister? Nobody knows: her body was never recovered. Now years later, a woman reads in disbelief the note addressed to her: Hello Grace, did you think we wouldn't find you?

Those nine chilling words end Grafton s self-imposed sanctuary of witness protection. Now she and everyone she loves are in grave danger. Long believed dead, she has a secret that can change the world. She knows the man running for president is guilty of a double murder! But who will believe her?

About the Author:
Ward Tanneberg is a pastor/writer/novelist, having authored several books and given more than 50 years to evangelism, youth, college and pastoral ministry, including two Pacific Northwest churches and 23 years as the senior pastor at Valley Christian Center in Dublin, CA. Ward speaks extensively at retreats, conferences and ministry leadership events in and outside the USA. He and his wife, Dixie, live in the Pacific Northwest.

My Review:
A book full of mystery and intrigue is what you can expect out of Ward Tanneberg's latest Redeeming Grace. Sitting on the edge of your seat suspense. The beginning of the book had me puzzled for a few chapters. Grace Grafton is thought to have died many years prior when two of her friends were brutally murdered. But unbeknownst to anyone she wasn't murdered and now lives as on the run as Taylor.

She finally feels like life is good when she is asked to marry Brad; a minister. Brad a very good and honorable man already has two children when he proposes to Taylor. All seems great when suddenly the things from Taylor's past seem to be catching up with her. Grace knows who committed those murders all those years ago, but to take down such an important figure may prove to be too much for this young woman. But faced with the fact that now Brad and his children have been brought into this, she finds herself at a crossroads.

Review:These Are The Days of Elijah by:R.T. Kendall

 Cover Art
About the Book:
God used Elijah to accomplish great things--and He can use you, too.

Elijah is marked as one of the greatest prophets of the Bible. More than a gifted seer, he spoke directly for God, and with His authority. Elijah is the only prophet to have called down fire from heaven, and one of only two individuals in Scripture taken to heaven before tasting death. Yet this remarkable agent of the Lord was also very human, afflicted with the very same failings and fears you have.

With keen insight and practical application, beloved theologian and teacher R. T. Kendall explores the triumphs and contradictions of this powerful man of God. You will love seeing how Elijah was like you--righteous but proud, strong but cowardly, blessed but tested by trial and doubt.
And you will take joy in realizing how God will use you, as He did Elijah, for His perfect glory.
 R.T. Kendall
About the Author:
Dr. R. T. Kendall, a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Oxford University (D.Phil.), was the senior minister of the historic Westminster Chapel in London for 25 years. The author of numerous bestselling books, he conducts conferences throughout the world. He and his wife, Louise, now live in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Visit rtkendallministries.com

My Review:
This book is an excellent resource on the prophet Elijah. Elijah was much like you and me but yet was set apart for many great and wonderful things done solely to glorify God. I see alot of similarities in some of the things Elijah done and the things that Jesus accomplished. Don't know if there is a connection there it was just something I noticed. Elijah was a very notable character in the Old Testament.

He was one of the two human beings that was taken to Heaven before he had a chance to actually die. He killed 850 false prophets only to be afraid of the one and only Jezebel. Those two facts alone; about him, interest me probably more than any other prophet in the Bible. The author has taken what we learned from Elijah and all he proclaimed in his day and applied it to today and what we should consider and look for in the days leading up to Christ's return.

The author has also mentions Elisha which came after Elijah to finish the work that Elijah started. But he is described as being even more powerful than the former prophet. If you are interested in learning more about this book you can do so here.

Litfuse Review:Undeniably Yours by:Becky Wade

Undeniably Yours (A Porter Family #1)
About the Book:
When Meg Cole’s father dies unexpectedly, she becomes the majority shareholder of his oil company and the single inheritor of his fortune. Though Meg is soft-spoken and tenderhearted–more interested in art than in oil–she’s forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of her father’s empire.
The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father’s thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.
Bo’s determined to resent the woman who’s decided to rob him of his dream. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them–her wealth, his unworthiness, her family’s outrage–and earn the right to love her.
But just when Meg begins to realize that Bo might be the one thing on the ranch worth keeping, their fragile bond is viciously broken by a force from Meg’s past. Can their love–and their belief that God can work through every circumstance–survive?

About the Author:
Becky Wade is a graduate of Baylor University. As a newlywed, she lived for three years in a home overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, as well as in Australia, before returning to the States. A mom of three young children, Becky and her family now live in Dallas, Texas. Learn more at www.beckywade.com.

My Review:
The Cole family in my mind seem very similar to the Ewing family on that famous television show all those years ago. Meg's father, William Cole, had always prided himself in knowing all there is to know about oil, how to drill it and how to sell it. Meg, on the other hand was an old softie. She wasn't a cutthroat business woman. But she is forced to take over the business after the unexpected death of her father.

Set in today's time, this book takes you deep into the heart of Texas to a Thoroughbred racehorse farm that Meg Cole wants no part of. So she decides to allow Bo Porter to continue business for 6 more months but does want him to move forward with shutting the business down. Bo Porter the manager of her fathers business wants to be so angry with this angel that has stumbled into his life but instead is very much captivated by her, so much so that he will do anything to please her.

Litfuse Review:Ray of Light by:Shelley Shepard Gray

Ray of Light (The Days of Redemption #2)
About the Book:
When two hearts connect on a beach in Florida, is it a brief romance . . . or the start of a lasting love?

After family secrets come to light, causing an uproar, Roman Keim is taking a much-needed vacation to Pinecraft, the Amish snowbird community in Florida. The warm weather is a welcome break from the bleak Ohio winter, as is a week off from all his family's drama. But Roman's own drama begins when he meets his next-door neighbors: Amanda Yoder, a beautiful young widow, and her adorable daughter, Regina.

In the two years since her husband died, Amanda has never looked at another man. She certainly doesn't intend to get married again. But she can't deny that there's something special between her and Roman. As his week in Pinecraft comes to a close, Amanda knows that, in spite of her attempt to remain distant, she's given Roman a piece of her heart. And her daughter seems to have fallen in love, too.

Is there hope for a second chance at love for Amanda? Or will duty call Roman home first, far from the two women who have captured his heart?

About the Author:
Shelley Shepard Gray is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Sisters of the Heart, Seasons of Sugarcreek, Secrets of Crittenden County, and Families of Honor series. She lives in southern Ohio, where she writes full-time, bakes too much, and can often be found walking her dachshunds on her town's bike trail.

My Review:
This book is much like the previous one in the The Days of Redemption series as it is capturing my attention from the very start. We are greeted with everyone in the Keim family gathered around Grandmother Lovina as she starts to read a letter from her grandson Roman who is away in Pinecraft, Florida. While on vacation in Florida Roman begins to notice his neighbor that just happens to be Amish. He learns through town gossip that it is possible she is a widow and has a daughter.

Soon the rumors are put to rest and Roman learns that everything he has heard is in fact true, much to his delight. Well, Roman's cousin Beth decides to introduce him to the girl he appears to be so fond of;Amanda.
Amanda doesn't seem too interested in him at first. It is definitely interesting to see how this all plays out especially since Roman feels like he has a somewhat boring life and very little to offer. This book, even though it is second in the series can pretty much stand alone. It would make for a great beach read!

TITLE: Book Blast: Every Hill and Mountain by Deborah Heal 5/21/13 -$50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway!
Title:Every Hill and Mountain (Time and Again) (Volume 3) By Deborah Heal

About the Book:

Every Hill and Mountain Visiting another century…not the summer vacation she had planned. Those who have read Time and Again and Unclaimed Legacy know that Abby Thomas is a college student on a summer service project with 11-year-old Merri. And they know that the summer is not going the way Abby had expected—but in a good way. For one thing, she meets a very nice guy named John Roberts. And for another, she discovers a strange computer program called Beautiful House that lets her fast-forward and rewind life. Not her own, of course, but those of the people who lived in Merri’s old house. And the Old Dears’ old house, and…well, any old house. And since the program worked so well for the Old Dears’ family tree project, Abby’s college roommate Kate hopes it will help her find out more about her ancestor Ned Greenfield. And Kate’s fiancé Ryan thinks the program has lucrative commercial potential. Abby and John reluctantly agree to help Kate, but only on the condition that she and Ryan promise to keep the program a secret, because if it fell into the wrong hands…well, no one wants Big Brother invading their privacy. The two couples take a trip to the tiny town of Equality, set in the hills of southern Illinois and the breath-taking Shawnee National Forest. According to Kate’s research, Ned Greenfield was born there at a place called Hickory Hill. The mayor, police chief, and townspeople are hospitable and helpful—until the topic of Hickory Hill comes up. They seem determined to keep them away, telling them, “There’s nothing there for you to see.” Eventually they find Hickory Hill on their own—both the mansion and the lonely hill it sits upon. Built in 1834, Hickory Hill stands sentinel over Half Moon Salt Mine where the original owner John Granger accumulated his blood-tainted fortune. Abby and her friends meet Miss Granger, Hickory Hill’s current eccentric owner, and they eventually get the chance to time-surf there. Their shocking discovery on the third floor concerning Kate’s ancestor Ned Greenfield is almost too much to bear. What they learn sends them racing to the opposite end of the state to find the missing link in Kate’s family tree. And there they are reminded that God is in the business of redemption—that one day he’ll make all things new.

Review:The Winnowing Season by:Cindy Woodsmall

The Winnowing Season by Cindy Woodsmall
About the Book:
The tornado that devastated Kings’ Orchard pushed Rhoda, Samuel, and Jacob to make a new start in Maine. Are they strong enough to withstand the challenges of establishing an Amish community—and brave enough to face the secrets that move with them?

On the eve of their departure to begin a new Old Order Amish community outside of Unity, Maine, Rhoda Byler is shocked to discover that choices made by her business partner and friend, Samuel King, have placed her and her unusual gifts directly into the path of her district’s bishop and preachers. She is furious with Samuel and is fearful that the Kings will be influenced by the way her leaders see her, and not what they know to be true—that Rhoda’s intuition is a gift from God.

Jacob King won’t be swayed by community speculation. He loves Rhoda, believes in her, and wants to build a future with her in Maine. But when the ghosts of his past come calling and require him to fulfill a great debt, can he shake their hold before it destroys what he has with Rhoda? Samuel has a secret of his own—one he’ll go to great lengths to keep hidden, even if it means alienating those closest to him. Throwing himself into rehabilitating the once-abandoned orchard, Samuel turns to a surprising new ally.

Book 2 of the Amish Vines and Orchards series asks: can the three faithfully follow God’s leading and build a new home and orchard in Maine? Or will this new beginning lead to more ruin and heartbreak?

About the Author:
Cindy Woodsmall is a New York Times best-selling author who has written a dozen (and counting!) works of fiction and one of nonfiction. She and her dearest Old Order Amish friend, Miriam Flaud, coauthored the nonfiction, Plain Wisdom: An Invitation into an Amish Home and the Hearts of Two Women. Cindy has been featured on ABC Nightline and on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, and has worked with National Geographic on a documentary concerning Amish life.

She's a veteran homeschool mom who no longer holds that position. As her children progressed in age, her desire to write grew stronger. After working through reservations whether this desire was something she should pursue, she began her writing journey. Her husband was her staunchest supporter as she aimed for what seemed impossible.

She's won Fiction Book of the Year, Reviewer's Choice Awards, Inspirational Reader's Choice Contest, as well as one of Crossings' Best Books of the Year. She's been a finalist for the prestigious Christy, Rita, and Carol Awards, Christian Book of the Year, and Christian Retailers Choice Awards.

Her real-life connections with Amish Mennonite and Old Order Amish families enrich her novels with authenticity. Though she didn't realize it at the time, seeds were sown years ago that began preparing Cindy to write these books. At the age of ten, while living in the dairy country of Maryland, she became best friends with Luann, a Plain Mennonite girl. Luann, like all the females in her family, wore the prayer Kapp and cape dresses. Her parents didn't allow television or radios, and many other modern conveniences were frowned upon. During the numerous times Luann came to Cindy's house to spend the night, her rules came with her and the two were careful to obey them--afraid that if they didn't, the adults would end their friendship. Although the rules were much easier to keep when they spent the night at Luann's because her family didn't own any of the forbidden items, both sets of parents were uncomfortable with the relationship and a small infraction of any kind would have been enough reason for the parents to end the relationship. While navigating around the adults' disapproval and the obstacles in each other's lifestyle, the two girls bonded in true friendship that lasted into their teen years, until Cindy's family moved to another region of the US.

As an adult, Cindy became friends with a wonderful Old Order Amish family who opened their home to her. Although the two women, Miriam and Cindy, live seven hundred miles apart geographically, and a century apart by customs, when they come together they never lack for commonality, laughter, and dreams of what only God can accomplish through His children. Over the years Cindy has continued to make wonderful friendships with those inside the Amish and Mennonite communities--from the most conservative ones to the most liberal.

Cindy and her husband reside near the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains in their now empty nest.

If you'd like more information or to contact her, you can go to her website: http://www.cindywoodsmall.com or Facebook https://www.facebook.com/authorcindywoodsmall

My Review:
As always Cindy Woodsmall does not disappoint. Her characters are real and true to form. I love her books. She really has a way of drawing you in and seeing her vision as each of the characters play out. The book The Winnowing Season is actually the second book in the Amish Vines and Orchards series. I imagine myself there with each conversation that takes place. And you will to as you read about the struggles this community has had in years past.

As the community has tried to rebuild after a tornado and acts of vandalism that harmed a young lady who really didn't deserve it. But that was nothing new to Rhoda, they had always let it be known that she was untrustworthy. As if this wasn't enough holding some of these families back from rebuilding their livelihood, it seems that the disagreements between Rhoda and Samuel maybe the straw that breaks the camels back.

Several of the families decide to start an Amish settlement in Maine. They have found some property there big enough to start an orchard which will be there way of making a fresh, new start. So it was agreed that Rhoda, Samuel, Jacob, Landon and a few others are sent to Maine to get everything underway. But soon it is realized that Samuel has done something to upset Rhoda to the point of her not wanting to go through with it at all.

Kaye lives in Nashville, Tennessee, where she is an academic advisor and English Composition instructor for Bethel University.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Set during the Industrial Revolution and the Great Exhibition of 1851, Follow the Heart is a “sitting-room romance” with the feel of a Regency-era novel but the fashions and technological advances of the mid-Victorian age.

Kate and Christopher Dearing’s lives turn upside down when their father loses everything in a railroad land speculation. The siblings are shipped off to their mother’s brother in England with one edict: marry money.

At twenty-seven years old, Kate has the stigma of being passed over by eligible men many times—and that was before she had no dowry. Christopher would like nothing better than to make his own way in the world; and with a law degree and expertise in the burgeoning railroad industry, he was primed to do just that—in America.

Though their uncle tries to ensure Kate and Christopher find matrimonial prospects only among the highest echelon of British society, their attentions stray to a gardener and a governess.

While Christopher has options that would enable him to lay his affections where he chooses, he cannot let the burden of their family’s finances crush his sister. Trying to push her feelings for the handsome—but not wealthy— gardener aside, Kate’s prospects brighten when a wealthy viscount shows interest in her. But is marrying for the financial security of her family the right thing to do, when her heart is telling her she’s making a mistake?

Mandates . . . money . . . matrimony. Who will follow the heart?

If you would like to read the first chapter of >Follow the Heart, go HERE

My Review:
I felt like the lead character Kate Dearing was in an awkward situation. She had no other gentlemen calling to court her. And the one that was, she could barely stand. Devlin, the one she thought she would eventually marry was handsome and fairly wealthy. Until he decides to open his mouth one day and the wrong things come spilling out. Finding out how one truly feels will sometimes change things for an individual and so it did for Kate. Kate and her brother Christopher are both in the market to be wed.

Kate and Christopher were sent to the train station to meet Kate's newest suitor that her Father arranged for her. When out of no where she is blindsided by the fact the the potential suitor sends someone in his stead. But when Kate and Andrew lay eyes on one another things develop between them rather quickly. Andrew was not actually the potential suitor. This book starts getting revved up rather fast and before long you feel like you are there in England yourself.

About the Author:
Lysa TerKeurst is a New York Times bestselling author and a national speaker who helps women live an adventure of faith. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and five children.

She has a passion for building relationships with others and loves to travel. She is currently a college student in North Carolina.

My Review:
If you are a young woman of faith you feel like the whole world is opened up to you. But if God has set you apart for an even more important stand out of the faith it can sometimes feel like a 2 ton boulder on your back. That is why it is imperative for you to be mentored by some really strong women of faith to help you through these times especially the trying ones. They are there to show you the way and to hopefully show you what they have learned whether it be through trial or triumph.

This book entitled What Happens When Young Women Say Yes to God is an excellent example of that mentoring by two women that have been there. One; Lysa Terkeurst, a woman that has bridged the gap between glorifying God and showing other women that it truly takes a strong faith to withstand everyday challenges. And two; Hope Terkeurst, a young woman that has begun her journey deep in the throws of mission work to show us all to never fear as long as God has your back you can take on the world if you have to.

This mother and daughter team have joined together to put into action a devotional for those ladies that need some uplifting and encouraging. Because many times those woman that have been called to do extraordinary things for God are in a very lonely, discouraged place. This devotional is based on the Y.E.S. Factor, Y-Your, E-Extraordinary, S-Story. A somewhat unique way to pattern your life, your ministry, and your calling to be exactly what God wanted you to be.

Review:Hunt for the Devil's Dragon (The Imagination Station) by:M. Hering&T. Batson

Adventures in Odyssey Imagination Station Book: #11, Hunt for the Devil's Dragon -

When Beth tries to help Sabra escape, she too is tied up as an offering for the dragon.

Meanwhile, Patrick and a new friend named Hazi join Georgius, a Roman knight who is serving in Africa to keep peace. Georgius decides to find the dragon and kill it. Georgius’s plans go awry when Beth and Sabra beg him not to kill the dragon. The girls know the true secret of Silene—the dragon isn’t its worst enemy.

Wayne Thomas Batson lives in Eldersburg with his beautiful wife of eleven years and his four wonderful young children. Besides dividing his time between family, teaching, and writing, he likes to read, golf, play PS2, travel to the beach, play electric guitar, and create 3D artwork.

My Review:
I have been waiting to get my hands on a book from this series for a good while now. So excited to share this book with you all! If you know anything about the Adventures in Odyssey brand you know it is a great way to teach the children of today good, sound morals. I love how the older Whit is always trying to show the children how you need to have courage and rely on God especially during times of trouble. This book is no different than the rest of the series in that it shows Beth that sometimes the most popular choice probably isn't to stand up for what is right. But never the less we still need to defend "good" in all we do.

In Hunt for the Devil's Dragon Beth is faced with a difficult decision when someone at school is accused of doing something that they both know didn't happen. But Beth doesn't come to her friends rescue and she is feeling pretty bad about it. So Whit takes that opportunity to show Beth and Patrick that even though we are afraid sometimes it doesn't mean we are cowards. He decides to show them a real dragon.

It is an amazing story and one that my boys enjoyed. If you are interested in learning more about this book you can do so here.
