And telling could have serious consequences. Making the right call won t be easy. Neither will the consequences he ll face, both with the guys on the team and with the school. What s the game plan when doing right might means everything else goes very wrong?"

About the Author:

My Review:
Football wasn't just a game to Chase and Tripp, it was their life. And getting on the varsity team at school was their dream, and since achieving that dream they feel unstoppable. But the unthinkable happens and they feel that they may lose their grip on that said dream. All of a sudden Tripp gets hurt and it feels that everything that they have worked so hard for may be disintegrating right in front of them as they hopelessly stand by and watch in amazement.

As a result of the accident that occurred, Tripp finds himself battling headaches and has a real hard time concentrating. He starts failing at school because of this and visits to the doctor prove to be a waste of time because they insist he is fine. The boys usual have a strong bond as friends, but the bond they have seems to be under fire as they fight and argue constantly. Soon everything seems to be in question their friendship, their involvement in school and on the team. This book is geared for middle schoolers and I think the author has properly conveyed what it is like in the world of 8th graders.

My Review:
My son loves this book! And I have to admit, that you will find various members of our family at any given time reading through this book as well. It is a great book filled with selected Bible stories that are sure to enrich and encourage your child. But that's not all, each story is written in picture form---which I think adds to how truly great the book really is.At the beginning of the book the author and illustrator provide you with two pages filled to the brim with the different pictures included in the book and under each picture there is a one word meaning to help us in reading it to them.

The book is designed for beginning readers ages 4-7 that are just learning how to read. The rebus method is used so that it makes it easier for them to read and understand. The book is based on the New International Readers version of the Bible and it is amazing to watch those little eyes explore as they start to read all the Bible stories that they have grown to love and now they can read themselves. A delightful way to help new readers learn even more!

Review: My Happy Pumpkin by:Crystal Bowman

My Happy Pumpkin: God's Love Shining Through Me
About the Book:
Small children will eagerly open this pumpkin-shaped board book to discover the delightful story and colorful illustrations, by artist Claudine Gevry. Using sing-song rhyme, author Crystal Bowman describes a fun fall tradition carving a pumpkin face. But she adds a twist that helps preschoolers grasp the concept of God s life-changing love for them. Just like we scoop out all the slop found inside a pumpkin, God makes us clean on the inside too."

About the Author:
Crystal Bowman loves writing books for kids. Her books come in all shapes and sizes and many of them have become best sellers. Whether her stories are written in playful rhythm and rhyme, or short sentences for beginning readers, she tries to make them so enjoyable that kids will want to read them over and over again. "But the most important part," she says, "is to teach children that God loves them and cares about them very much."

You can find Claudine diving the oceans with Technicolor fish, camel riding in the Sahara, trekking in a jungle populated with wild monkeys, or exploring the African savanna in search of huge elephants. Although adventurous, she sometimes gets scared when coming upon a giant spider or other scary beasts. At that time she heads back to the comfort of her studio, where she draws all the wonderful things she saw and dreams of her next visit to faraway lands.

My Review:
If you are looking for a bright, special, sweet children's book that will teach your young children ages 2-4 the love of Jesus then look for books written by this special lady, Crystal Bowman. I have read and reviewed her books before and I even own a few, my children love them so much. So much so that they are sweetly loved with tattered edges and all. She has a heart for teaching children about God's love and it shows in her writing. If I can only be half the writer she is then I will be utterly amazed.

This book takes the art of carving a pumpkin and compares it to how our Heavenly Father scoops all the yucky, nasty sin out of our lives to rid us of all of that and make us a new creature in Him. Its a poem style read with rhyming prose included. It also has rich, full color illustrations that are breathtakingly beautiful.

Review: Debt-Proof Living by:Mary Hunt

Cover Art
About the Book:
Your fool-proof guide to paying off debt, planning for the future, and breaking free of our debt-loving culture.

About the Author:
Mary Hunt is the award-winning and bestselling author of more than 23 books, as well as a sought-after motivational speaker who helps men and women battle debt. She is founder and publisher of Debt-Proof Living, a highly regarded and popular consumer organization consisting of an interactive website, monthly newsletter and personal finance tools. Hunt's books have sold more than one million copies, and her syndicated daily newspaper column is enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of Everyday Cheapskate readers nationwide. She speaks widely on consumer finance topics and has appeared on shows such as The Today Show, Oprah, Good Morning America, Dr. Phil, Fox and Friends and Focus on the Family. She and her husband live in Southern California.

My Review:
Since 2008, we as a country has been under some heavy jeopardy regarding our debt and how to remain out of it. The book Debt-Proof Living: How To Get Out of Debt&Stay That Way, has been updated and released again to update us on our current status in this country and to hopefully shed some light on how to live debt free in a world that seems debt controlled at best. Mary Hunt had found herself, many years ago, under a mountain of debt and she shares with us how to be debt free and stay that way.

The author states in the book..."we need to see money not as power or prestige but as provision--God's provision for our physical and material needs." It is hard to stay out of debt these days, we have to charge groceries to our credit cards just to feed our kids sometimes---that's just terrible. The author outlines many things to help us get real with our debt situation and she shows us how to get rid of it and stay rid of it, in a manageable way. God doesn't want us to be in debt, its not healthy. You should be covering your credit card debt each month instead of letting it carry over month to month.

The author gives advice on many money situations you may find yourself in such as credit card debt, mortgage debt, student loan debt--she has all your bases covered. The main part of her book that I was interested in was the part on paying your mortgage off early. I decided that I am going to pay some extra on my payment each month to try and get the principal paid off sooner. Great book, Great tips!

Review: Twice A Slave by:Tippit/Willis

 Twice a Slave
About the Book:
Sammy Tippit and Randy Willis tell the raw-boned epic, based on their own ancestors, that gives American history a new face and a fresh voice.

When the son of a Cherokee slave determines to find his purpose and discover his identity, he becomes a slave a second time. This fictional account of the life of Joseph Willis is rooted in early American history and filled with drama: a forbidden romance, faith molded by tragedies, and the courage to forgive. A half-English/half-Cherokee slave changes the course of Louisiana history when a fresh wind blows across his heart.

About the Author:
Sammy Tippit is the author of 13 non-fiction books, which have been translated into more than 20 languages. He has pioneered evangelism in some of the most difficult regions of the world. He's married to Debara "Tex" Tippit, and they have two children and five grandchildren. Tippit's ancestors worked with Joseph Willis to form some of the first Evangelical and Baptist churches in Louisiana.

Randy Willis is the fourth great-grandson of Joseph Willis and his foremost historian. Randy Willis is single and is the father of three sons and four grandchildren.  "Twice a Slave" is dedicated to each of them by name.

My Review:
Agerton Willis fell in love with Ahyoka, they got married and together had Joseph. Seems like a simple, happy, God fearing family, right? Well it would except for the fact that Agerton fell in love with an Indian, a slave Indian. Marriage to a slave or even a person of a different race was illegal but the two of them didn't let that stop them. They found a small church and happily joined into their union. They were truly in love and within one year, their precious Joseph was born.

Joseph Willis can do anything that a Cherokee or a white man could possibly do, he is no different than the next guy. Joseph led a great life, he loved his neighbors and he loved God. As Joseph gets older things in his life start getting harder for him, and the teasing that use to be so easily ignored has now become brutal for him. Before long, the Torys and the Patriots factor into the equation and not only does he have to battle the locals, the war begins to rage around him. As a result Joseph develops a hard outer layer from growing so bitter about how he is treated by others, but his faith grows with each ill word.

This book is a riveting read! I loved every single solitary page of it. It was an amazing story involving a real family with God's threads running through each generation, that I found fascinating! If you would like to purchase this great book, you can do so here.

Review: Seedlings;Fables From The Forest by:C. D. Baker

Seedlings; Fables from the Forest
About the Book:
Fun fables from the forest for readers 4 - 8. Author C.D. Baker invites children to discover five virtues of a happy life through stories told by trees. The power of gratitude, humility, selflessness, kindness, and forgiveness are revealed in memorable tales that children are sure to love...and to remember.

About the Author:
C.D. Baker's first novel, 'A Journey of Souls,' was released in 2000 and re-released in 2004 as 'Crusade of Tears'-- a Christee Award nominee. He has written seven historical novels, two books of spiritual reflections, and one children's book published variously in the U.S., the U.K., Ukraine, and Germany. He has a Master's degree in Theology from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. Baker's specialty is the discovery of the untold story.

Baker writes from his small farm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he raises livestock with an interest in natural/organic methods and a passion for humane treatment.

My Review:
Who knew that seedlings could learn so much from trees? The older and wiser trees seem to have all the answers to life's lessons. But what if the seedlings are surrounded by more seedlings? Then the outcome will be slightly different because they will have to face bullying. And as a result they will become selfish and in turn will not be able or willing to share the things that made them wise.

Seedlings, is a wonderful story filled with amazing stories that can be told generation after generation---timeless. Five stories that will encourage children to be thankful, humble, kind, helpful, and forgiving. Recommended for ages 4-8, children everywhere can learn honorable life lessons, in this inspiring children's book.

Review: The Agben School by:Jo Sparkes

 The Agben School 2
About the Book:
Agben had stood for a thousand years. A mysterious school housing more than students, it was the seat of the powerful Women of Agben, and the center for harnessing the potency of herbs. Few knew all that transpired within the walls.
And now Marra stood at its gate.
Friends and support stripped from her, the fragile life she’d built for herself now lay in tatters. And the source of this evil hunted her like a deer culled from the herd.
The gateway before her was her only hope.
For as the city itself crumbled, all depended not on a prince trying to save his people, nor the valiant men who’d brought them this far.
Everything depended on finding a magic powder in the vaults of Agben itself.
Everything depended on her.

About the Author:

A well-known Century City Producer once said that Jo Sparkes “…writes some of the best dialogue I’ve read.”  Her  body of work includes scripts for Children’s live-action and animated television programs, a direct to video Children’s DVD, commercial work for corporate clients. She won the 2012 Kay Snow award for her screenplay, Frank Retrieval.
She’s written numerous articles for internet sites. As a member of the Pro Football Writer’s Association, she was a contributing writer for the Arizona Sports Fans Network, where she was known for her humorous articles, player interviews and game coverage. Jo was unofficially the first to interview Emmitt Smith when he arrived in Arizona to play for the Cardinals.
She served as an adjunct teacher at the Film School at Scottsdale Community College, and wrote “Feedback  How to Give It  How to Get It” for writers, actors, and other artists.
Her latest book is the fantasy, The Agben School.

My Review:
The amazing city of Agben has sheltered many people for a countless number of years. Now Marra enters the city to start a new life and to show the world what she is made of. As the city starts to slowly fall away, Marra and a few others must ban together to save the city.

Marra must find the secret vault that hides the magic powder. The only problem with this is that they are in hiding, with no easy way out. Many people believe that the prince should help, but he doesn't feel the same way. Marra is willing to help the people of this city, but she can't do it on her own.

This book has many twists and turns, the characters and plot line are strong. The second book of the The Legend of the Gamesmen series was able to hold my attention and is a very good addition to the series.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.

Review: Thirty Days in 1 Corinthians 13 (Bible Study for Busy Mamas) by:Pam Forster

Thirty Days in 1 Corinthians 13 (Bible Study for Busy Mamas)
About the Book:
It’s not easy, getting into the Word when your house is full of little ones who need you twenty-four hours a day—but this study will help!

Here is a simple but deep approach to Bible study, divided into bite-size portions that will leave you encouraged and excited as you discover that you do have time for meaningful Bible study.

By giving you bite-size study assignments, five to ten minutes per day for thirty days, this book will help you make time for a deep and meaningful Bible study of 1 Corinthians 13.

Besides your own five to ten-minute daily study, this book also includes daily ideas for including your children in your Bible study.

My Review:
I love the Busy Mamas series of Bible studies. The author wasn't new to me as I have reviewed one of her other studies in the past---so I jumped at the chance to do it again. She knows exactly what we are going through and the challenges we face as moms. She has put together a very short and simple Bible study on 1 Corinthians 13, it should only take about 15 minutes a day for about 30 days. So real short and sweet because our time is valuable.

As invaluable as are families are, we as mothers are a priceless commodity that can NOT be replaced. And God has never undermined that in His reference to us. We are an integral part of the functions of our families and of course our little adults that we are raising. This Bible story is full of in depth learning based on 1 chapter, which in turn is 13 small verses. It is full of encouragement on our journey and it even includes some assignments for our children to get them involved as well. Teaching our children how to read, understand, and learn the Bible should be at the top of our priorities&this author can help us achieve it!

Review: The Tabernacle by:Timothy C. Dunlap

 The Tabernacle
About the Book:
Most of us desire to know God more intimately, and to become empowered to live more effectively. We’re weary of being overcome by the pressures of our difficult age. We desire to reclaim the powerful days of our conversion, and those moments the Holy Spirit fell upon us – but sadly, we’ve become a nation other than those people in those days.

This book will bring you back into the empowering life God intends you to live out. He wants you to experience His power daily, just like those early years He showered you with spiritual ecstasy.

Our Bibles, though mysterious in many ways, are our present hope! The “Handbook to bible study” reminds us that some books of the Bible are “… difficult to interpret. …baffled many through the centuries… Yet it is the very presence of certain literary features that gives us clues to enable us to decode the book successfully. One must always operate in Bible study with the assumption that God intends the Book to be understood. Somewhere within it must be materials to help with the difficult parts, since it is self-interpreting. …”

“The Tabernacle” is one of those literary features that give us clues to enable us to decode God’s plan for abiding in His presence, and to understand why the Bible teaches empowering dynamics of private praying to Him.

My Review:
The Tabernacle, is a great teaching tool, it dictates a path to a better prayer life. The author not only shows you how it is a command from God but also how to obtain it. While this is a good commentary on interpreting the Bible and how to have a more thorough Bible study, I believe you shouldn't use it as a stand alone study. The author brings about many good points and a thorough understanding of the Bible should be one of our main focuses as a Christian.

While the author has shown a proper amount of research, I found his work to be very cerebral to my understanding. He seemed to be everywhere and difficult to follow. Some may enjoy that type of writing but I didn't. But with all that be said, he did provide many valid points that are worth looking into.

Review: Becoming the Son by:C.D. Baker

Becoming the Son; an Autobiography of Jesus
About the Book:
A first-person, fictional account of the Jesus story, 'Becoming the Son' reveals fresh possibilities of who this God-Man could have been. Carefully researched, it explores clues to neglected areas of Jesus' life that can be found within the biblical and historical records.

An unseen terror stalks Jesus from his childhood until his crucifixion as he stuggles to become who he already was. His parents don't understand how to raise this child of promise, especially against a backdrop of doubt and suspicion. The bewilderment of an emerging identity creates a complex series of encounters that open the eyes of some and turn others away. Truly human, Jesus' grows to face his limitations, his hopes, disappointments, sexual awareness, and the frustrations of the world around him in ways that invite all readers to reconsider the dignity of their own humanity.

My Review:
Let's imagine for a moment that we were taken back in time, back to Jesus' day to actual be around Him and visit with Him. A chance to hear his real thoughts, and not just on the situations listed in the Bible for us to read but many situations He encountered that were not discussed. How would that feel to be a bystander and how would His reactions be? Becoming the Son is Jesus' autobiography, a book that gives a fictional account on a very famous individual. Talking about Jesus and studying Him never gets old to me. He is an awesome example of how we should breathe, live, and walk.

When this book came across my desk to review I was more than a little intrigued about everything it would say about my beloved Saviour. It put Him in an even better perspective, in my mind because it begged me to consider a "what if" proposition. This writing is written from the authors point of view, but it caused me to try and reason outside of the box. This will be a book to challenge you and cause you to think!

CFBA Review: In The Field of Grace by: Tessa Afshar

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
In The Field of Grace
River North; New Edition edition (July 1, 2014)
by
Tessa Afshar

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

TESSA AFSHAR was voted "New Author of the Year" by the Family Fiction sponsored Reader's Choice Award 2011 for her novel Pearl in the Sand. She was born in Iran, and lived there for the first fourteen years of her life. She moved to England where she survived boarding school for girls and fell in love with Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, before moving to the United States permanently. Her conversion to Christianity in her twenties changed the course of her life forever. Tessa holds an MDiv from Yale University where she served as co-chair of the Evangelical Fellowship at the Divinity School. She has spent the last thirteen years in full-time Christian work.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Destitute, grief-stricken, and unwanted by the people of God, Ruth arrives in Israel with nothing to recommend her but Naomi's, love. Her loftiest hope is to provide enough food to save Naomi and herself from starvation.

But God has other plans for her life. While everyone considers Ruth an outcast, she is astounded to find one of the most honored men of Judah showing her favor. Long since a widower and determined to stay that way, Boaz is irresistibly drawn to the foreign woman with the haunted eyes. He tells himself he is only being kind to his Cousin Naomi's chosen daughter when he goes out of his way to protect her from harm, but his heart knows better.

Based on the biblical account of Ruth, In the Field of Grace is the story of a love that ultimately changes the course of Israel's destiny and the future of the whole world.

If you would like to read the first chapter of In The Field of Grace, go HERE.

My Review:
*NOTE* Fictional account based on a true story from the Bible. Its the author's retelling of the story.

Just wanted to clear that up before anyone reading this review would think otherwise especially if you are new to Tessa Afshar's writings. She takes stories from the Bible and she writes a fictional account to go with them. Sometimes she is so great at it that you believe it really happened. I love her books so it is a treat for me when I get to read her material.

Ruth left her harsh family for the love of a Godly man. He loved her dearly and cared for her greatly but all too soon his amazing love was snatched from her grasp. Ruth, left widowed&hungry, she and her grief stricken mother-in-law, leave Moab and head to Judeah. Upon Ruth's arrival, she was treated very unfairly because she was a Moabite woman. She begins to glean wheat for herself and Naomi to eat and she eventually meets Boaz which will be her future husband.

The writing centers around the love of the two of them and you get a first hand look at two people that truly care for each other. But Ruth along with her new husband cared for Naomi as well, even though she wasn't her blood relative. It is a beautiful story of love, sacrifice, and obedience to God.

Review: Seeing Your Face Again by:Jerry S. Eicher

Seeing Your Face Again (Beiler Sisters, #2)
About the Book:
Debbie Watson is a new convert to the Amish faith and still learning the plain ways of the community in Snyder County, Pennsylvania. She has already attracted two suitors: the insecure but lovable farmer, Alvin Knepp, and the brash Paul Wagler who reminds Debbie of the boyfriend she happily left behind in the Englisha world. When Alvin leaves the community for the big city, Debbie is crushed. Though her heart is with Alvin, she considers Paul's continued interest in her. Should she simply give in and marry Paul....or wait to see if Alvin comes home?

Seeing Your Face Again is another Amish fiction treat you'll love. With Jerry Eicher's sales at more than half a million books, his Amish fiction fans continue to wait eagerly for his next heart-felt story, brimming with the authenticity he brings from his own Amish background. Book 2 in The Beiler Sisters series.

About the Author:
Jerry Eicher taught for two terms in Amish and Mennonite schools in Ohio and Illinois. He writes of his experience growing up Amish in his memoir My Amish Childhood. Jerry has been involved in church renewal, preaching, and teaching Bible studies. He lives with his wife, Tina, and their four children in Virginia.

My Review:
Seeing Your Face Again, the second book in The Beiler Sisters series. It is a book I couldn't wait to review. In this addition we find Debbie Watson a recent convert to the Amish faith, is at a proverbial crossroads when the young man that she felt was to be her future love, Alvin leaves their community. In turn, she is left with Paul and while he is more than willing to step up to the plate--she isn't so sure. Debbie grew up as an Englisher, but as a neighbor of an Amish family--she always felt that she belonged there as well. So she is allowed to join their community.

In Seeing Your Face Again, there are several romances that we get a sneak peek into, with Debbie's love triangle being at the center of it all. The author is really great at twisting and turning all of them with a final conclusion being drawn in the end. I love how everything is able to play out and how they all come together. Debbie converts only to have the man that she is in love with to walk away from the faith, now what??? It is an amazing love story built on promise, hope, and a lot of faith.

Review: The Blessings of Friendship Treasury by:Mary Engelbreit

The Blessings of Friendship Treasury by Mary Engelbreit coming in August
About the Book:
The Blessings of Friendship, created by New York Times bestselling author and artist Mary Engelbreit, is a playful and poignant treasury of poetry, Bible verses, and quotes that celebrate the joy of friendship.

About the Author:
Mary Engelbreit grew up studying the illustrations in the vintage storybooks of her mother’s own childhood, and she developed a unique style that harkens back to those simpler times. Mary’s distinctive images have made her a celebrity to millions, who eagerly snap up gift items, calendars, books, fabrics, and more. Mary’s dearest wish has always been to illustrate for children. Her New York Times bestselling The Night Before Christmas is already part of the holiday tradition for families across the country.

My Review:
A sweet, simple treasury of poems and quotes all centered around the gifts and blessings of friendship. Some Bible verses are also included to round out the precious sentiments the author wishes to express. And in Mary Engelbreit fashion, the illustrations are so timeless&endearing, you can't help but smile as you turn each page.

The poem, Make New Friends is my favorite one from the book. Simply because of this passage:
"You have one hand, I have the other. Put them together, we have each other." Its listed as a children's book and is possibly the sweetest, most darling book to read to children. But I didn't want my boys touching it because it was simply too perfect and whimsical to leave in their hands. This book is a perfect coffee table book sure to delight any company, you may have over to your home.

Review: The Flood of Noah:Legends & Lore of Survival by:Hodge/Welch

The Flood of Noah: Legends & Lore of Survival
About the Book:
Cultural accounts of a wicked world, destroyed by a global flood, have been relegated to myth - even the history of Noah's ark revealed in the Bible. Yet, in every corner of the world, you find these legends of a vastly destructive, worldwide flood event. Similarities include: mankind is almost wiped out, some animals are chosen for survival, a craft or other escape mechanism is provided for survival, and water covers everything. Now discover:

*What are these legends, and what intriguing clues do they contain?

*Why do they reveal about their possible common origin?

*Even more great details with this interactive experience of flaps, mini-books, foldouts, and more!

For over a hundred years, scientists have been dismissing the

Bible as a reliable source of information - despite the civilizations

discovered and history revealed that support the history God's Word contains.

About the Authors:
Laura Welch has worked in the Christian book publishing industry for almost 12 years, currently serving as editor-in-chief of New Leaf Publishing Group.
Bodie Hodge has been a speaker, writer, contributor, and researcher for Answers in Genesis since 2003. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) and received a BS and MS in mechanical engineering.

My Review:
Everyone believes they know the story of Noah and the great flood that God descended down among His creation. something that destroyed all of God's children that were misbehaving all but the ones that were abiding by God's word---Noah and his family. Not only do many believers read and know of this mighty act of God, there are many other legends and folk lore throughout history that have referenced this great act of correction.

The Flood of Noah: Legends&Lore of Survival, is full of all kinds of interesting and in-depth information. The authors have researched and collected this information to give you a final synopsis on all things flood-like. Complete with pull outs, fold outs, and many other neat things---this book is a fully functional interactive book. This very large book, but contains very knowledgeable information that to me just proves that the Bible is a true account how anyone ever doubts it is beyond me. And judging by some of the beliefs of other people and religions it seems that they believed in in some for or fashion as well.

This book has 24 pages and is a book that could be used for upper elementary school aged children but could be read and explained to younger elementary students. It is published by Master Books and if you would like to learn more about the book you can go to this link. The price of this very informative book is $14.99.

My boys and I used the book to gain further knowledge on Noah, the Flood and what others aid or believed in concerning this mass event. We were unaware just how far this all expanded and how many generations believed the same. Even though many of them do not believe exactly as Christians do, it is great knowing how much of an influence God has over so many.

If you would like to read more review on this awesome book, you can do so here.

Review: Defending the Line: The David Luiz Story by:Alex Carpenter

Defending the Line: The David Luiz Story
About the Book:
"Everything in life belongs to God. Our purpose has already been mapped out."

David Luiz

One of the rising stars in international soccer, David Luiz has been impressing crowds since he was a boy. But it is his faith, not his fame, that drives him to greater success and keeps him defending the goal. David made his debut in professional soccer as a left fullback when he was just 19. He was then picked up by Portugal s Benfica team and named player of the year for the 2009-2010 season. As a star defender and vice-captain for the Brazilian National team, David shines both on and off the field, inspiring athletes around the world with his incredible soccer skills and his unwavering faith. David currently plays for England s Chelsea Football Club, one of the premier club teams in the world, and he is expected to play for Brazil in the 2014 World Cup."

My Review:
This day in time, I'm sure it is hard to live out your faith--so publicly, at least. Especially when you are a celebrity. Brazilian soccer player, David Luiz, can relate to this better than anyone. David is a world renowned soccer player from Brazil that plays professionally. But while that is very important to him, his faith means so much more.  The book shares the story of this very sweet young man that puts God first, but it also share with us the love of soccer that the people have. It even gives you a little bit of the history of soccer in that country.

David came from meager beginnings, so its very touching to see this young man honor God in everything that he does. His faith is an encouragement to young and old alike. I am glad to see another celebrity living out there faith in front of my children, we need others that are just as courageous as he.

Review: If You Were Me and Lived In...Turkey by:Carole Roman

If You Were Me and Lived In... Turkey: A Child's Introduction to Culture Around the World
About the Book:
Number four in a series of world culture, If You Were Me and Lived in... Turkey, explores cultural differences through a child's understanding. A respectful and lively treatment of the subtle differences of the people from different parts of the globe we share. Join Carole P.Roman as she travels to learn out the people, culture, and customs of the people Turkey.

About the Author:
Former social studies teacher Carole P. Roman's fourth entry in her cultural series, "If You Were Me a Lived in..." takes young readers to Turkey. The series has been embraced by parents, educators, as well as her target audience, children ages 3-8. Her award winning series Captain No Beard, has developed a huge fan base. She lives on Long Island with her husband and near her children and grandchildren.

My Review:
Once again, we are reunited with Carole Roman and her awesome children's series, If You Were Me and Lived In..... In this addition we are transported to Western Asia, to the land of Turkey; and if you live there it is officially called the Republic of Turkey. Turkey is a cool country full of rich culture that provides many tourist attractions and very rich, fulfilling foods&dishes sure to please every palate.

The author describes the food served there in such detail that you can almost taste the Borek and Doner Kebabs. Girls there play with dolls (bebek) and boys enjoy a good game of football (which is like our game of soccer). They also enjoy and celebrate a holiday there called Children's Day which is celebrated every year on April 23rd.

As you can see, Turkey is a very exciting country to learn about, I have only touched on a few of the many facts in the book. If You Were Me And Lived In...Turkey, is a great way for your child to learn about this faraway land. If you would like to purchase this great children's book, you can do so at this link.

Review: Jonah and the Great Big Fish by:Rhonda Gowler Greene

Jonah and the Great Big Fish
About the Book:
God told Jonah to obey,

said, Go to Nineveh this day.

But, stubborn Jonah fled instead.

Didn t do just what God said.

Jonah s disobedience landed him inside a big fish! And there he had time to think and pray.

Children will feel the waves and hear the splash as Jonah sinks down and down and down into the belly of the fish. This story serves as an excellent reminder of how important it is to listen to God."

About the Author:
Rhonda Gowler Greene is the author of over twenty picture books. Her books have received honors such as School Library Journal Best Book, Children’s Book Council Showcase Book, Bank Street College Best Book, and starred reviews. A former elementary school teacher, with a master’s in educational media, Rhonda is a frequent speaker at schools, libraries, and conferences. She lives with her husband, Gary, in a house overflowing with books in West Bloomfield, Michigan. They have four grown children. For more information, visit her on the web at—www.rhondagowlergreene.com

My Review:
Jonah and the Great Big Fish, is a retelling of the same timeless Bible story, many of us were told as children. Jonah was commanded by God to go and tell the people of Ninevah that they need to change their ways and repent and that God cared deeply for each and every one of them. Jonah ran from God and his responsibility and because of this he was swallowed by a whale. Soon thereafter, he prayed and realized what he should do to save these faltering people.

Written in a delightful poem style way, we are once again reunited with the famous Bible story of old. With full color illustrations, it is sure to bring much delight to your children. I read this sweet book to my four year old and he understood it perfectly and really enjoyed the writing & the pictures. It is a very sweet book!

Review: Surviving Henry by:Erin Taylor Young

Surviving Henry: Adventures in Loving a Canine Catastrophe
About the Book:
You don't always know what you're getting into when you bring home a puppy. Enter Henry, a boxer who suffers from Supreme Dictator of the Universe Syndrome. He vandalizes his obedience school, leaps through windows, cheats death at every turn, and generally causes his long-suffering owner Erin Taylor Young to wonder what on earth she did that God would send this dog to derail her life.
Through his laugh-out-loud antics and escapades, Henry will steal readers' hearts. Anyone who has ever owned a dog, especially a canine catastrophe like Henry, will enjoy this lighthearted book about a dog who brings new meaning to the concept of unconditional love.

About the Author:
Erin Taylor Young is a humor writer who works in a library, where she gets to wander among books. She loves football, photography, and hiking in national parks. Erin has written for Today's Christian Woman, Outdoor Guide Magazine, and MidWest Outdoors. She was a finalist in the Phoenix Rattler 2011-2012 writing contest and in the Genesis 2012 contest for her contemporary fiction. She lives in Oklahoma with her well-meaning husband, two polar-opposite sons, and a noncompliant dog. Find out more at www.erintayloryoung.com.

My Review:
Erin Taylor Young and her family decided it was time to get a family dog. One that they could make memories with that would last a lifetime. Well when they finally decided on one, they chose Henry---a wild, crazy, fun loving dog. The author tries her best to "cure" Henry's wild side by sending him to a professional obedience class. While at the class the dog seems to obey the instructor but whatever the instructor has Erin obviously doesn't because she can't Henry to comply at all.

Relating to the story, it resonated with me so much because I too, have a crazy, fun dog that is full of joy on most days. It is hard to embrace because he ways about 75 pounds---but we love him nonetheless. Erin is taught alot about Henry, and she soon learns that she needs him just as much as he needs her. She can definitely do without his daredevil antics but can't ever do without him. This is a beautiful story about "family".

Review: Get To Know Apostle Paul by:Nancy I. Sanders

 Apostle Paul
About the Book:
Apostle Paul part of the Get to Know series is a unique biography about Paul. Focusing on the life and character of this Biblical hero, using color photographs, maps, and other visual resources to tell the whole story, young biography fans will come to learn more about this man of the God, his writings, his impact on the early church, and the role he plays in history.

Featuring a bibliography and scriptural references throughout, this is sure to become a favorite for young readers and for first book reports."

My Review:
Alot of different Bible characters had different names than those that were born to them, and Apostle Paul was no different. He was actually someone who persecuted those that followed Jesus and he felt very justified in doing so. Before his conversion to Christianity his name was Saul but soon after it became Paul. Being the very eloquent, studious person he was---he went on to do many, great things for the church. The Get to Know series gives your child a much more further and in depth learning on some great characters from the Bible that are just as full of sin as we are but most who went on to do great things for God.

This biography geared towards 9-12 year olds is perfect to give them a better understanding and it is an excellent biography to use in order to do a book report from. Full of real, rich photography and very knowledgeable facts sure to enrich the lives of the children who read about him in this series.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Book Look.

Review: Get To Know:King David by:Nancy I. Sanders

 King David
About the Book:
A Shepherd and A King

David lived an adventurous life. He protected his family's sheep from lions and bears. He fought a giant with just a sling and stone. He even spent years hiding from men who were trying to kill him. And eventually, David became a great king. But David was also a man of God. Learn more about this hero from the Bible and his exciting place in history. Discover what it was like to grow up in ancient Israel and then be a king of God's people. King David part of the Get to Know series will teach you everything you need to know about an imperfect young man whom God used to do great things!

My Review:
Many know of the story of a little shepherd boy by the name of David that was able to defend his flock against lions and bears with his sling shot. And I bet if you ask them, they can even tell you the story of that same shepherd boy taking down a man by the name of Goliath with a stone, slung from a sling shot. But for many the story ends there. They aren't aware that he ended up being king when he got older.  Get To Know:King David, is a great biography on David and his life.

This book meant for 9-12 year olds is the perfect book to teach your child even more about individuals from the Bible. This book is not filled with cartoon-like illustrations but actual photographs that lend to the story of his life and makes it that much more vivid.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Book Look.

Review: The Warden and the Wolf King by:Andrew Peterson

The Warden and the Wolf King
About the Book:
Book Four of the Wingfeather Saga

All winter long, people in the Green Hollows have prepared for a final battle with Gnag the Nameless and the Fangs of Dang. Janner, Kalmar, and Leeli—Throne Warden, Wolf King, and Song Maiden of Anniera—are ready and willing to fight alongside the Hollowsfolk, but when the Fangs make the first move and invade Ban Rona, the children are separated. Janner is alone and lost in the hills; Leeli is fighting the Fangs from the rooftops of the city; and Kalmar, who carries a terrible secret, is on a course for the Deeps of Throg. Meanwhile in Skree, Sara Cobbler and Maraly Weaver care for the broken Artham Wingfeather as Fangs muster for battle across the MightyRiver Blapp.

Sea dragons lurk in the waters. Wicked Stranders crawl through the burrows. Ridgerunners and trolls prowl the land. Cloven haunt the forest. Monsters and Fangs and villains lie between the children and their only hope of victory—in the epic conclusion of The Wingfeather Saga.

My Review:
In the Green Hollows, the Hollows Folk prepare for the great, last battle with Gnag the nameless against the Fangs at Dang. Janner, Throne Warden, Wolf King Kalmer, and Leeli the Song Maiden of Anniera are ready to jump in and help whenever needed. But one silent night, the Fangs invade and the friends are separated.

Will tragedy befall the fabulous friends or will love and friendship conquer all? The author is well known for a good well rounded story and this is probably the best so far in this saga. This is also the last book in the saga if you would like to read more about them, you will have to get caught up. The whole series is full of fantasy and adventure and being Christian based is comparable to the Narnia series.

In conjunction with the CSFF Blog Tour, I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

Review: Captured By Love by:Jody Hedlund

Captured by Love (Michigan Brides, #3)
About the Book:
It is 1814 and the British have taken hold of Mackinac Island and its fort, forcing American residents to swear an oath of loyalty to the British crown in order to retain their land. Pierre Durant is a voyageur--a fur trader who left his family home to find freedom and adventure. He's been gone five years and when he returns, his family's farm is at the mercy of the British invaders.
Torn between the life he's grown used to and guilt over leaving his brother and mother, he's drawn back into the loyalist fight against the British--and into a relationship with Angelique Mackenzie, a beautiful local girl who's been befriended by the daughter of the British commander. As tensions mount and the threat of violence increases, both Angelique and Pierre must decide where their loyalties rest, how far they will go to find freedom, and how much they will risk to find love.

About the Author:
Jody Hedlund is the author of Rebellious Heart, Unending Devotion, The Doctor's Lady and The Preacher's Bride, winner of the 2011 Award of Excellence and a finalist for the 2011 Carol Award in First Novel. She received her BA from Taylor University and her MA from the University of Wisconsin, both in social work. Currently she makes her home in Midland, Michigan, with her husband and five busy children. She can be found online at www.jodyhedlund.com.

My Review:
Angelique Mackenzie lives underneath her cruel step fathers rule. She longs for the day that she can be married and swept away from it all. She is betrothed to someone, but he has gone---and even though she wasn't that interested in him, she will do whatever it takes to be rid of her mean step father. Soon though, Pierre returns which is the brother of Jean, her betrothed and it isn't long before Pierre and Angelique start having feelings for one another.

But the war is now their life, the British are invading their island and their simple existence is now threatened. Pierre has to take a stand but Angelique must take one too. They have to figure this thing out together or not only will their lives as they know it will vanish but so will their new found love as well.

The setting of this story seemed all to real. We read about this time only in our history books but the author also made it seem very real to me. She did an excellent job of creating a very strong plot line and very vivid characters!

Review: Under the Heavens Amish Horses Series:Bk 1 by:Thomas Nye

 Under the Heavens
About the Book:
Lenny happened to notice his blurry reflection on the windowpane. He knew it was his image; nevertheless, he couldn't recognize his own face. Those almond-shaped eyes and dark-brown hair belonged to him, yet, inside, he felt disconnected from his past, having never known his own father. Grandpa had insisted, "Leonard, needs to come spend a summer at the home-place ..." A teenage boy, struggling with his identity, reluctantly leaves his modern, city-life behind and enters the slow-paced, mysterious world of the Amish. Grandpa teaches Lenny to farm with draft horses, a tranquil experience that seeps into his soul, changing his perspective. A neighbor girl appears while he is working in the fields, weaving a romance in the fabric of his summer. Lenny discovers that everyday on an Amish farm is an adventure. Thunderstorms rumble above, as a fragile relationship, between an Amish family and their non-Amish visitor, begins to unravel. Daybreak in a cow pasture, plowing with horses, enchanting moonlit buggy rides, and picturesque sunsets are all part of life, Under the Heavens.

My Review:
Teenagers these days don't have it very easy, these days. Partly because they tend to focus on the world but I believe more so because this evil world can get to them and pull them under quicker than they can blink. Under the Heavens is a story about a young teenage boy trying to see where he fits in to this strange often times scary world. So when it is suggested that this young boy by the name of Lenny, go spend the summer with his grandpa---he is sent there. He is sent there for a way to focus and gain perspective and hopefully for his grandpa to teach him what is more important in this life.

This story is a tad different than most Amish stories in the fact that it begins with a young man that is not Amish and he his sent to his Amish grandfathers farm. But soon after arriving in this calm and anything but boring place, love comes around the corner and Lenny sees imaginary hearts floating in the air for this young girl. Grandpa is able to get through to Lenny about the world and how God is at the center of it all. If you would like to purchase this book, you can do so here.

The Amish lead extraordinary lives centered around simplicity and God and I adore that about them!

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Shenandoah Dreams
OakTara Publishers (July 1, 2014)
by
Lisa Belcastro

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Lisa Belcastro lives with her family on Martha’s Vineyard. She loves chocolate, gardening, outdoor activities, cooking, laughing, reading, traveling, a healthy dose of adventure, and her cat Ben, who keeps her company while she spends hours working at the computer.

She was inspired to write Shenandoah Nights, the first book in the Winds of Change trilogy, while chaperoning two Tisbury School summer sails with her daughter, Kayla, aboard the schooner Shenandoah. The weeklong adventure, sans electricity, Game Boys, iPods and modern conveniences, kindled her imagination to dream of an altogether different voyage.

In addition to writing romance novels, Lisa currently pens the cuisine column for Vineyard Style magazine. She has worked as a staff and freelance reporter and photographer for The Chronicle of the Horse and as assistant editor at The Blue Ridge Leader. She has written articles for USA Today, Dressage (London), USA WEEKEND Magazine, The Blue Ridge Leader and Sidelines.

When she’s not at her desk, Lisa is living in paradise, volunteering at her daughter’s school, serving in her church community, planting and weeding her numerous gardens, trying to run a marathon a month, or walking the beach looking for sea glass.

ABOUT THE BOOK

What if she met the man of her dreams...in another century? Tisbury, Massachusetts, Martha s Vineyard. It s just a dream, Melissa Smith whispers as she stares into the intense eyes of a man dressed in Colonial clothes, as though stepping out of an American Revolution movie set. A school chaperone with Holmes Hole Elementary, she d boarded the old schooner Shenandoah for a weeklong educational sail. But they are not visiting Plimoth Plantation, the Boston Tea Party Museum, or the Concord Bridge reenactment. They re sailing the waters around the island of Martha s Vineyard. Yet, when she awakes in Cabin 8, the captain claims to be Isaiah Reed, who sailed the original Shenandoah in the eighteenth century. He cannot possibly be real, Melissa thinks. And traveling back in time is impossible. But days pass, and she s still in 1770. What if Isaiah, who is simply too handsome to be real, is real? What if the fire he ignites in her from barely a touch isn t in her imagination? Can a dream last for weeks on end? If so, how will she find her way home...to the twenty-first century? And can she bear to leave the one man who has captured her heart, when everything in her longs to stay? A Vineyard Romance Romance, history, adventure. Get swept into the exciting Winds of Change series.

My Review:
Time travel isn't possible but if it were, I would prefer to go somewhere throughout history. Maybe to somewhere I had only read about. The Civil War era would be an exciting place, for sure. Not on the actual battlefield but something close to it would work. In Shenandoah Dreams the main character, Melissa gets her chance to travel back in time when she chaperones her class on a educational sail around Martha's vineyard.

Too me it would be terrifying to wake up to see a man standing there in front of me dressed on colonial style clothing. I would keep screaming and screaming until my head popped off. The boat that her and the class get to take on their trip seems best described as "haunted" to me. She thinks she is dreaming when she wakes to realize something just isn't quite right. But with all young ladies in these type of stories there is a love interest and his name is Isaiah. Because the incredibly handsome Isaiah, Melissa finds herself not wanting to leave and go back to her century.

I read a lot of historical romances and seeing the cover it seems a bit misleading, because it doesn't look like what you might expect. At first because of this, I wasn't jumping to read the book. To me the cover can actual make or break if I want to read it or not.But this historical romance will surprise you!

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from CFBA.
