My Review:
Charlotte Rose Hill runs a cozy little tea shop that everyone full enjoys. She enjoys her job greatly and has had a good enjoyable life, that is until one of her employees comes to her that there was a cute guy standing outside of the tea shop. Charlotte's heart starts to  race, could it be that her ex has come back? But everything is not as it seems.

Sam Wilder is quite delighted when he sees Charlotte after all these years, she hasn't changed at all and is just a beautiful. He hasn't come back to be with her which is a pity, he has someone he wants her to meet. The love of his life, his fiancee. He knows Charlotte has to be happy with her since after all she said she would love to do catering for the wedding. But that's not the only thing he has to tell her. His crappy father has asked for her and that just isn't like him. What secret lies behind this old mans eyes?

Anita Higman is an excellent writer that provides depth to all of her characters as well as a strong plot line that is easy to follow. If you are interested in purchasing this book, you can do so at this link.

Review: The Sad Tree and Pronuba by:Christina Steiner

About the Book:
A Lonely Tree and a Special Friend... The desert is a lonely place for Joshua, a tree who has never seen another tree like him. He asks everyone in his environment to help him find a companion...but although the desert loves him, nobody can help. Things change for Joshua one beautiful spring night when a tiny moth comes to visit. This exquisite story about the life-cycle relationship between the Joshua Tree and the Pronuba Moth will delight readers of all ages.

About the Author:
Christina Steiner lives in Southern California. She is the mother of two daughters, who loved illustrated children's books when they were growing up. The Sad Tree and Pronuba was inspired by Christina's visit to the Mojave Desert, where she became fascinated by the Joshua Tree and the desolate environment in which it flourishes.

My Review:
The story of The Sad Tree and Pronuba is such a sweet story of friendship that is perfect for children to see the true value in being kind to others. Joshua was a sad tree because he could never see any others exactly like him and this caused him to be very lonely. Pronuba is a sweet, little moth that helps Joshua because she is aware of the life-cycle relationship and knows that she holds the key to making this tree feel better by pollination. This is a great book to teach children kindness by helping our neighbors and by teaching them a little about life-cycles.

This book is good for all ages and is available for purchase at this link.

Aloha Rose (Quilts of Love #12)

Kai Barnes, however, is determined to protect the people he s come to regard as family. He thinks Laney is nothing more than a gold digger and blocks every move she makes toward her Hawaiian family. As their conflict escalates, it puts at risk the one thing that Kai and Laney both want most a family.

My Review:
Lacey Carrigan has traveled a long way to find her Aunt, now being at the airport no one is there for her to bring her to her Aunt. Lacey rushes through the airport to find a phone. After calling the woman, she is still left alone in the airport. When all of a sudden a mysterious cowboy comes in and takes a look around. She finds him quite good looking but brushes off the idea of him being in search of her. But that's until a boy calls his name drawing his attention. She secretly hopes he sees her but in a way is frightened if he does and that's when he calls her name.

Kai Barnes was kind of forced into the position of picking this woman up. Auntie Teah thought it be best if he was to pick this Lacey person up from the airport. But he didn't think so and he wasn't going to be so nice when he got there. They didn't know who she was and why she was even there and now he's picking her up and taking her to Auntie Teah. When he gets there he doesn't really know who he's looking for until he sees a beautiful woman who seems to be lost and knows that has to be her. So he calls her name and her head draws to attention.

Lacey knew this guy had to be Kai but he wasn't the nicest person. And she could be unruly right back. But still she needed to get to Auntie Teah to talk all this over, even though this guy seems to think she is up to no good. Will he stand in her way?

Review: Four Seasons of Patrick by:Susan Hughes

 Four Seasons of Patrick
About the Book:
It's the start of winter, and Patrick is beginning to feel crowded out of his own family. His father's friend, Linda, and her seven-year-old daughter, Claire, are coming for dinner again. By the time spring arrives, not only is Patrick's father planning to marry Linda, but she and Claire will be coming to live with them at the summer's end. That just won’t do. So Patrick comes up with a big idea. He'll build a tree house where he can stretch out his arms and breathe. But wait. Will his father allow it? Where will he find the perfect tree? Who will give him a hand with the construction? And, most importantly, will his own tree house really be the hideaway he hopes for, especially from the irritating Claire?

As the autumn season arrives, Patrick discovers some surprising answers to these questions – and learns a little about the meaning of family.

About the Author:
Susan Hughes has written over 25 children's books, both fiction and nonfiction. Her books include Off to Class, Case Closed?, Earth to Audrey, Virginia, The Island Horse, and the Wild Paws series. Susan is also an editor and manuscript evaluator. She lives in Toronto, Ontario.

My Review:
Patrick is a little boy still grieving the loss of his mother. He was finally getting use to the idea of it just being a family of three, him, his dad, and his brother Trevor. But soon he finds out something that more than upsets his existence, his dad is going to remarry.  Poor Patrick starts to get a plan together as to avoid this whole notion of Linda and Claire "moving in on his family".

So Patrick and his best friend Harry decide to put Patrick's plan in action and build a tree house. This will be an escape for Patrick when his family is transformed so that he can get some alone time. Soon Patrick realizes that Claire is just as much a victim of circumstance as he is and his way of thinking starts to change.

This book is such a sweet little book about a little boy just trying to see where he fits into it all. The author has done a magnificent job creating a strong plot line and very valid characters.

My Review:
Becoming a single mom is very hard as it is, the world is just not set up to benefit mothers that are struggling to provide for their children. But provide they must, so they surge ahead. Sometimes, more often than not, these strong ladies need some encouragement from other like minded women that have been in those same trenches and have come out the other side. Jennifer Maggio, knows the difficult task of raising a child on your own when the same thing happened to her when she became a single mom at the tender age of 17.

The author has taken on a mission to be of encouragement to these ladies so that they NEVER give up on themselves, their children, or on God. In the book, Peace & the Single Mom, the author has provided 50 daily devotionals of encouragement and inspiration to those moms that desperately need a rock to cling to. Along with thoughtful words are questions to ponder and think about and space for personal reflection. Beautifully written to give single moms the help "UP" they are so hungry for.

Litfuse Review: Stones For Bread by:Christa Parrish

Stones for Bread
About the Book:
What do you do when the gift you thought was bread turns out to be stones?
Liesl McNamara’s Wild Rise is not only a popular bakehouse and café in Vermont, it’s an extension of herself. Liesl is an artisan bread maker, like her mother and grandmother before her. Even though she lost her mother to suicide when she was eleven, she keeps this maternal bond alive as she bakes.
Liesl prides herself on living an uncomplicated, unattached life. But that changes when Seamus walks through the door of Wild Rise, lugging the large bags of whole wheat flour from the local food co-op. He and his daughter Cecelia have recently moved to the country seeking simplicity. Despite her best effort, Liesl becomes attracted to this teddy bear of a man who laughs easily and eats strange sandwich concoctions—on her bread, much to her dismay.
Her simple life is further complicated when a popular cooking show features her bakery. The publicity increases her business and brings several offers from larger businesses, all of which she turns down. But it also brings a completely unexpected phone call, one from a woman claiming to be her half-sister.
Liesl’s sense of identity dissolves as everything about her relationship with her mother—and the bread that held them together—comes into question. Has she been given stones rather than bread? And how can she ever take these crumbs and make them whole again?

About the Author:
Christa Parrish is the award-winning author of three novels, including the 2009 ECPA Fiction Book of the Year Watch Over Me. When she's not writing, she's a homeschool mother of three wonderful children. Married to author and pastor Chris Coppernoll, Christa serves with him as co-leader of their church's youth ministry as well as serving as a facilitator for a divorce recovery ministry. She is now also slightly obsessed with the art of baking bread.

My Review:
Stones For Bread, is a mixture of nice, tasty treats are rolled into one. Leisl McNamara enjoys a life of peaceful solitude as she runs Wild Rise, the town bakery, that just happens to be the best in town. Her mother and grandmother passed down the art of bread baking to Leisl and it shows everyday as the townspeople flock to her bakery daily. Suddenly things start to change for this artisan and she isn't so sure she is willing and ready for the change.

Stones For Bread, has several things in the writing that I have not really seen from other authors. The author has carefully placed a very quirky fiction novel along with in site&history behind bread making along with some recipes thrown in for good measure. Even though this a very challenging read, I enjoyed its down to earth goodness. This book is a sure fire hit!

Review: The Captive Maiden by:Melanie Dickerson

The Captive Maiden (Fairy Tales, #4)
About the Book:
Happily Ever After ...Or Happily Nevermore? Gisela's childhood was filled with laughter and visits from nobles such as the duke and his young son. But since her father's death, each day has been filled with nothing but servitude to her stepmother. So when Gisela learns the duke's son, Valten---the boy she has daydreamed about for years---is throwing a ball in hopes of finding a wife, she vows to find a way to attend, even if it's only for a taste of a life she'll never have.

To her surprise, she catches Valten's eye. Though he is rough around the edges, Gisela finds Valten has completely captured her heart. But other forces are bent on keeping the two from falling further in love, putting Gisela in more danger than she ever imagined.

About the Author:
Melanie Dickerson is the author of The Healer's Apprentice, a Christy Award finalist and winner of the National Reader's Choice Award for Best First Book. Melanie earned a bachelor's degree in special education from the University of Alabama and has been a teacher and a missionary. She lives with her husband and two daughters in Huntsville, Alabama.

My Review:
Gisela has had a crush on the dukes son Valten for a while, looking like a small servant girl she doubts he'll even look her way. But when he invites her to a jousting tournament it seems anything can happen. Thats until her stepmother tells her she isn't going any where, but that doesn't stop her. Arriving at the tournament she is noticed by many men especially Valten. He asks her if he could wear her colors, so romantic. She hopes and prays he is safe during the tournament, but she really wants him to ask her to be his Queen of Beauty and Love. With many of other, richer women want the same thing, will he choose her?

Valten is getting older and knows it's about time to settle down and get married but there is only one girl he's interested in. But will his parents approve? Whats he kidding this girl would never go for him, he wasn't something miss Gisela would look for in a man. She was beautiful, he had many scars and broken features. But when he sees the way Gisella is treated by her Stepmother, he just can't stand by, he needs to make her his so he can take her away. But how? His mother plans a ball, just perfect, the perfect way to get to know her better. That is if she even comes.

Review: The Reason for My Hope:Salvation by:Billy Graham

About the Book:
America’s Evangelist presents his masterwork.
Who would refuse rescue? This is the question Billy Graham asks throughout this book. The answer is sometimes surprising because there are actually people who refuse to be saved, even if they are in a hopeless situation. Why? Each chapter draws the reader in by posing questions for contemplation using relevant illustrations about what the world thinks in contrast to what the Bible says.
As Mr. Graham has expressed for decades, his purpose is to engage the reader in considering his or her life in light of the here and now and the hereafter. Who would refuse rescue from a plane crash, a sinking boat, an automobile fire, or an assassin’s bullet? True accounts are given that cause readers to ask what they think and how they would respond to similar experiences and to ultimately bring them to life’s most important question.
In what could be his final book, Billy Graham presents the core message that has guided his life and calling for more than 70 years. Filled with new stories and timeless truth, Graham once again calls the world back to its spiritual priority as only he can. The book coincides with a massive campaign of the same name by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association that will mobilize millions of people in the United States to invite friends and neighbors into their homes to hear the message of Jesus Christ through customized video and a new message from Mr. Graham.

My Review:
The world renowned evangelist has been in charge of a life's calling and ministry to lead millions to Christ and just when we think we wouldn't hear anymore from this most eloquent speaker, he has stepped forward to remind us one more time, possibly his last. Remind us that through the utter chaos that has enveloped our country as of late that we should not lose focus on what truly matters.

Earlier this month, Mr. Graham spoke to our nation about this very thing in the hopes to turn our eyes heavenward instead of at our feet. God has the power to save us from destruction. God already knows how this all ends. The book contains many stories of some near death stories that were very close calls that had the people involved that death was eminent, but instead they were saved. Mr. Graham encourages us all to seek God and seek Him quickly for the end is near.

Review: A Home for Virginia by:Patricia St. John

A Home for Virginia
About the Book:
When an old miner is left with the job of bringing up the newborn Virginia he doesn't realize that it will change his life forever. As he cleans the dust and cobwebs away for the new arrival, we see that is also what the Holy Spirit does in our lives. He starts a work in our hearts and our lives are changed forever.

About the Author:
Patricia St. John spent 27 years as a dedicated missionary to North Africa - and was also a prolific children's writer. Her books are loved and treasured around the world. Some have been turned into stirring films. Gripping adventures which cover real life issues are her hall-mark.

My Review:
A Home for Virginia, is such a moving story of how the tenderness of one little baby changed a mining community. At the beginning of the story we are introduced briefly to a young girl that was at death's door who had a small baby that she left behind. Because it would be several days before the miners could get the young child to the local church to be cared for by the nuns. but what would the men do in the mean time. Shockingly, old Charlie stepped forward to care for the young baby girl. He was a father to a young girl before she and her mother had left his side.

So Charlie told the men what he needed to care for the child and away he went. He showed her love and attention meanwhile falling in love with the baby, so much so he named her Virginia. It wasn't long before he noticed how filthy his house had become so he set to work cleaning it up. Soon he also realized that Virginia wouldn't have a nice yard to play in, he set to work right away remedying that. Charlie was deeply moved by his second chance at a family that he changed everything to suit this precious baby and to give her home to be proud of.

Corrie ten Boom: Are All of the Watches Safe?
About the Book:
Tells the true story of Corrie Ten Boom and little Dutch watch shop. While she mends watches she is constantly watching out for danger to ensure that her friends in the secret room are safe. Tells the story of God who is the only one who can keep us safe.

About the Author:
Catherine Mackenzie enjoys explaining the gospel to a child and sees it as a challenge and a joy - something to treasure and to look forward to. Catherine's favourite activity is making flapjacks with her nephews & nieces. She loves to collect books & real life heroes and some of these can be seen in her Little Light's series. Watch out for two additions to this series in November 2008. She has written several trailblazer biographies (including Billy Graham) for young people, the ‘Stories from Canterbury Place’ series dealing with difficult issues those children may have to face. Her Recent Board Series 'Sent to Save'(March 2008) follows on from ‘Born to be King’ which was released in July 2006.

My Review:
Corrie ten Boom grew up in Holland and lived in a small watch shop with her family, that her father owned and operated. Everyday she would watch as her father would work on watches and clocks and something about seeing her father do this day after day made her want to do the same as he. She absolutely loved working in the watch shop so much so that every night she would ask her father after he locked up for the night, "are all the watches safe?" And after he assured her they were they would hurry off to dinner.

It wasn't long before even Holland was feeling the threats of Nazi Germany, when the ten Boom family heard enemy war planes overhead. Bombs began to be dropped until long last Holland was defeated and the Nazis took it over. Corrie seen all that was happening to the Jewish people and she decided to help by letting them seek refuge in a secret room in her home. It wasn't long though before the enemy found out and even Corrie was taken prisoner.

She managed to outlive her father and sister but not without coming through something very horrific herself. Corrie believed that the only person that could provide the ultimate safe refuge is God and she continued to share that message until her death.

Review: The Hanging Tree by:Michael Phillip Cash

 The Hanging Tree: A Novella
About the Book:
Enter a world where spirits roam the earth in Michael Phillip Cash's haunting new novella, The Hanging Tree. Set amid the eerie backdrop of Long Island, an area famously steeped in old legend, two young would-be lovers contemplate their future while visits from those who have come before them reveal the lure of fate...and the power of free will.

At seventeen years old, Arielle's relationship with her parents is slowly deteriorating. Angry and defiant, she is at a loss on how to cope with the tumultuous situation in which she finds herself. Arielle's only comfort is Chad, an eighteen-year-old young man who seems to truly understand her struggles. Arielle and Chad meet beneath the low-hanging branches of what the local community has nick-named the "Hanging Tree". An ancient and majestic landmark, it has long been rumored that the tree is haunted by ghosts.

These ghosts span various centuries and vary wildly in age, but each one of them has one thing in common: their deaths are all somehow connected to the tree itself. As Arielle and Chad commiserate over their current situation and their precarious nature of their future, the spectral inhabitants of the Hanging Tree witness their conversation. One by one,the ghosts begin reminiscing about their own lives-and deaths- as they examine the inner demons with which their human forms long struggled. An eerie meditation on the oft-overlooked power of choice, Cash's The Hanging Tree will stay with readers long after they turn out the light.

About the Author:
Michael Phillip Cash 's first book Brood X- A Firsthand Account of the Great Cicada Invasion is presently under consideration for a film adaptation. His well received second novel, Stillwell- A Haunting on Long Island, has stayed on the top of Amazon's "100 Best Seller" in it's genre since its release earlier this year. He is currently working on another ghost story. He lives on Long Island with his wife and children.

 My Review:
Claire knows her grandmother is right. She shouldn't be running around the reverend but he makes her feel like she is only girl in the world. He makes her heart flutter and when she has something special to tell him she is overjoyed. But that may just be the last thing she ever says.

Goodie Bennett sees her granddaughter doing many things that shouldn't be doing, like running around with the Reverend for one. But how can she stop her, she says she is in love but this could be dangerous. Very dangerous. Goodie finds Claire with the reverend one afternoon, but everything is not as it seems.

Arielle feels it's time to bring her relationship to the next level but as soon as she is alone with her boyfriend she quickly changes her mind and apparently her boyfriend doesn't agree. This defiantly isn't like him he is usually sweet and loving, there has to be an explanation, but what?

Peter sits at home steadily checking the clock waiting for his daughter. She still has time to get home but that movie should have already ended. He can't help but call her and when she doesn't answer, he goes to find her. Maybe not in the best light, and when he sees the boy he's done told her to get rid of, it sets him off.

Just a little bit of a note, this book does contain some strong language content but otherwise an interesting book.

Review: The Answers Book for Kids Vol. 5&6 by:Ham/Hodge

Answers Book for Kids Volume 5 Answers Book for Kids Volume 6
About the Books:
Never short of questions, let these titles bring answers to children who may just want to know, or who may be struggling in their walk with Christ. Parents and teachers need not be afraid of the tough questions with these solid apologetics titles in The Answers Book for Kids series.

About the Authors:
Ken Ham is the president/CEO and founder of Answers in Genesis - U.S. and the highly acclaimed Creation Museum. Ken Ham is one of the most in-demand Christian speakers in North America. Ken’s emphasis is on the relevance and authority of the book of Genesis and how compromise on Genesis has opened a dangerous door regarding how the culture and church view biblical authority. His Australian accent, keen sense of humor, captivating stories, and exceptional PowerPoint illustrations have made him one of North America’s most effective Christian communicators.

Bodie Hodge has been a writer, speaker, and researcher for Answers in Genesis since 2003. He writes and speaks on a host of topics including The Fall of Satan and The Tower of Babel. He is passionate about providing biblical answers to believers, seekers, and non-believers.

My Review:
These books and the rest in the series are the best books for children because they answer alot of the questions that children generally ask. The best part about the answers given to any one question is that they are Bible based and I will tell you that, that alone makes my heart glad. We use these books to reinforce our knowledge of the Bible and they are really easy for our children to understand. There is also a small glossary placed in the back of the book to help with definitions.

The Answers Book for Kids Volume 5 consists of 20 Questions from kids on Space and Astronomy including:
  • What day were planets created?
  • Is it possible that there are living things in space?
  • What about the big bang?
The Answers Book for Kids Volume 6 consists of  22 questions from kids on Babel and the Ice Age including:
  • Where was the Tower of Babel built?
  • How many languages came from Babel?
  • Have you ever found a frozen person from the Ice Age?
So as you can see these small books lead to an even bigger testimony that only God can fulfill and they will expand on the Bible teachings you have already instilled in your children or they could be used when there isn't much Bible teaching presented to them. They are geared for ages 5-11.
These books and all the rest in the series are available at this link. New Leaf Publishing Group is the publisher of all the books. The books are very affordable at $5.99 each. If you would like to read more reviews on these books, you can do so at this link.

Review&Giveaway: 1 Girl Nation CD

About the CD:
Landing in the space where One Direction meets TobyMac, 1 Girl Nation is an exciting blend of upbeat pop music, with lyrics that are totally focused on living life for God, even while you’re young. 1GN, as they’ve already been dubbed, stars Carmen, Kayli, Kelsey, Lauryn Taylor and Lindsey, five girls with a passion for telling their fans about Christ through their music. Their first single, “While We’re Young,” can be heard on radio stations across the country and their self-titled debut album is available now!

My Review:
This album geared towards girls is an awesome way to begin your day. 1 Girl Nation is a faith based pop group that are singing their hearts out for God and we reap the benefits. My daughter and I took a rainy day and listened to the whole 10 song CD and was instantly amazed at the catchy tunes. We really liked the group and had never heard of them before getting a chance to review this album.

My daughters favorite song was Love Like Crazy which is a song about living like Christ and showing the same love He did for His people. A very touching song! My favorite is Daddy's Girl, a song that describes me too a tee. Relying on our Daddy and His Faithful hand guiding our every step, it's a song that fits every generation. We predict that this group of talented ladies are AWESOME  and they will definitely rise to the top in no time!

CFBA Review: Critical Reaction by:Todd M. Johnson

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Critical Reaction
Bethany House Publishers (November 19, 2013)
by
Todd M. Johnson

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Todd M. Johnson has practiced as an attorney for over 30 years, specializing as a trial lawyer. Todd's career experience blends with his passion for writing in his novels published through Bethany House.

A graduate of Princeton University and the University of Minnesota Law School, he also taught for two years as an adjunct professor of International Law, and served as a US diplomat in Hong Kong.

The Deposit Slip, Mr. Johnson's first novel, debuted in 2012. Todd's second novel, Critical Reaction, will be released in November 2013.

Todd lives outside Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his wife Cathy and children Ian and Libby.

ABOUT THE BOOK

After decades of turning out plutonium for the arms race, the Hanford Nuclear Facility has long been shuttered, though its deadly legacy cannot be fully contained. The men who guard the facility from sabotage or monitor its buildings for radiation leaks are told the risks are under control. They believe it, until the worst happens: a thunderous explosion in the dead of night.

Two workers, lifer Poppy Martin and new hire Kieran Mullaney, believe themselves lucky to survive the blast. But as the debris is cleared, they discover their safety is not assured. Dead ends and closed doors halt their efforts to discover what really happened--and what radiation may have poisoned them. When stalling and threats force them into the hands of experienced trial lawyer Ryan Hart, they learn that theirs is no ordinary lawsuit. There is something still hidden in the desert of eastern Washington, and someone is willing to go to extreme lengths to make sure it never sees the light of day.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Critical Reaction, go HERE.

My Review:
Kieran Mullaney is a substitute for LB5, he's job isn't the best but that's what he has and he will deal with it no matter the circumstances. He heads for his shift with aching feet, making it to his corridor he sets about his work. Before he knows it the windows start to rattle, he looks around not knowing whats going on. So he starts to run, but the building explodes before he got completely out.

Emily Hart is startled back to reality by her boss. He seems to know she isn't really listening and quickly dismisses her back to her office. She goes to her desk and listens to a message which causes a great shock and that's when she has to call her dad.

Kieran Mullaney is one of the few people that survived the explosion. Which is good, but that means he's been exposed to radiation.  Big uh-oh.  He calls his old friend Emily, the lawyer in training. His lawyer just had to bail on him the moment he needed him most. But at least it seems Emily is in with him all the way to the end. But the end is what they least expected.

Review: Welcome To Our Table by:Shirley&Danae Dobson w/Julie Johnson

 Welcome to Our Table
About the Book:
As the wife of Focus on the Family founder, Dr. James Dobson, Shirley has devoted her life to the ministry and embraced many opportunities to entertain guests. From dignitaries to backdoor neighbors to the family, Shirley has opened her heart and spread the table for all. Danae, James and Shirley's daughter, remembers the gatherings and lovingly recalls what her mother taught her about being kind and extending hospitality.

Now mother and daughter have gathered the stories of those celebrations and get-togethers to inspire others. They've collected time-honored family recipes and dreamed up more than a dozen seasonal parties to share with readers. Award-winning photographer Julie Johnson has artfully photographed each one with special attention to the delicious dishes and lovely table settings.

This beautiful book, as much a family memoir as it is a cookbook and a lesson in blessing others through the art of hospitality, will captivate readers, cooks, and party planners alike.

Shirley Dobson
About the Authors:
Shirley Dobson has served as chair of the National Day of Prayer Task Force since 1991 and is on the board of directors for her husband's ministry, Dr. James Dobson's Family Talk. Mrs. Dobson holds four honorary degrees, is a nationally recognized author and speaker, and is well-known for her contributions to women's concerns, Christian organizations, and the institution of the family.

Author and featured speaker Danae Dobson began her writing career at the age of 12 and has authored 24 books to date. She is a popular speaker at church-related events, conferences, and seminars for women and teens. Danae has been a guest on television shows including The 700 Club and more than one hundred radio broadcasts. Danae lives in Southern California.

Julie Johnson built a reputation for quality and creative innovation as a photographer. Since establishing her business in 2001, her award-winning work has grown to include studio and on-site portraiture, wedding photojournalism, and four published books, Welcome to Our Table, Prayers for My Baby Girl, Prayers for My Baby Boy, and Southern Teatime Pleasures.

My Review:
This beautiful book with its brilliant photography sets the mood at the dinner table year around. The Dobson family has been in some aspect of all of our lives for quite some time now. The book is divided into seasons, holidays and special events and is complete with stories and tips used in the Dobson household.  Shirley Dobson has engrained hospitality and good manners into her co-author and daughter Danae. They have created a masterpiece for families to use for years to come. Its an entertaining book complete with delicious recipes.

My favorite part of the book is the section on a Bible Study get together and the story of how Mrs. Shirley has led many Bible Study groups and what has transpired with many of them. The Dobson family has a knack for spreading God's love&cheer through the preparations she makes for gatherings that she hosts. We could all benefit from kindness like that. If you would like to purchase this book you can at this link.

Review:Mama’s Tales of Kanji – The Turtle’s Shell by:Vincent Eke

eke 10 07 13
About the Book:
The Turtle’s Shell uses wit and a sprinkling of suspense to explore the conflicts of selfish greed versus community sharing. When the land of the animals was plagued by famine a smart turtle, Tobi, stumbles upon a solution. By his cunning and resourcefulness he finds a way to keep the spoils for himself and refused to share with his friends. This led to unfavorable consequences for him when his friends later found out.
“In a way, the book is an exciting, funny, fast paced story of events which led to a tragic result with a happy ending for some of the characters,” Vincent said. “However, embedded in the story are some of life’s fundamental lessons that children need and will learn from the adventure of the main characters.”
About the Author:
The Turtle’s Shell is the first title in Vincent’s first children’s storybook series Mama’s Tales of Kanji. It was inspired by stories he heard as a young child growing up.
Today, when the author is asked why he decided to write this story, his answer was simple: “I felt I had to share this wonderful African folklore tales with today’s children. The exciting stories I heard from my elders as a child growing up have played a huge role in inspiring and challenging me to be my best self. These stories were the first lessons I learned to look for the good in every person or situation. I am having a lot of fun sharing my stories with the children of the world starting with those in my local community.”

My Review:
Mama, a really older lady from the Kanji village, was a women that all the people of this village admired including the children. The children would gather around Mama under the stars eagerly asking for her to tell one of her many stories about the adventures of Tobi the turtle. In the Kanji forest there was a famine and all the animals of the forest got very worried. They didn't understand why the humans outside of the village were not also sharing in the same problem. It was then that the fish eagle, Zingi suggested that they go to the land of the humans and gather food for their families.

Tobi had an encounter with a young girl and he used this encounter and what transpired from it to get food for his family. By getting food and only giving it to his family, Tobi's friends were doing quite poorly by this point. Tobi was soon found out and almost met an unfortunate end. This book will teach our children important life lessons about deception, greediness, and kindness. Also be looking for the authors next book in the series entitled "The Golden Bird".

Review: AIO Whit's End Mealtime Devotions...The Second Helping

Whit's End Mealtime Devotions: The Second Helping
About the Book:
Many families today are on the go so much that it's hard to get everyone around the dinner table long enough to share a meal, let alone hold a meaningful conversation. Parents looking for help with conversation starters and ways to build strong relationships with their children will want to incorporate this devotional into their family's routine.Adventures in Odyssey delivers readings in this second volume of "Whit's End Mealtime Moments" designed to grab a family's interest and get them interacting in lively, often hilarious, conversation. Dealing with both unusual and everyday topics in a creative and fun way, this devotional helps parents engage their children in meaningful conversation and pass on a spiritual heritage to their families.

My Review:
Following along the same lines as the first AIO mealtime devotions book,  AIO Whit's End Mealtime Devotions...The Second Helping is just as interesting and calorie laden as the first time around. The second book in the series takes off where the first left us. For a refresher on the first follow this link.

With each mealtime devotion there is:
A Prayer- to begin our meal and set the right tone
An Appetizer- an activity or thoughts related to the Bible story
Main Course - a summarized Bible story that the devotion focuses on
Table Talk- questions and thoughts related to the story for discussion purposes
Vitamins and Minerals- Bible verse related to story

Mealtime around the table is starting to become a thing of the past. But I know our family indulge every night to teach our children it doesn't have to be that way. I love the aspect of these type of devotion books but I think the favorite thing that I like the most is the prayer that begins each one. We say "blessing" before our meal but sometimes we have a hard time coming up with a prayer so the book gives us alot of good ideas and prayers that help with that situation. God should be an important component in our everyday lives. This book helps us add Him to our mealtime as well.

Review: Kurt, Gert, Jazmine, and Bagel by:Irene Dolnick

About the Book:
BRR! Ouch! Jazmine gasped as she faced life alone and without friends. Enjoy her adventures with Kurt, Gert, and Bagel as they discover friendships together.

About the Author:
Irene Dolnick has four beagles, whose love is the inspiration behind her creativity and who have taught her that dogs are as adventurous as people. Irene lives in El Paso, Texas, a warm climate that allows her to share in the dogs' craziest schemes.

My Review:
A book about dogs and their adventures are sure to delight children of all ages. Kurt, Gert, Jazmine, and Bagel is no different. With the books simple to follow plot and the feelings that the author portrays through the eyes of Jazmine as she meets a new friend Bagel this dogs plight seems to become more like an adventure than something sad. It isn't long before Jazmine and Bagel are off on an amazing cold day adventure that soon makes them forget how much they do or don't have.

The two dogs became fast friends and were all too soon inseparable. But Jazmine is so excited about her new friend she decides to call her other two friends Kurt and Gert to tell them all about it. Jazmine soon began to explain how jealous she was of her two friends and she was afraid she had lost them not only that but was in fear of losing Bagel as well.

This is a darling children's book that also has phonics pronunciations included in the book to make it easier for beginning readers.

Review: Bloodmark by:Aurora Whittet

Bloodmark
About the Book:
Sixteen-year-old werewolf princess Ashling Boru is different from other wolves—she was able to shift to wolf form at birth. Rather than bringing pride to her family, it brings fear, and as a result, she is forced to live in seclusion in Ireland’s countryside. Ashling’s reputation is further blackened when she refuses her betrothed and defies the ancient laws. When her pack’s oldest rivals begin hunting her, she finds herself in the small town of York Harbor, Maine—far from everything she’s ever known.

In Maine, she crosses paths with the dark and rebellious Grey Donavan, and something ignites within her soul. There’s just one problem: Grey is human. Their instant connection turns into a passionate romance, and Ashling begins to believe she can create her own life outside of wolf laws. When she begins to uncover long-buried pack secrets—secrets that threaten to destroy all she holds dear—Ashling’s courage and tenacity are tested. Will she choose her deep and enduring love for Grey, or will she follow Old Mother’s path to her destiny?

About the Author:
Aurora Whittet started out as a wild red-haired child in Minnesota dreaming up stories for her friends to read. Today, she has completed the first of three novels in the Bloodmark Saga. She is a national award-winning graphic designer in her day job. Aurora lives with her husband and son in Minnesota.

My Review:
Ashling was very excited to know she would get to see her father after him being away so long. She gets dressed in one of her finest outfits and goes to where her father had asked her to go. And that's the moment that changed her life. Her father springs the idea of her marrying a twenty year old werewolf. Being only fourteen this is quite frightening, even if she is a werewolf also.

The man seemed nice enough but that's not what angered her. She was angry with her father for basically selling her into marriage to a man she didn't love. She is very grateful when her good friend saves her from going with the man right away, he saved her by four years. She had that long to prove to her father that she can find someone that was the one for her. But how?

The author has done a brilliant job of writing in a very strong plot line with almost completely, believable characters sure to make your skin crawl. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Review: If You Were Me And Lived In Kenya by:Carole P. Roman

About the Book:
Let's travel to Kenya! Number five in this exciting series travels to Africa to learn about the thrilling country of Kenya. This extraordinary book "If You Were Me and Lived in...Kenya- A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World" explores life for children on a new continent. The book touches on many familiar topics such as names, money, games, and food as well the sites and sounds that come with living in Africa. Embraced by educators, parents, and children, the series gently and respectfully introduces the subjects of cultures and customs around the world.

About the Author:
Award winning author and former social studies teacher, Carole P. Roman is delighted to add Kenya to her wonderful series, "If You Were me and Lived in..." Her other series Captain No Beard has won numerous awards and has been recognized by both parents and teachers alike as a successful way to introduce lessons on tolerance, sharing, bullying, and responsibility. She lives on Long Island with her husband and very near her children and grandchildren who fill her life with joy.

My Review:
Whether you are teaching your child all about other cultures or whether you decided on Kenya, in particular, If You Were Me And Lived In Kenya, is a great way to learn more about a country on the other side of the world.  The Kenyan people live a little different life than we do in the United States. The children there have toys that are all handmade usually out of sticks, wire, or maybe some cloth. So children from this country have to be very imaginative to say the least. Money used there is called a shilling and the foods there sound amazing.

The people of Kenya will cook beef or goat over an open fire much like we make barbeque in the U.S.. They would normally eat it with vegetables and flat bread. The children there also play a game called Cricket that involves hitting a ball with a bat across the ground. There are many things to be learned by visiting Kenya through Carole Roman's book that your child would thoroughly enjoy.

Review&Giveaway: The First Christmas Night by:Keith Christopher

The First Christmas Night
About the Book:
A lyrical retelling of the birth of Christ modeled after 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.' Here is a beautiful retelling of the birth of Jesus on that joyous night in Bethlehem so long ago. The poem begins with the arrival of Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem through Christ's birth, the angels' appearance to the shepherds, and the visit by the Wise Men. The simple, yet elegant, verses will appeal to little ones and are accompanied by the rich oil illustrations of Christine Kornacki. Ages 4-8.
About the Author:
About the author: Keith Christopher is a composer, arranger, orchestrator, and educator; and he has served as editor and producer for several major music publishers. In addition to writing and studio producing, Keith is on faculty at the Blair School of Music of Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He lives in Hendersonville, Tennessee, with his wife and two children.

About the illustrator: At a very early age, Christine Kornacki developed a love for painting and bringing stories to life. After receiving a BFA in illustration from the University of Hartford, her dreams of illustrating began to take shape. Christine's rich and emotion-filled paintings are featured in The Sparkle Box, published in 2012 by Ideals Children's Books.

My Review:
With beautiful prose and extraordinary illustrations, The First Christmas Night, is presented in a very touching way. Following along the same lines as the very popular Christmas poem, 'Twas The Night Before Christmas, this version is all about our Savior Jesus and all that the meaning of this season encompasses.

The real reason for Christmas is the birth of our Savior not a man in a red suit. Litfuse Review: Dear Mr. Knightley by:Katherine Reay

 Dear Mr. Knightley
About the Book:
Dear Mr. Knightley is a contemporary epistolary novel with a delightful dash of Jane Austen.

Samantha Moore survived years of darkness in the foster care system by hiding behind her favorite characters in literature, even adopting their very words. Her fictional friends give her an identity, albeit a borrowed one. But most importantly, they protect her from revealing her true self and encountering more pain.

After college, Samantha receives an extraordinary opportunity. The anonymous “Mr. Knightley” offers her a full scholarship to earn her graduate degree at the prestigious Medill School of Journalism. The sole condition is that Sam write to Mr. Knightley regularly to keep him apprised of her progress.

As Sam’s true identity begins to reveal itself through her letters, her heart begins to soften to those around her—a damaged teenager and fellow inhabitant of Grace House, her classmates at Medill, and, most powerfully, successful novelist Alex Powell. But just as Sam finally begins to trust, she learns that Alex has secrets of his own—secrets that, for better or for worse, make it impossible for Sam to hide behind either her characters or her letters.

About the Author:
Katherine Reay has enjoyed a life-long affair with the works of Jane Austen and her contemporaries. After earning degrees in history and marketing from Northwestern University, she worked as a marketer for Proctor & Gamble and Sears before returning to school to earn her MTS. Her works have been published in Focus on the Family and the Upper Room. Katherine currently lives with her husband and three children in Seattle. Dear Mr. Knightley is her first novel.

My Review:
Samantha Moore is given an amazing opportunity, to go to a journalism college and what does she do. Turn it down, to find work. But this is her dream and Father John knows it. Soon Father John has Sam writing back to the man who offered it, asking for forgiveness, to accept her again. All in which the nice man does, but he has one requirement. Sam has to write him while waiting for acceptance and during her schooling, even though he doesn't write her back.

Sam soon confides in Mr. Knightley, the man that gave her this amazing opportunity. He becomes her own little journal, he knows her many ups and downs, and is with her through thick and thin. Even though she can't see him, she knows he there for her. But life at this college isn't all it cracked up to be, well for Sam anyway, she has a few problems fitting in. Before she knows it she has many friends, and is doing great.
